      When I break my fast after 16-18 hours the food tastes great! Problem is that I’m getting heartburn

      I am 48 years old been a type 2 diebetic for bout 10 years now been overweight for just a little longer than that 5.11 height have weighed as much as 325 lbs the last 6 years been 300 to 290. Ok so my blood work came back like i knew it would Cholesterol High, Tryglicerides over 500 and A1c 12... Now in a nutshell April 1st i weighed 289 now April 25th I'm 269 my fasting glucose went from 300's on the first to 78 this morning my energy level is off the roof... Here's what I did, ive been doing the 16/8 sometimes 18/6 and eating nutritious minding my carbs, pretty much exactly what Dr is talking bout in this video and I'm on my way too reverse this disease I'm gonna do this just had to share this is real and it work like a miracle

    I have recently started eating just once a day at noon and skipping altogether on Wednesday. It seems a bit extreme but so is my 5’7 350 lb frame. Wish me good luck. Feeling good so far.

    Saved my life. reversed my type 2 diabetes. Was the first doctor I listened to. I Was 315 lbs. Addicted to sugar, eating 4 ice cream sandwiches at a time..etc. Was dying, with type 2 diabetes out of control. Now Keto, intermitintent fast ing everyday (18-6) and 1 day a week 24 hour fasting. Now 250 lbs. (6'4") No diabetes and feel fantastic. been 10 months. I owe Dr. Fung my life.

      @@andreigavrilovutube I made a decision for no sugar. After 3 days it was a breeze but the most important thing is what I replaced all the bad food with. For a while it was Free range pasture raised eggs and canned asparagus. Later Avacados were added and pecans. Pasta and carbohydrates were replaced with meat and leafy green vegetables. Full keto.Oh and I only drink water...ever. It is really not that hard to quit sugar. Or cutting way back on carbs. You feel so great without all the vegetable oil, and breads...its easy really. Tryi t for 1 week. And the thing about Keto is fat is much more satiating which allows you to do 16/8 intermitent fasting.
      When I ate breads and donughts and sugar I still was always hungry.
      Oh and 1 thing. dont think you can replace sugar with artificial sweetners. This will spike your insulin and the #1 key for me was keeping my insulin levels as low as possible

      @@truthorpropaganda9001 Sounds like I'm half way there - 1 year ago I stopped eating all processed SUGAR - chocolate, honey, ice cream... that was difficult, but I quickly felt huge health improvements! The problem is, I still kept eating a lot of Fruits and Carbs... So now it's time for level 2 and to cut down on the Carbs - will be a challenge but glad others went through it))

    When I feel hunger during a fast, I see it as my body switching to my fat storage and do my best not to disrupt that transition. Pushing my fast even longer.

    Also lets not forget that intermittent fasting is not just about losing weight and worrying about calorie intake. But the big part of fasting is to reverse insulin resistance in the cells

      Its also about healing what is bad in your body..kidneys, fatty liver, arthritis etc.... not all of us need to lose weight but have health issues. 😢

      Exactly!! I have been OMAD for over 5 years not to specifically lose weight. I am much more interested in the autophagy and disease prevention benefits and having better skin, better cardiovascular health, improved mood, and clearer thinking. More defined muscles and greater strength are just added benefits!

    Jason Fung should be awarded the Nobel Prize of « much good done to the rest of humanity ». There isn’t much financial gain to get for him from what he explains , but what he brings to humanity is priceless. And will be measured at the end of his life.

    I was 230 lbs on sept- oct 2021, Im 4’11” and 55 y/o post menopausal female. I began intermittent fasting eating within a 4 hour period ( 1 pm- 4 pm )and restraint my caloric intake . This really works!! Now on February 2022, I am 186 lbs!! Don’t have sweets addiction anymore and feeling energized again, I was not under 200 lbs since high school!! Love this!!
    Sept 1 2022. I keep loosing weight, feeling great so far, Im now 172 lbs!! Thanks for so nice comments ☺️
    Update october 2022: I’m niw on 172 lbs, some issues with hair loss, but consulting with MD. Otherwise I feel very good thanks for all the encouragement.

