I used to see Andre when he would make the rounds, he would stop by my restaurant. He could drink like youve never seen, ate 23 lobsters in one sitting and was funny as all get up. RIP to the big man, what a character.
I had the pleasure of seeing both Andre, Bobo and Freddie Blassie (different dates) in 1979 in San Bernardino, CA. I also had the opportunity to shake hands with Andre - wow! I saw Andre twice in person, walking through the crowd absolutely no one even as tall as Andre's shoulders. The size difference of average people and Andre was shocking.
I met him a few times shook his hand once and it made my hand look like a baby hand LOL. Where I grew up in Ohio the wraslers would come there all the time to hold matches in springfield tipp city Dayton we would always go to them all. back in those days they was just like regular folk they hang out with you at the bar after the matches then go on their way to the next gig in the next town. Wraslin in the 1970s was great fun
When I was a kid back in the 1970s, I was watching Big Time Wresting and my dad walked in. He looked at the tv and asked,”Is that Bobo Brazil?” “Yeah! You know who he is?” “I used to watch him when I was your age.” “He’s that old?” I asked inoocently. Needless to say I was on my dad’s sh*twist for a long while.
I saw the Giant in 1980 from just a few feet away at the Cincinnati Gardens and it was amazing how big he was. He grabbed his opponent ( I don't remember who) by his ankle and dangled him upside down like a guy holding a squirrel by the tail. There was no way to fake it , it took massive strength to hold a man up with one arm that way . I'm sure his opponent was at least 200 to 225 lbs . I don't think anyone else could have done it. My brother in law said it was the most impressive feat of strength he'd ever witnessed
Andre the Giant was a incredible force of nature. He could and usually always dwarfed anyone he faced. I got to see him during a wwf show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A few different times actually. Once he fought Hacksaw Jim Duggan and the next he faced Jake the Snake Roberts. I remember looking at this man. His fingers were almost the size of a kids arm. He was just insanely huge! He was unbelievably gentle though. He always worried about his opponents unless they pissed him off. Then WATCH OUT! Andre was/is the biggest draw literally and figuratively in pro wrestling.
@@EdsterIII yeah I thought my brother in law was big at 6'5" and probably 220 lbs until I saw that guy. I remember him putting a foot up on the ring rope just in front of me and his boot sole looked like it was long as my leg. Even his hair was huge ! He looked like a tree that came to life and walked in the building.
Perhaps a man who shared similar natural strength was the legendary basketball player wilt chamberlain who became great friends with the Giant on the film set off Conan, they both took turns on picking up the 260 IIbs Arnold Schwarzenegger with one arm..... What's also interesting about that time was the generous to a fault Giant payed for the meals whenever the three of the went out....Wilt understood that he would hurt his new friend if he refused....so he accepted this situation....Wilt often did the same during his career, supplying tickets or once for a year paying for meals for a beach volleyball team of players he played with....without telling them...letting them think it was the manager of the place who liked volleyball..... Everyone who understands wrestling sees the Giant as the one at the top....everyone who saw Wilt Chamberlain at his peak, never considered anyone was better.....

I used to watch "Studio Wrestling" from Pittsburgh with Bill Cardille back in the 1960s. Bruno Sammartino, Jumping Johnny DeFazio, and Killer Kowalski were all there. Bobo Brazil had his famous Coco Butt, and the match was over when he delivered that one. It was fun to watch. In Pittsburgh, Studio Wrestling came on Saturday night at 7:30pm followed by Chiller Theater. It was great stuff.
Since nobody can say for sure how tall Andre was in his prime, why not just forget about it and leave his legacy alone. Basing his height off somebody else you that don’t really know how tall he was. Its all hear say and BS at this point. Andre is long long gone. There is nobody that is commenting on here that knows anything for fact. He was one of a kind, and a true giant regardless.

The foot stomp as a sound effect for punches still cracks me up. "I can't tell he barely touched him" ROFL!
Hello from Sweden 🇸🇪
Wow, major TV flashback. Used to watch these matches as a kid. Andre was the coolest of all the wrestlers, save the midget wrestlers.
ごっついな。。。やっぱデカイだけでプロレスは魅入られてしまう、格好良い

I used to watch "Studio Wrestling" from Pittsburgh with Bill Cardille back in the 1960s. Bruno Sammartino, Jumping Johnny DeFazio, and Killer Kowalski were all there. Bobo Brazil had his famous Coco Butt, and the match was over when he delivered that one. It was fun to watch. In Pittsburgh, Studio Wrestling came on Saturday night at 7:30pm followed by Chiller Theater. It was great stuff.
Those were the days, when wrestling was real. 😂
Bobo would've been 100 years old this year
Super great memories these men are wrestling icons 😎
Bobo Brazil was very popular in Japan wrestling with a Japanese legend Rikidozan back in 1960's. Every old men and women in Japan know him.
Bo Bo that takes me back a ways. The sheik, ferpo, the bruzer the good ol days
Gotta love it!!!
Great motivation
Since nobody can say for sure how tall Andre was in his prime, why not just forget about it and leave his legacy alone. Basing his height off somebody else you that don’t really know how tall he was. Its all hear say and BS at this point. Andre is long long gone. There is nobody that is commenting on here that knows anything for fact. He was one of a kind, and a true giant regardless.
I saw Bulldog Brown and Gene Kiniski in the 1960's. Great action.
My family ran an auction house in Toledo. Some how my dad got a group of wrestlers together, I think three separate nights. It was the sheik Bobo Brazil flying Fred Curry the great wojo the masked crusader . Us kids help set up the ring and got to play in it . I can’t remember who the other few wrestlers were but it was a good time back in the late 70s
When he threw Andre off the ropes the whole damn ring moved
