11 years later... THANK YOU. Spent 20 minutes almost passing out trying to get that last notch in place! Grabbed a metal tube I had laying around and took 2 seconds to get into place. 👏 Thanks!
Thank you! I was able to set up the cot using your suggestions about stretching the fabric. I also sprayed it with water, first, based on a comment by playa2323, AND I used a small hammer handle (with a small piece of cardboard inserted between the handle and the frame) to protect the aluminum frame) as a lever as shown in the video. After the earlier frustration I experienced, including a tiny blood blister from where I caught my finger before I had your tips AND a chat with a Coleman representative (whose only advice was to return the cot to the store and buy one that wasn't so hard to set up!) I felt quite triumphant! I'm leaving it set up for the few days before my camping trip next week so I can continue to stretch it out here in the comfort of home. THANKS!!!
Thank you for this great video. I have a Coleman River Gorge Cot I assembled for over a year now and forgot how to take it down. It is now after midnight and got no help at all from Coleman. Like one writer says, they are a waste of time. I had forgot how to get that end bar off. I remember it was a real pain getting it on for the first time, now I know how it comes off. Thanks again!!!!!
Thanks for the tip on the final segment of the cot assembly, I was kind of stumped on that. You can buy the large screwdriver at Sears, I have one, but I suppose a sturdy tent peg may also work. A woman named Christina told me if you wet the canvas fabric with water it will also help in the process. I am going camping tomorrow for a 6 nighter, I hope the cot will be better than a air mattress.
WARNING NEVER USE A PRY BAR TO ASSEMBLE A COT. it will eventually damage it and cause structural weakness. instead stand the cot up on the end where the unattached side is on the bottom. step on the overlapping pole that you slide into the cot at the edge near the hole, then when your hands on the side frame push while you are stepping on it using the cot itself as a lever and it will lift the 2 apart far enough so that you can move it over the hole and when you let the cot go back, slide right into the hole. No additional tools required and you don't damage your cot with any prying tools.
You should really talk about how the cot should be completely level. Shim the legs with 4x4 thin squares of wood, so the cot is level in all directions. If it is not you take a great chance in bending the side rails joints or legs. Never sit on an unlevel cot. You are only asking to damage it. If this helped you, please give me a thumbs up. Thank you.....
I must be thick as two short planks because I needed this vid to disassemble ours... (wasn't there when it was put up and didn't realise it had detachable sections). Not bright. Thanks for the vid though, helpful for the stupid like me.
I have an odd question.. Does anyone know how to stop the material from stretching so much? Literally sinking while laying on it and touching the cross bars underneath.. The ones we had in the military had small extensions on the bars on each side so it would stretch out the material a tad bit more. Those were always tight and taunt. Not like the one I own now... Any thoughts?

I am in Kenya here can I buy the aluminum cot.
Good explanation of product.😊
Thank you so much . This video helped me fix my problem with my Coleman cot. Their tech support was a waste of time.
Thanks for the tip! Helped me a lot.
Nice to get some assurance that the typical aluminum cot can handle some leverage :) Thanks!
only way to go camping. I have never found a air mattress I truly liked
Very helpfull video! Thanks to taking the time to put togather.

In the army almost seven years at this point and I’ve never seen a cot with all the bars on. We just quit as an entire army
2 years on, can confirm the British Army is also like this 🤣
Where can u buy that massive screw driver!?
Nice video, but I can't believe people wouldn't know the power of leverage, and that they would need help to figure this out.---again nice vid!!

A true cot is much tighter and needs a GP M peg to turn it.
Can i just omit the support bars?

Now it just needs a Thermarest mattress.