      I'm very happy for you! It looks like you're doing great. I do have a question though, how hard is it to consistently maintain that window? I don't get home from my office until about 530, and then after maybe some exercise and unwinding I am pretty hungry for dinner. In your time slot, you're already done eating for the day. Also, how do you manage that socially as when you go out with friends?

      Tbh I was doing this kind of customized, I mean, I had a span of 4-6 hours to eat and program it according my work schedule u could do that.I work 7-4 so I get to work, drink only coffee at 8, then I continue working and eat the principal meal or high caloric meal at 12 or 1 pm, then When I get home I go to walk or do simple exercise drink plenty water and eat something light or drink a cup if tea at night. I gave noticed the sugar cravings I had just disappear and without noticed I begin to loose weight. I was so surprised. Adapt this to ur time and lifestyle and u would surely see results. Hope u success!!!
      Socially I don’t have issues cause if I had to eat outside I just replace one of my meals and don’t overeat.

    I had recently completed my first 12 day water fast. I had utilized all the foundational information and some from other sources. Due to some health issues specific to myself I struggled a bit but it ended great. Some info:
    Personal
    -49 Years old
    -Hispanic
    -10 year Military retiree (for context later). 172 lbs out if boot and 193 at retirement.
    -232 lbs
    -Consistent BP 132/94
    Health issues
    -Hypertension (taking meds)
    -Gall Bladder removal
    -Knee pain
    -Early sighs of diabetes
    Daily action
    -2 liters of water (1 liter smart water in the morning and afternoon and 1 liter in the evening)
    -12oz of water /w 1 tsp of salt each morning
    -1 probiotic capsule
    -1 multivitamin
    -1 prescribed potassium chloride pill (I was low to to the diuretic effects of my BP meds)
    -BP meds
    Progression
    Day 1-3: Hunger which started tapering off by day 3 but the mind games with myself to quit were frequent.
    -Day 4-5. This is we’re I stopped previously. My gall bladder removal made it so that I had diarrhea while my digestive system emptied itself. Couple that with my BP meds making it a struggle to retain what little salt I tried to keep in my system I got worried. However this time I pushed past it and by the time I was thoroughly ‘empty’ my bile production eventually stopped as did the diarrhea.
    - Day 6 and beyond: From this point I experienced all the normal effects. Chills when only a month ago I felt fine in the same temperature. Minor issues getting 6-7 hours of sleep (previous norm) a night with now 5 being the new norm cause I just can’t stay asleep. Feeling wiped after any decent exertion. Case in point I could 3 sets if 100 calf raises and now I struggled to do even 60 total. However each day I say the improvements which only we as individuals notices as we see ourselves in the bathroom mirror every morning.
    End results
    -206 lbs (26 lbs total loss)
    -BP readings were a consistent 107-110/75-79. This was the biggest wow for me. I’m used to losing weight with new work out reqs and such but I hypertension runs on both sides of my family and I was told having to manage it was my new norm given my age.
    -2 inches off my my size 40 waist
    -Dark skin at the base of my neck disappeared
    -Smaller skin tags are the base of my neck also vanished although a few still remain
    -Face is more angular (A haven’t seen that in almost 5 years.
    End thoughts
    The biggest struggle was the unknown. We are all used to being told how things will pan out everyday for many things and even experienced them ourselves from time to time. But to be able to ‘experience’ it drives home the realize of it. I am now confident that I can do this and I will be doing it again a month from now. Information is our best tool for getting started and tailoring a plan specific to our personal situation is the next best thing.

      To help to empty sooner, and completely; also towards supporting the liver's detoxification function; consider adding coffee enemas (for example in the beginning, middle and end of the fast)? For more info on this: Tony Grandov has an excellent YT presentation about how he had used CE to alleviate his chronic constipation.

    I'm from India. I was 106 kgs & lazy. I'm 6.0 feet tall. After watching your videos on weight reduction & exercise, I've reduced weight to exact 81.0 kgs in 5 months. I walk 5 kms daily on weekdays, 10 kms daily on weekends in a park near my house. My eat in 18-6 window. I used to think its rubbish, how will survive without food. Now i feel, how stupid i was. Hehehe. I love your videos & watch them, like them whenever I get time from my work. The credit to my weight loss goes to you. You're awesome !!

