Clay Cook is singing back up with him on this song. Clay is an amazing artist on his own, and now plays with The Zac Brown Band. I met Mayer and Cook at Eddie's Attic when we were playing at an open mic. They were unsigned at the time. Mayer gave me a CDRW with 4 or 5 tracks, including this one. The titles were handwritten in Sharpie on the CD. Man I wish I could find that thing.
When I first downloaded this song about 5 years ago . . . I listened to it nearly every day for a month. What an awesome song and I've always thought that it should've been put on IWO or something. Give Clay Cook some credit too. Finally, I'm going to put up a live solo acoustic version that John did wayyyy back in the day.
This was a track from the original LoFi Masters EP. I actually found the CD in a box recently. The disc itself says "LoFi Masters" in Sharpie, and the tracklist is on a white sticker placed on the plastic CD case..
@Mimimph Clay Cook, the other part of the Lo-Fi Masters. He actually played and created the guitar parts for Victoria, Comfortable, and this one. They recorded this at Berklee in the studios there with Matt Mangano on bass and another student on drums.
I didn't know that! Perhaps he did the same with The Hurt, which they say was used on Friends, Lovers or Nothing. Anyways, I still think both songs deserve their own studio version in its intirety, not just some chord-wise thing.@@JMBelief1
Great.. There is more flow then usual in John, I mean there is more a Big-body in the melody and harmony... John prefer more skinny-body... I don't know if you understand or not =P

I detect a Dave Matthews influence here.......
yes and john mayer admitted that Dave Matthews band influenced him and his music. :) Well, no doubt they kinda' sound alike when they sing. :)
I honestly hear more Jeff Buckley.
LOVING it! Thank you :)
Thank you for posting this! :)

Reminds me of Norwegian Wood by The Beatles

This was the sonic ancestor of "Comfortable", only the latter is stripped down
Reminds me a lot of DMB. I know Dave was a big influence to John.
this is so long before Stevie Jordan, this is even before JJ Johnson...
exactly!
Anyone notice this sounds like the background tune of his solo in Changing?
Another example of a song by John Mayer that was just soo much better live
The opening chords bear a vague similarity to those of "Another Kind of Green" (off the Trio album)
That guitar part is so Guardia Millennial Fair!!
By, John Mayer.
This is from the band, Villanova Junction
wow! this song is really, really great! how isn't it in some of his studio albuns?!! D:
Ricardo Charles (5years later) I think he used this for inspiration for the “Changing” solo background tune
JMBelief1 you mean about 17 years later 😂

Kind of makes me think of DMB.
its bit like "comfortable"
sounds like it
such a tune tho
dude please tell me where do you get all these songs?? any tips? i love old JM songs
thats what i thought
sounds like dave matthewskind of style
in it sounds live dave singing the back vocal
Anyone know if the lyrics are written anywhere? JM always uses so many paradoxical lyrics, similar to the title of this song. It's kind of his M.O..
Was it ever published? Do ya know where I can find it?
This isn't from Eddies at all. This is from the LFM recorded in the Berkely dorms.
Nir Z on the drums!!!!
How much for a copy of that LoFi Master's CD?
any idea which year it was?
To me this song isobviously inspired by Jeff Buckley's ''Last Goodbye''
not jordan!
Reminds me of the Spyro soundtrack
No it's not :) @raphaed77
The chords basic set maybe...
Lol the other guy sounds like Jerry Cantrell from Alice in Chains!
Hear Jordan freak out at the end of the song !:-)
