John Mayer - Five Long Years

- It is believed that this song is the story of John, had he not attained success in the music business... if he had had to return to his parents' house rejected, after five long years of trying to make it as a musician.
Most of these photos were taken by me at two Boston shows (2008 and 2010); a couple of them were taken by my friends at the same shows. The last photo is JM acknowledging my sign at the band's final exit. - Hudba
Congratulations to everyone who's made it here, now you're a true JM fan

@@christian_uu 100% reserved for heart so heavy
what a scary and sad song. i am so glad john didn't have to give up and that his dreams came true. this world would be that much duller without john's music. breathe a huge sigh of relief that this is just a song and not reality.
This is the sound of almost giving up. Wow.
Basically nothin' has changed
She explained
Were so happy you're home again
You take the winter
Back on your feet
Your bed is bein' made
And your father washed the sheets for you
So we talked a while
About all my wars
The smiles worse than I told you so
She said to wash up and get to bed
I knew the freedom I had learned
I'd learned quickly to forget
this song is just what i fear if i was to take the leap of faith he did to become a musician. i just dont have the balls to do it
3x5 Chords. This song scared the crap out of me yet help me to keep moving forwards. Thanks for posting :D
Ahh, so glad I found this playlist. Been listening to him for hours. I never knew there was this much extra John Mayer around
You launched, JM....you launched. Thank God.
Donna I just looked up "John Mayer 1998" and was glad to find that you were in the top videos!
this sounds like it could be an early version of 83 before the final draft.
Saramore13 or an intro to Message in a Bottle.
Seems that my answers to questions have disappeared. Sorry folks... I really don't know where this was performed. I got this MP3 years and years ago from a friend, who emailed it to me. I really know nothing more about it, other than that it's a wonderful song... one of my personal favorites! I've been trying to upload some of JM's more obscure performances up on YT, because stuff like this really shouldn't be kept to oneself. :D
I would argue this isnt a performance its a recording he did while in berkley or after leaving
@@ansem6167 When John played the Eddie's Attic shows in December of 2005, a producer he had worked with in ATL gave him this tape. Something he recorded in the studio around 98 or 99. He posted it on his MySpace (yes!) at the time with his story this was his ballad of failure. Glad it went the other direction for him.
chorus sounds a bit like message in a bottle by the police or is it just me?
I can hear that. He covered it during his Any Given Thursday special so I'm sure it was an influence of his
Oh yeah, I totally hear it, especially John's acoustic cover of it from "Any Given Thursday"!