      ​@@gouravsahnianand8313 After watching dozens of videos & going through lot of descriptions I made my own customized diet. I'll be honest, it was a personal diet. You can't eat everything nutritious & still lose weight. So, i focused on proteins for 15 days, then healthy fats for 15 days, then walking for 5kms daily. When i gained confidence, I increased my fasting period. I'll give you my diet, Breakfast - 1/2 bowl Bottle gourd, Ridge gourd, Apple Gourd, sliced onions & cucumbers mixed salad, 4 spoonfuls of Coriander Vegetable chutney, 1 chapati. That's my breakfast at 12pm. Dinner - same as breakfast at 6pm. Then Keto diet from 6pm to 12pm the next day. I walk 10kms evening 7pm to 9pm with google fit to calculate my brisk walking. 500 metres lap of neighbourhood park in 5 minutes & 30 seconds. i.e. 11mins per km is my speed. In 3 months, I lost 15 kgs...In 4th & 5th month I filled my diet with 1 bowl of pulses or kidney beans daily in breakfast to compensate the proteins in blood. Lastly, 4 litres of water was compulsory in summers & 3 litres of lukewarm water in winters is a must. I'm trying to reach my personal goal of 75 kgs. That's 31 kgs down from 106 kgs of my peak weight. Hope it helps you. I'll suggest you to make a diet according to your own doctor & your determination. I was 100% determined to make a difference in my life. And There are 100's of online videos. But listen patiently for full 45mins or 60mins of Jason Fung, even if it sounds obvious & related to previous videos. I owe my weightloss journey to him. And keep trying to fill nutrients. Hope it helps you. Do make your own chart. Don't copy mine or you'll hurt yourself. Okay.

      @@gouravsahnianand8313 vegetables also have carbohydrates but it’s a better type of carb because it’s mixed with fiber and vitamins.
      Eat low refined carb. Eat only Roti or rice , not both. Eat double portion of vegetable and dhal and half portion of Roti / rice. This will still give you carbs but allow you feel full because of the fiber .

      @@gouravsahnianand8313 yes supplements are a must. VitD, magnesium, potassium, iron ( especially if you are veg) . Protein is important. You can get from nuts, seeds and fats like ghee. Avoid all fruits unless it’s low glycemic. Fruits are a big source of hidden sugars. All sugars are bad for you including “natural” sugars.

    I started fasting 14 days ago. I used to snack a lot and now I don't even think about it. I did a protein based diet last year and it took me nearly a year to lose 5 kilos. I'm a 68 year old woman and have now lost 2 kilos in 2 weeks........... I'm not even being very strict and even had some wine at the weekend but all the snacking has stopped. Normally when I sweep the patio I struggle and feel as if I have no strength. This morning I had no problems at all. Fasting is wonderful and I recommend it.

      Same here. Doing keto and fasting for two years now.
      I do, generally, 72 hrs of fasting a week, eat lots of veggies, healthy fat, not much proteins, and do HIIT 5 times a week. I lost the 1.5 year about 12 kg but nothing after that.
      My weight is stabilized now and even if I want to lose more I can't (?)
      Happy anyway. Lots of energy

      @@georgetaladriz1911 I've been ketovore since April 2021 with OMAD and some weeks EOD 40:8, mostly eating beef, bacon, eggs, cheese and butter and the occasional salad or veg stir fry. Nothing more strenuous than walking an hour a day. I've shed 40 kg so far with another 40 kg still to go. I expect the last 40 kg to take at least twice as long before I hit a stable weight.

      Yes, especially since these "studies" and trials are intentionally designed to make healthy things like IF or keto look bad. Can't have people getting too healthy - then they wouldn't need mountains of medication! It's disgusting. Fung here is a hero.

      I don't trust the majority of MDs, certainly not the VA, which is my only option. MANY of them have NO knowledge of nutrition...EVEN the nutritionists! I've been to several nutritionists over the years. I've never seen one that wasn't overweight or obese. They must have been following what their school taught them!

    Recently started 18/6. It fits family schedule and I can stick to it. I feel fantastic. At least half of each meal is vegetables, sweets are fresh fruit. I can't believe how sugar cravings have disappeared.

      Just have to watch the amount of fruit you eat. Hemoglobin A1c does not measure fructose glycating the blood cells. It only measures glucose damage.

