  • This is super old...back when he was a part of Another Roadside Attraction, or the Lo-Fi Masters. I really don't like this song at all. I'm SOOO glad he didn't follow this style of music! If this is what John sounded like today, I'm afraid I wouldn't listen to him.
The solo is prettttty ridiculous though.

The fact he has gotten to the point he is now is a testament to how much he has improved through hard work - it's hope for anyone who thinks they aren't ever gonna be good enough. Too many people quit too soon because they don't sound as good as their idol (these "pros" have been working at it for years & have tons of professional production support).

Anyone else REALLY like this song? It has an almost mysterious long lost tone to it and it being old and low quality just adds to the sound, his voice sounds a bit different, the songwriting is iffy and overall the song is kinda all over the place but that adds to the appeal; and of course that solo, great!

To be honest, I don't like it. I love it. This version got so much capability, I mean, it wolud be awesome to cover it, cause you can add a lot of "yourself". I like the garage sound of this song, crazy guitar solo, which confirms that Jonh's genius was just being explored, it's so full of youth, so full of possibilities.

Johnny reallly had something to prove when he was younger haha. I Imagine this is what he was like his first semester at berklee, and went home for christmas break and came back with all whole new perspective. The moment he stopped feeling like he had to be the best was when he became listenable. But lets be honest, he was always listenable

I always liked this. It's a solid foundation for a really great R&B something or other. I also always loved the lo-fi solo. The guitar tone is great, and the recording quality is awful, and it all somehow works, in my opinion.

I think what John is going for with each album is for it to be different. Comparing his albums against each other is like saying which piece of art and artist makes is better. It's not really about whats better to him, but what he's trying to express. Check out some of his live interviews. He explains this stuff :)

@ 4TheMus1c & QueenBanana295...I agree, I was a bit underwhelmed by the new CD at first too. It's still my least favorite of his work, but it's growing on me. I like Assassin, Heartbreak Warfare, and Perfectly Lonely...but everything else leaves me a bit flat. The whole album is a little too "mid-tempo" for me...and I miss his guitar work. There's not as much "fire" in this album from what I can tell. It's still good, just not up to his previous attempts.

Perceiver...chill dude. He made ONE pop album....give the dude a break.
Interesting. I can hear some of his future style in this....but it's so experimental sounding. Sounds like he came up with the idea in a rehearsal and is just looping it...trying to work out the kinks and get the idea on tape. I'm glad he learned some restraint on the guitar...because his solo section was WAAAY over the top for this arrangement, in my opinion. Very cool licks, however.
