  • We visit Lake Windermere on the shores of Bowness on Windermere to enjoy a family day out in the Lake District. We head out on to the lake by hiring a motorboat and show you some of the main attractions in Bowness-on-Windermere even in the rain!
If you prefer lake cruises then we provide some information about the various cruises available from Windermere Lake Cruises.
We enjoy some Kendal Mint Cake and Roly's Fudge while staying at a lodge at White Cross Bay Holiday Park and Marina which is a Caravan park near Windermere. On our brief walk through of the village we show you the entrance to the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction and the Windermere Jetty Museum while taking in breathtaking views of Lake Windermere itself. We also show some other shops and restaurants including the world famous ice cream shop at Bowness.
Featured is a short stroll to the National Trust site of Cockshott Point. Bowness is actually the end point on the famous Dales Way walking route.
It is said that Alfred Wainwright actually decided to move to the Lake District after visiting Winderemere eventually writing his famous set of walking books.

Since it gained World Heritage Status, the Lake District has become busier. Around 20 million people visit each year now......

It isn't actually called "Lake" Windermere. It's just Windermere. The "mere" part of the name means a large open body of water......