      @@marynehra502 I was doing that until I found out how high dark chocolate is in oxalates, lead, and cadmium. Oxalates were causing my fibromyalgia and bladder pain issues. I don't know how much a few squares raises insulin, but for me, the dopamine hit makes me crave more than that. Darn!

    I've been practicing IF for almost a year now (19:5) and believe me....over time of doing this, gorging when you break your fast is so uncomfortable! Also, my palate has become more sensitive to processed food and I actually feel sick if I eat anything that's not fresh. What I do now is I eat the types of food that my grandparents and great-grandparents recognize (fresh, homemade Filipino/Asian dishes). Since doing that, my waist line has gone from 38 (thanks COVID lockdowns!) to 34 and my energy levels have actually allowed me to go back to the gym and get back into weightlifting again. Fasting is something that our ancestors did before food became too convenient. I see it as going back to basics and letting our bodies do what it does naturally.

      Paul, this is exactly my experience with IF, and eating everything organic and freshly cooked. Healthy colorful veg, berries and good qualtiy protein in 110-120g per day. I make my own cakes, bread, lemon curd and ice cream - all of which can be frozen in single portions and used sparingly. Lots of seeds and nuts and daily 85% cocoa chocolate. Filtered water, curcumin and Vit D with K2 I find my appetite is reduced and when I have eaten 'special treats' on holidays such as Christmas, I feel really icky afterwards. I also have good energy for late '60's and am constantly on the go, enjoying life. I just wish I had learned about this years ago! People should have this knowledge!

    I try to do OMAD most of the time but sometimes do 20:4.....and yes I used to make that mistake and even now if I over indulge at a meal I feel SO sick with a stomach ache that it is just not worth it. You really do get used to it and find your sweet spot. I am down 51 lbs so far with about another 50 lbs to go.....2022 will be my year :)...thanks for this info.....

      @@eileenbaird6617 I had been eating 1 meal and recently changed to 2 to see if it helped or hindered my weight loss. Some job stress was also bringing on hunger that I really hadn't had before so I thought adding the second meal would help. I think I will go back to the 1 meal or reduce the size of the meals when I eat 2. It is kind of a work in progress but I was doing well with 1 meal and probably should have left it alone.

      ​@@Whitening-travelTo answer this, most of us do some form of intermittent fasting (I do 18:6) and just as importantly, remove most added sugars (and all sugared beverages, just drink water, but especially during fasting phase as it breaks your fast). Also eat low carbs, especially processed carbs as vegetables are great, and healthy fats. Generally, if you aren't eating a lot of carbs with your saturated fats then saturated fats are fine. My trick to raise my fat intake as too much bacon fat, steak fat etc isn't my style, is to cook a lean fat like chicken, then add a fat, such as cutting a groove in it and stuffing it with feta cheese, then adding olive oil, drizzling it over the chicken after it is cooked.
      To summarize: remove most added sugar, drastically lower processed carbs (this definitely includes bread, unfortunately, should probably just ditch the bread altogether) and raise fat and protein intake to feel full by triggering the, "I'm full," hormones.

    9 months ago started 16-8 intermittent fasting and reduced carbs, not super strict but eat more whole foods and more proteins. Also, walk at least 30 min a day. 30 lbs gone. It’s like magic! Thanks so much for your wisdom and sharing this knowledge.

My body was burning muscle for energy. But she also has me doing fasting even though my protein/carbs/calories have been increased. Fasting and carb cycling are tactics for weight/fat loss she uses as well. Im still in the detox phase so i have not experienced the fat loss yet, but trying to play the long game. .

    Thank you so much! This information really helped me a lot. I was doing OMAD and just started Alternate Day Fasting and this is my second fasting day. Yesterday was my first "eat" day and I had to force myself to eat. I tried to eat extra since that's what I have kept watching people say to do. Now I know I'll be just fine not overeating. It was crazy when my 40 hour fast ended I didn't crave all the foods I craved on my fasting day. I couldn't believe my sweet craving was gone! Now that is amazing!!       @Class V A Maths 20:4 fasting, I eat once a day. I end my fasting at 6 pm. I eat healthy foods, avoid oily foods, and sugary and have fewer carbs. I do a lot of hiit workout. After I shed all those fats , I started to add weights to my workout to tone.

