- Here is a quick video demonstrating how to refill the AdBlue reservoir on a Passat TDI. This video also shows how to refill the spill-proof bottle of fluid from a bulk tote, which will save you money on service costs, as the bulk containers are cheaper. Skip the expensive dealer and do this service yourself! Be careful not to spill, as the fluid will grow white crystals all over the interior like a high school science experiment.

nice tutorial. better than cutting off the bottom like in those other videos. My question is, does the blue adapter attach directly to the BlueDEF 2.5 gallon bottle? I have a x5 dielsel and the refill is in the engine bay which has a lot more space than your trunk to refill the def.

Great video but what were these engineers thinking when they hid the fill port for the urea tank in the trunk? I mean, I get not wanting to mix up diesel and urea but there is some advantage to having a fill port outside the car just like the fuel tank. Good luck if you have a lot of junk in the trunk.
With the filler off to the side it's still accessible with items in the trunk. I do wish they had put it in the filler neck though.

I have 2015 golf tdi, does it matter what brand of DEF I fill up with? I just want to dodge that cost from my local stealership.

How many times can you unscrew the bottle before for refill before the assembly becomes unusable?
+fastyz400 I've unscrewd mine at least 4 times now and it still works fine. Just be sure it's clean, rinse any crystals that form on / inside it off before refilling with new DEF.
where di you bought the Adblue? is his the same as Def?
Adblue is DEF. (Diesel Exhaust Fluid). Adblue is just the VW type of brand. You can get compliant DEF fluid at any Auto Parts Store. Even Walmart carries it. PEEK DEF from Advance Auto works great for me.
What is the point of adding the add blue?
Is it a do it yourself kind of thing or must it only be done at the dealer ?
Well, I'd say it's DYI friendly... you can see we did it in the driveway. No need to pay a dealer premium to have it filled, just like with wiper fluid.
There are some gas station pumps that pump DEF.
Twisting that off broke my bottle. It won't screw back on again.

I have a 2017 voltswagon jetta and the dealer told me last year that I would have to add adblue also known as DEF and I want to know where on the 2017 Volkswagen jetta does it go because I really dont want to go to a dealer
Jessicahh Rabbitt are you sure it’s a 2017? The last year for diesel Volkswagens in North America was 2015. Gasoline Volkswagens do not use DEF (diesel exhaust fluid).
When I called vw they told me that my car would need it I told them that it's a 2017 voltswagon jetta and she said yeah your gonna need the DEF fluid and to come in and get it done that's why I'm confused cuz I literally looked all over my car and I dont even see where it would go if I had to put it in

The problem is this stuff expires in short order so buying that big box is useless. No?

It was pretty good and served us well, but we did the dieselgate buyback and put that toward a Tesla Model 3, which has been great.
What to do if the adblue doesn’t work ?
You have to fix it otherwise the car will not run. It gives you a countdown and several warnings before it leaves you stranded, but it will indeed leave you stranded if you don't take action.
How long un-till that piece of shit system fucks up and puts your car in to im a expensive piece of shit mode
