  • Tiong Bahru Market is one of the best Hawker Centres in Singapore. It is situated in Tiong Bahru - an area known for cafe culture, delicious food and rich, historical culture. This market opened in 1951 as Seng Poh Road Market. It was named after Singapore's 1st Chinese Municipal Commissioner, Tan Seng Poh. It was built to house a large number of street hawkers who had served the rapidly growing community at Tiong Bahru. The market was renamed as Tiong Bahru Market in 1993.
Tiong Bahru Market was closed and rebuilt in 2006. This new Market and Food Centre is a 2-storey building with a large central courtyard on a triangular site. The 1st floor has a wet market and provision shops. The 2nd floor has 85 food stalls and a seating capacity of 1050. The food here is mostly priced very reasonably ($3.50 to $4).