    I just eat twice a day between noon and 6pm give or take a half hour. I drink coffee in the morning and water. I eat some desert occasionally but rarely and very little sugar intake at all.
    I am 5'3 and since Oct 2021 I have shed almost 60 pounds, from 215 to under 160. I have 10 to 15 pounds to go so I have very little body fat. I just turned 50 last November and this sure helps. It is simple when God is with you. God can be with you if you work with God alone who can take all cravings out of you. Then we can make this permanent and easy. With God there is no fighting the devil, God just makes it FLEE.

      Recently I've seen more and more doctors and experts saying that what we eat, when we eat, and how we eat, affects our mental health big time. I think that the mental health is going to be the next focus for future researchers.
      Talking from experience I've noticed a huge difference in my mental health (positive difference), and I'm sure the big part of it is because of the type of food I eat and intermittent fasting I do.

    You have changed my life. You have been gifted conveying the massage. I understood what you said and it worked. I was 5,7,, with 185lbs, diabetic type 2, with blood pressure and cholesterol. I started IF , 16_8 on Oct 23 , 2021, then I put 24 hrs, 6 days in a stretch, only to come back to 18_6 to have peace at home and family. They are all against it. Today I saw 162lbs, lost 23 lbs, diabetic free with no medicine for last 3 weeks. My last blood test show Ketones +2 . Thank you for your contribution. I appreciate it.

    I know this is an older video but for anyone just starting this is great information, I have been on and off keto for a couple years now and it took some time to be able to fast comfortably. My advice is listening to these people like Jason Ken berry Baker………. And then be patient with the process, your understanding of the balance of eating and fasting and what works for you to be sustainable for you………. After two years I have gone full carnivore and the fasting feeding cycle for me is very easy now……it took time to get there, Jason has so much helpful information as do others mentioned above. Good luck everyone it took time for you to get unhealthy so it also will take time to get healthy, you only get out of it what your willing to put into it. Be patient .

    I love how Dr. Fung is so direct and straightforward. For person like me I really need to hear exactly what I should be doing and Dr. Fung really tells me that. Thank you for being so blunt in a really positive way. I definitely learnt a lot from this video.
    Big take away for me that even if I fast for 20 hours it does not mean that I can eat “whatever I want” in my four hour window.

      Makes sense but the moment you deny yourself of something you’ll start craving it which is why people won’t stick to it. Add exercise to your fasting so you create a caloric deficit and still get your sweet fix …..just don’t go mad.

    Something that may help others here is I've started using a divided plate. 8 1/2 inches, by Corelle. The large divided area is for vegetables, and the smaller divided areas are for protein and EITHER a starch or a fruit.
    Once I've finished that plate, I'm done eating for the day, period.
    That means I don't have to count calories, only measure the food into their 3 correct spaces.
    If I eat soup, the bowl sits in one of the divisions, and I don't get to put anything else in that spot. If it is a bean soup or a cheese soup, it fits in the protein spot. If it is a noodle soup it fits in the starch/fruit spot.
    Yes, sometimes I have a sandwich. It gets cut in half and 1 half goes in the protein spot and 1 half goes into the starch/fruit spot.
    Yes, sometimes I have an all-in-one meal, like a veggie and bean lasagna, lol. I just do the best I can, and don't eat it often, HAHAHA!
    Anyway, that's how I handle the calories question.
    If I am going someplace where cake is expected (wedding, birthday) then I eat a salad before I go, and allow myself a slice of cake, but no ice cream. Or I allow myself a scoop of ice cream but no cake.
    Also, I can't always eat at the same time every day. so my fasting times might vary. It can't always be 23 hours exactly.
    The fast was made for man, not man for the fast. I keep myself to that 8 1/2 plate ALMOST every day.

    Great video! Great explanation! I'm 67 years old and have not been able to lose weight on other diets. Fasting has worked for me! I've lost 13 pounds over the last 3 months. Fasting really works! My overall appetite has gone down as well!

    I've noticed that ever since I started fasting 16:8, my hunger has actually decreased and I don't snack as often. When I see candy/chocolate now I can resist it. My will power has definitely become stronger! Also I've noticed when I'm on a fast routine I eat more simple and more clean.

