I love the p-38k it's one of the only planes that feels so overpowered but can get so wrecked if you fly it even slightly wrong
It really takes skill to use it effectively. I'm a huge fan of it and I don't regret ever buying it.

Skepter is a very good player, it’s funny how when you get shot down sometimes and look up the player to see they have amazing stats! This happened to me against Zetaris at 10.3... nice analysis tho, definitely a plane that you need a lot of nerves of steel in! One thing that would be cool to see is you in a 1v1 duel with Ripjawz or other top pilots but with both of you narrating what you were thinking during the duel... instead of a one sided narration...

There is no "fight me" scenario there for him. It's either try to do anything and die or run to AF and have at least a chance to do anything later. Which he did actually.

@@DEFYN The AF AAA is there for some reason and not using it looks stupid to me. Honest but stupid. After all the mode is called "realistic". Killed most of the enemies but in the end lost the match because of a guy who used all the tricks available? Cmon, this is the ultimate realism implemented in War Thunder :)

When I get into a situation where I must go to the AF, I generally just leave to save a repair cost and to end the game. It's no fun for anyone.
109s will still try to energy fight this thing at 7km
A lot of 109 pilots and war thunder players in general think they can get away with anything.
Many 109s are just used to fight against yaks, la5s, p51s, f4us, p47s and different british planes. With something out of the ordinary you just go with the usual tactics. Many times it works, sometimes not.

P 47s can wreck them at that Alt yet they still fall for it. The only way they even escape is bad aim or 50 cals.
Martijn Frfr. I drag them upwards of 7k and whoop them up.
Had a moment like the one where the zero was trapped by his base but I was the one stuck. Took out the premium do335 and after a couple kills I made a bad call and took some fire so I had to dive out and repair. an f82e sat above my af for the rest of the match just out of aaa range and diving at me every single time i tried to take off. He was so mad that I wasn't pitching up into him in a brick at 300km/h and using some wild language to try and bait me into commiting into a fight where I wouldnt have ever been capable of getting nose on. Moral of the story, of you really want to fight someone repairing and aware if you, give them a km or 2 to actually take off! Not you defyn you obviously dont make mistakes but for everyone else!

I hated this thing when I got it, as it went very much against my b’n’z playstyle. Then it sorta clicked and now I’m enjoying it. Closest comparable I’ve flown is probably Mig-15bis, since it has nearly the same strenghts and limitations. You just can’t go fast in it.

Asif Talpur It’s balanced at 5.0 since it can kill other 5.0s and be killed by by them without too much difficulty . The A7M2 feels unbalanced to fight even when I fly 5.7s that have much better energy retention. The problem is that it doesn’t stall and can also go very fast before it begins to have any real lock up despite the wing shape in real life causing the A6 and A7 to struggle a bunch at high speeds. I use the I-225 btw, and I’ve fought against many Reppus that literally wouldn’t stall until either the last second or after I’ve already gotten past their guns. They seem to be able to level out a little and then return to the stall climb, which violates all the laws of energy and no other plane can do. Not even the Ki-84 can do that. It can pull up a little after leveling out, but it’ll stall again within about 2 seconds which makes sense. If you have any tips for fighting the Reppu with its wonky, overperforming FM, then please tell me.

What I do is just climb higher than enemies and push them down cause I ain't really a good pilot lol
Something about stall climb that you mentioned, I guess it's because how light the A6 and A7 are, maybe that's why they can speed up quickly and go back to a stall climb

My top plane is the p 38k. At low alt that thing can really dog fight. The roll rate hampers it tho. I have over 2k kills in it.

I feel like this plays almost exactly like a souped up P-38J. I don't have the plane, and I probably won't because it's one of those limited-time premiums (fuck you Gaijin, just let the thing be purchasable normally).
The P-38K actually would be a hot rod version of the P-38J-5-Lo. The two P-38K prototypes were built during the trials of the P-38J in early 1943.
A P-38K would have no boosted ailerons, no dive flaps, but it would have the chin mounted intercoolers. It would have 1875HP F-15 Allison engines and 13'-6" Hamilton Standard hydrostatic high activity paddle props. It had awesome horsepower, and great propellors to harness that power efficiently.
The P-38K was not adopted, Lockheed was not allowed to produce it, despite the Army Materials Command requesting it in June of 1943, and again in May of 1944.
The boosted ailerons and the dive flaps actually did exist when the P-38K prototypes were built and tested. However, those parts were critical, needed for the aircraft destined for combat, so they were not installed on the prototypes. Had the P-38K been produced, it would have had the boosted ailerons, dive flaps, and flat armored glass. It would have entered production in August/September of 1943, and replaced the P-38J series.
Had that happened, the P-38L would like have retained the 1875HP F-15 Allison engines, and gotten the 4 blade version of the propellors from the P-38K.

