LOL NO! theres plenty of people who have served time for IDs that do not match any badge ever!
One of my weirdest metal detector finds was a genuine FBI collar pin ... the best part is I found it in England, on an old abandoned WW2 airfield, so I assume it's from the 40s.

Some years ago I produced a feature film that had the FBI in the storyline. We had to get approval of the script by the FBI to use, “the FBI” in our film. Their public affairs office was extremely helpful when we were making props, including FBI credentials, documents, folders, how they might store evidence/papers/media, etc., certain aspects of how an agent might do specific things. It was incredibly interesting and extremely cool.

They aren’t QR devices but they may have them for inventory/accountability purposes. They DO have rfid chips you can use as card readers for access controls or other authorizing or limiting credential.
Yup, or NFC. "QR device" is not a thing. It's a visual code for a camera to prompt a browser to open a URL.
NFC readers can read RFID devices (I've done it myself with library books).
I'm not sure about the reverse, if only because RFID readers tend to be coded to be single-purpose and difficult to mess around with.

"Dr Adam Savage, Director of Explosions" is so perfect...
IIRC, in the opening credits for "The X Files," Mulder and Scully's credentials read "Federal Bureau of Justice, Department of Investigations." It was probably one of those things to keep it from being mistaken for the real deal.
I'm more impressed that Adam is now an "official" part of the X-Files FBI than I am of him being a "fake" part of the real FBI haha

For the old IBM electric typewriters there is an "Official" Government & Military "Ball" that was used. They each have a distinct font, that was only used by each. This was an early form of Watermarking. The balls were considered a controlled item and had to be accounted for.

I made my own X Files, well, files. In one I inserted the badges and I needed to laminate the ID with the photo because the laser printing was sticking to the vinyl. The originals were put into the vinyl holders without laminating and some were laminated, mostly the later ones.

You mean NFC/RFID.
QR codes are a visual code used by an optical sensor that will prompt a browser to reach a URL.
NFC/RFIF are small radio devices used to send and receive signals wirelessly. Such as opening remote locks, confirming unique ID, and more.
Obsessing over accuracy is obviously one of the joys of recreating props for a fan, but that the real props don't have the time or funds to bother with that should help ease the pressure for those of us who are okay with "rough enough is good enough".
Was real interesting to hear about the modern security features in actual badges... and makes a lot of sense, given how much power they can convey on an individual, should be as controlled as possible.
At the beginning of watching this, I thought hope he put 314 or PI on one of badges. Low and behold #31415 shows up at 7:21. It's my go to number, lol
Adam, the photo used on all of the id badges looked so much like Kiefer Sutherland. I had never noticed the resemblance before, but now I cannot unsee it! lol
Danial Craig's prop British Passport for use in the James Bond films was manufactured by De La Rue, the secure printing facility in the South of England who at the time held the contract to produce the real British Passport. It therefore contains many of the actual security features that you would find in a real passport.
People are now so used to seeing prop IDs and Credentials, they don’t know what the real thing looks like. When I was with US Customs, and had to show my credentials, some people looked at me like I had two heads. 😮
Back in my days working Convention security, we had a dealer selling items like these who ebdes up getting arrested for selling g IDs too close to the real ones.

When Xfiles came out I made a replica of their badge. as a kid I was worried they a van would show up take me away and ask many questions! so I went sort of Earl Hays too I used Federals Agent Burrell (FAB) the shield logo had a "beetle"" on it. and "MIA" instead of "CIA" (Military Intelligence Agency)
Please Adam, do not bullshit us, we now know the time machine you are working on is in it's finale stages and you will in a short time be going back in time to do something of interest to all of us. I just hope you have enough ID badges to complete your mission.

My first Federal employee ID in the 1980’s did not have my photo. Not a policing agency, though. And we didn’t wear them.

I didn't see the federal agency that everyone is starting to think about this time of year. Although, they are a branch of Treasury, and he had a bunch of Secret Service badges.
When I worked in the Pentagon starting in 1989, they were already using RFID technology for their badges.
Watching this I've just regressed back 40+ years to the 9yr old me.

Okay, help me out. I'm trying to remember a word that essentially refers to a prop that looks like it would be a real object in the world. Like the difference between a device being a big clonky box or making it look like a hand would properly fit around it and fit in a pocket. Something a person would carry every day. Help me out here please.

I need to make reproductions of the Atomic Energy Commission Los Alamos government IDs that everybody wore during the atomic testing. The one that has the crimped over edge metal plate that you just slide the paper ID into and then it goes on a little hanging clip which holds it all together. Humphrey Bogart has one of those made and you see how it's done in the movie Tokyo Joe.