      ​@zeeski7454 They have a machine at some of the fancier gyms that trainers use to take your inbody results. One of those results I your BMR along with body fat percentage. Body fat should be the main criteria that people focus on losing and not so much their weight as weight fluctuates with water retention and other factors.

    Oh my goodness this answered so many of my questions concerning how much to eat. I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to try and eat a lot more food in a short window or if we were supposed to be eating the same size that we normally eat. This was very confusing to me so I’m glad to have this clarified!

      If I had to guess I'd say the eat all you want in your one meal a days is more of a way to get you into OMAD, to make the 2nd and 3rd day 33 hour fast managable. After two weeks in I find I can now just eat a normal meal.

    the cool thing about fasting is that it reduces hunger, which allows greater control over your eating behavior. eating more of the right things and less food overall is a lot easier when your body is willing to go along with it.

    YEESSS. My 1st attempt omad 1 year ago, I was eating as much as possible in my one meal so that "I wouldn't feel hungry and be tempted to eat later." Only to find myself PISSED I was only maintaining my weight, not losing. It wasn't until my current second attempt at fasting that I'm eating a regular sized meal and stopping when I get that first signal I'm full, even if I have more on my plate. (sometimes I eat a little more if it's too delicious 😅) and that change has not only been of course, helping me lose weight. I'm surprisingly LESS hungry than I was the 1st attempt. It's been going great so far 1 month in!

      Hey! That's amazing. With my first attempt I could lose some weight with apple cider vinegar and even with carbs I was fat adapted. But I left it for some reason and now with my second attempt I am not losing any. Even if you ate less did you get hungry later? Or did that affect your health in anyway?

      @@gargijadhav202 Now I only get hungry about 3 hours before my eating window. Which is totally normal and expected to happen. And I can hold out and keep myself busy or distracted for 3 hours. 👍🏼 So far I've been kinda half assing keto 🤣 I'll have some cards here or there like breaded chicken. But I'm not having say a serving of rice, potatoes, or pasta. And on foods I'm not having dense creamy dressing like ranch. HOWEVER there are plenty of times I've just wanted some ramen or my sister made sweet potatoes dessert and I had that as part of my meal. And I eat the starchy foods LAST so that when I get full, I get full on the high fat and protein stuff FIRST. Other than that, I'm doing pretty good! 💖 Oh! And another thing, I now know that if I had a carb heavy meal and not fat adapted anymore, I'm DEFINITELY going to be more hungry the next day. And because of that I can remind myself "I only FEEL ravenous because I had carbs, I can wait it out like any other day. 😤" that helps me stay motivated. Hope that answers your question.

      Yes lots of us must make that mistake at the beginning.. it is a learning process..
      By me (BMI normal but bad glucose homeostasis) i felt a psychological emotional stress at the end of even a short fasting (want to lower my insuline level) : i couldnt convince myself that all my needs were covered. and felt ravenous when taking my first meal, breaking the fast.
      So i stopped fasting.. was a disturbance but have kept keto or very low carb perfectly well.. and no snacking of any sort for 3 years now.
      Now I prepare it.. i must feel self-confident and at peace.. no forcing, no tension (of course 0 g carb a day before..to have a better start. )
      so i can break the fast, keeping my emotional balance .
      Hedonic food is such a thing (mother..)
      But there is a hedonic fasting too.. i guess . The fasting state can be really pleasant..

      @@gargijadhav202 I think the key to stay full and not starve the rest of the day is to eat low carb and get your body used to that first. Obviously, no sugar including fruits and grains. Once you lower your blood sugar and insulin levels, fasting is easy peasy! and to keep yourself full without simple carbs, you need to eat healthy fats like olives, nuts and avocados with lots of leafy greens and fiber.

    Tremendous videos. I have lost 18 lbs largely because of intermittent fasting (when I have done this). If I follow IF, it is not a struggle to lose weight. Combined with focusing on organic foods, mostly, I definitely feel better.