Love this plane. It's my new favorite US plane, and getting good in this thing takes a shit ton of calculated aggressive flying. Fly it wrong and you get clapped, fly it right, you 3v1 people on the deck dodging them all and still being able to go up. Cracked engines on this thing.
Unrelated question, is that a userskin or can I buy that skin for this plane on the market?

BTW can someone answer me, when you are in a stall trying to energy trap a guy and want to dive fast, what flaps to use? Take off or Landing? Same questions is about turning with planes that don't have combat flaps. Which are better from the two and what is the difference?
When energy trapping someone and you want to turn back onto your target fast use landing flaps if you are at extremely low speed, combat or takeoff at higher speeds. When turn fighting in a plane that doesn’t have combat flaps in all cases except the fw-190 you will only have landing flaps. In that case you can’t use flaps to dogfight at all unless you’re doing extremely low speed maneuvers like stall fighting. If you’re in an fw-190, however use takeoff flaps to dogfight. The difference between takeoff and landing flaps as far as using them in combat is that takeoff flaps allow your plane to turn a little better at higher speeds. Landing flaps allow your plane to turn better and generate more lift during stall maneuvers.

The P-38 can turn with the A6M, at low speeds and with flaps extended. There are a number of documented instances of it. There is an interview of a P-38 pilot who even out-turned a Ki-43 in a turn. The P-38 has gentle stall characteristics allowing it to pull high AoA for the lead for a shot

Same concept... not trying to kill the pursuer, just trying to reset the fight and possibly turn a loss into a win.
Especially when base camping planes fly so high above the spawn point and you have no other option for a fair fight when you come back in.... im more annoyed about spawn campers and I will gladly use the airbase to my advantage when the enemy has an easy and decisive altitude advantage.
I’m not going to declare defeat just because I had to return to the air base to re-arm or fix my plane and I will still leave to go hunt for a mor favorable meal but I’ll use the air field to my advantage well i try to gain altitude.
It’s not fun and I don’t learn anything getting blown out of the sky when i’m low, slow, and can do nothing about it.

I've never been killed by a p38, not even by accident. If you dont fly silly getting baited at high altitude there's nothing they can do. On the other hand the plane is huge and predictable, making it super easy to punish mistakes. Its a free kill, eventually

A plane that relies on others to run out of fuel is insignificant on a match scale. Remember that while you're wasting time with some guy your own team could be getting slaughtered. Defyn said it himself, its best flown with a squad because stuff like that will happen. Not to mention he also said the plane thrives at being passive but you are forced into being aggressive for that exact reason. Its a contraddiction with wings

Screw base campers
People don't fight because they don't want to lose silver. It's hard to come by, it takes forever to grind, and gaijibbles loves throttling repair costs so high the players lose money if they die. And if they can't get out of dying they will at least deny you a win if they can't ram you to deny you the silver and kill count. You want people to play and not exploit? Bitch at gaijin, tell them to lower repair costs. Then you might have an easier time getting footage.

I try to fly away from the airfield AA whenever I can and I got plenty of videos that back this up.
I don't have a problem with extending either unless it's someone that runs to run and never tries to engage anyone.
From a content perspective (which comes secondary to me) camping AA looks horrible and winning a fight that you should've lost is something that is worth showing most of the time.
I don't have a reason to camp a base, I want to win yes. But winning like that is just losing with a reward to me.

i have encountered defyn a few times in AIR RB and in those few matches i have encountered him in.....not once did he intentionally use base aa as support. yes it might be annoying to listen to a YT complain about base camping but due keep in mind that defyn is a very long time veteran of the game who would easily get annoyed by those who refuse to fight but instead just run back to base.
btw defyn great vid as always my dude keep it up(also btw i have the p38k myself and despite playing only a handful of games in it i absolutely love it...just wish allied teams at that br arent such trash)
You have allot of advantages over newer players. You almost always have a known factor in squad. You know almost every capability of almost every plane. Even if you do not know squad mate it is somewhat likely they know and respect who you are and so are willing to do things for you they would not normally do to some unknown player.
Complaining about lingering near AAA in your position is pretty pathetic really. Unless you were one of the first people on to play this game you at one point did some "yes in your own way" abuse of AAA positions just to get to where you are today. I like all your videos but the complaint about the not so good players camping near airfield is akin to a rich person complaining about a poor person doing the exact same thing they did to get rich.
this isnt a dogfight nor an energy fight youre just trying to bnz him, failing and then repeating this is the scummiest gameplay
