Surely your best route from White Cross Bay to Bowness-on-Windermere would have been to walk down through Troutbeck Bridge toward Windermere, turning right at the roundabout (where the road from Kirkstone Pass ends,) onto Rayrigg Road, and continue down to Fallbarrow Park and from there into Bowness Town/Bowness Bay. The advantage with that route is that it has pedestrian pavements for almost the whole route, and there are hardly any roads that you'll need to cross! (certainly not the busy A591.)
...Fallbarrow park is nowhere near 10-15 minute walking from Bowness-on-Windermere. From the Fallbarrow Park gates, if you'd have veered off from the main road and gone down the RIGHT hand side of the Rayrigg Road car park, it would have lead you downhill through lanes and back streets that would have seen you at Bowness pier in less than 5 minutes.
...Also, you could have got your bus back to Whitecross Bay much quicker: the 599 open top service now runs as far as Braithwaite Fold car park on Glebe Road, so you could have caught your bus back from there, (about 1/4 mile from The Marina Village!)

Thank you for such a comprehensive video. It answered all my questions because I am currently deciding whether to stay in a Lodge at Fallborrow or a Caravan at White Cross Bay. Still can't make my mind up though?

Hi Sam! Many thanks for your comment and we are glad to hear that you found our video useful. If you want to be a bit more central, Fallbarrow is more convenient as it's only a short walk from the centre of Bowness-on-Windermere. White Cross Bay is lovely, but it's a good 50 minute walk. Taking the car is an option, but on weekends and public holidays, getting parked can be a nightmare. Do let us know where you end up deciding to stay! Take care