    I think folks think of fasting as the highest level change that is needed. The most fundamental part is if we eat healthy we will carry a normal amount of bodyfat. The two most important parts of eating healthy are eating real foods(no processed foods), and not eating very often(fasting). I've found that if one combines fasting with eating real foods, you don't need to worry about calories, overeating, undereating, anything. Eating twice a day and only real foods, a person will get healthy, and they will loose bodyfat. Easy to understand, challenging to implement, life changing when you do.

      What you are claiming is incorrect. I am yet to find the magician who will explain to me how calories that you ate magically disappear somewhere in your body. If you eat more than you burn, calories will be stored as fat. That’s a fact. The effect that really helps you making those assumptions is that real food has way less sugar and therefor way less calories than processed food. Also when you fast, your stomach will become smaller and you will feel full after eating less. All in all, most people will simply not manage it to eat more than 2000 calories in one meal every day. That’s why they lose weight. Fasting merely controls where the energy comes from that’s being burnt and has other beneficial effects. But it’s not the reason for losing weight.

      @@Lance54689 i guess you dont know how i feel. i fast around 22hrs daily so i do get it. you didnt answer my question tho. what happens to a calory that you ate but you dont burn? if you have ever ran for an hour straight and burnt 800 calories, if you have expirienced the amount of work your body can do within an hour by burning 800 calories, you should ask yourself where the hell those 800 calories go when you dont burn them... when you eat 2800 calories daily and only burn 2000.... how is fasting gonna help?

    I’m loving IF/TRF. I did OMAD on my first month. No exercise, high carb and I lost 10lbs. Now on my 2nd month, now incorporating low carb sometimes 99%carnivore meal; still no exercise. This time I am doing OMAD and 2MAD depending in my hormones aka monthly period. I’m loving this lifestyle; can’t wait for my result come October 2023😊 I love this lifestyle.       Me too! I used 2 days fast/1 day feed routine to lose most of my weight, but transitioned to 18/6 when I was ready to slow down and get to maintainence. It's kept me at my goal for 2 years now, but I must say those first months, after doing 2 fast/1 feed for so long, 18/6 made me feel like I was eating all the time.

      That's why you shouldn't do OMAD long-term. I learned that the hard way. I did keto and fasting for years and it wrecked my metabolism. You should do IF at least up to 6 months in a year, then go back to regular eating. That would allow your body to get fat-adapted and get the benefits of fasting without crashing your metabolism. Then do extended fast of 10 to 40 days once a year. This annual cycle of IF, regular eating and extended fast is more beneficial and safer than making IF your permanent WOE.

    My experience verified everything that Dr. Fung stated here. I need to lose 10 lbs to get my BMI down to 25.0 again. Started a low carb diet and 16/8 IF last Sunday. I also exercise 5x a week (brisk walking or jogging 4 miles). By Friday that week I had lost just over 5 lbs. Low carb + IF + exercise is a good recipe for weight loss.

    Dr. Fung, you were introduced to me by my son, Joel. I fast 18 hours and next light meal is after 6hours. My glucose was a bit over normal when I had blood test. I could not accept it, so got tested again, this time with just 12-hour fasting. It was normal. YOU explained well why. The test was measuring the stored glucose from my body being used for energy. I am so happy I found you through my son!

    Thank you Dr. Fung. this makes perfect sense. My issues isn’t eating too many calories, my issue is not being able to eat my food in an hour. I’ll find that I’m rushing which upsets my stomach. So, the last few days I’ve been eating within an hour and a half window,Feels so much better .

      I need two hrs becuz I eat a huge salad, mostly lettuces, along with my fatty proteins and a fatty dressing. I enjoy chewing so I give myself a lot of very low carb material to chew and that satiates me till next 22 hrs when I eat again (1-2 black coffees btwn and water).

    I did 16/8 for months then 23/1, 5 days a week the other sat/sun breakfast Dinner. Have no idea what my weight is but I fit cloths I'd forgotten about. Still struggle with overfeeding the odd day, don't beat myself up over it just do better the next. Feel amazing. Thank you Jason Fong.

    Thanks Jason been fasting 20 / 4 all the time with the occasional 24 hour fast. Lost 60 pounds never felt better. Going to move up to occasional 48 to 72 hour fasts to loss even more weight and lower my blood pressure. I have been over eating after fasts but learning to eat slower and drinking more water during meals. Once again thanks.
