  • 'Tales From the Bottle' returns to bring you the tragic tale of the Weaver family and the siege of Ruby Ridge.
"Ruby Ridge was the site of an eleven-day siege near Naples, Idaho, U.S., beginning on August 21, 1992, when Randy Weaver, members of his immediate family, and family friend Kevin Harris resisted agents of the United States Marshals Service (USMS) and the Hostage Rescue Team of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI HRT). Following a Marshals Service reconnoiter of the Weaver property pursuant to a bench warrant for Weaver after his failure to appear on firearms charges, an initial encounter between six US marshals and the Weavers resulted in a shootout and the deaths of Deputy US Marshal William Francis Degan, age 42, the Weavers' son Samuel (Sammy), age 14, and Weaver's family dog (Striker). In the subsequent siege of the Weaver residence, led by the FBI, Weaver's 43-year-old wife Vicki was killed by FBI sniper fire. All casualties occurred on the first two days of the operation. The siege and stand-off were ultimately resolved by civilian negotiators, with the surrender and arrest of Kevin Harris on August 30, and the surrender of Randy Weaver and the surviving Weaver children the next day.
Randy Weaver and Kevin Harris were subsequently arraigned on a variety of federal criminal charges, including first-degree murder over the death of Deputy US Marshal W.F. Degan. Harris was acquitted of all charges, and Weaver was subsequently acquitted of all charges except for the original bail condition violation for the arms charges and for having missed his original court date. Fined US$10,000 and sentenced to 18 months in prison, he was credited with time served plus an additional three months, and was then released.
During the federal criminal trial of Weaver and Harris, Weaver's attorney Gerry Spence made accusations of "criminal wrongdoing" against the agencies involved in the incident, in particular, the FBI, the USMS, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), and the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for Idaho. At the completion of the trial, the Department of Justice's Office of Professional Responsibility formed the Ruby Ridge Task Force (RRTF) to investigate Spence's charges. A redacted HTML version of the RRTF report was publicly released by Lexis Counsel Connect, an information service for attorneys, which raised questions about the conduct and policies of all of the participating agencies. A PDF version of the report was later posted by the Justice Department.
Both the Weaver family and Harris brought civil suits against the government over the events of the firefight and siege, the Weavers winning a combined out-of-court settlement in August 1995 of $3.1 million, and Harris being awarded, after persistent appeals, a $380,000 settlement in September 2000.
To answer public questions about Ruby Ridge, the Senate Subcommittee on Terrorism, Technology and Government Information held a total of 14 days of hearings between September 6 and October 19, 1995, and subsequently issued a report calling for reforms in federal law enforcement to prevent a repeat of the losses of life at Ruby Ridge, and to restore public confidence in federal law enforcement. It was noted that the Ruby Ridge incident and the 1993 Waco siege involved many of the same agencies (e.g., the FBI HRT and the ATF) and some of the same personnel (e.g., the FBI HRT commander.)
The Boundary County, Idaho, prosecutor indicted FBI HRT sniper Lon Horiuchi for manslaughter in 1997 before the statute of limitations for this charge could expire; the Idaho v Horiuchi case was moved to federal court which has jurisdiction over federal agents, where it underwent a sovereign immunity dismissal, an en banc reversal on appeal of the dismissal, and ultimately, the dropping of charges after a change in the local prosecutor."

Randy tried to answer them all then starts to get annoyed and just says yeah yeah ok man let me.grt back to dinner with my family, come to my cabin Sunday after church and I'll get them for you.
Sunday rolls around Randy gets the guns and this guy is inspecting them all over measuring them asking a million questions telling him all about how he wants them for his kids and doesn't want anything with the barrel to long, then finally decided to buy them.
He gives Randy the cash but then says oh wait these are still to long can you just shorten the barrel for little Timmy and Sally? If not I'll take my money back....
Randy says ok sure but we can't go to short that's pretty close to the legal limit, let me get my tape measure.
The ATF queef says no need I got a tape measure right here, right about .... Here is 3 inches see perfectly safe and legal.
Randy looks over and says yeah ok looks about right and cuts them.
Immediately in the ADF queef pulls out his sidearm and guys run out and tackle Randy and arrest him for cutting a shotgun 1/8in to short.
They then proceed to interrogate him for hours and trying force him to join the local area brotherhood through his friend.

I think the people asking why did Kevin and Sammy shoot at the Marshals fail to take into account the situation form their point of view. They were suddenly confronted by a group of armed men who had -
    1: Not announced them selves,
2: were not wearing any clearly identifying marking or clothing, (Unmarked generic BDUs you could have bought from any surplus store in 1992 don't really cut it)
3: had clearly been trying to approach with out being seen.
4: suddenly fire their weapons, again with out any attempt to behave like law enforcement, as opposed to a group of armed trespassers.
What a mess that could have been avoided if the "upholders of the law" had decided to act like such instead of larping in unmarked BDUs while managing to be startled by a friendly dog.

I would not consider the government of that time to be necessarily corrupt, but they obviously had a bad time checking facts and had crappy engagement practices against this sort of group, but you have to understand that this was before the internet was available. So everything had to be done through paperwork and the time it took for information and corrections to be processed made the whole process unorganized. The reason many governmental agencies are so crappy nowadays is because they all use outdated technology and many are forced to still use paper to handle the increasing population of people in the country. Also we see more of their failures now due to the information being more accessible, but they have been getting better. If only more people in charge of our government knew how to turn on a computer, and did not think that Pokemon is a satanic cult. It is pathetic.

-Basically a Federal agent "Entrapped" Weaver in order to get him to work for them.
-This same agent then LIED to his supperiors in order to make Weaver look like a "big fish".
( Green Beret, massive stash of weapons, close ties to Aryan Nation, etc.)
-Weaver agreed to work with the agent until he found out WHO he was supposed to join and inform on.
( People who kill the families of "Informants")
-Weaver told the Agent to "Go ____ Himself".
-Charges were brought against Weaver , the agent knew it was an open and shut case of entrapment , so "somehow" Weaver was given the wrong court date.
-Agent then "let it slip" to several people , over several incidents, that Weaver had been working with him. Thus painting a great big target on Weaver and his family.
-This same agent then began "leaking" information about the case to a local Conservative Radio Talkshow host as a way of putting more pressure on Weaver.
-The Marshals were told to keep the Weavers under surveilance but not to directly approach them, they actually set up cameras.
-The Marshals were unaware of the fact that they were there to record the Weavers being murdered by Aryan Nation, all they knew was they were getting tired of the "hands off" approach they were ordered to follow.
-So , against orders, they decided to just take Weaver into custody and put an end to this nonsense.
-The words "Bungled" , "Incompetent" and "Dumbasses" don't even come close to describing the effort to take Weaver into custody.
-What do you do when you just gunned down an innocent boy ( and his dog ) and you have a dead Marshal?
Well, you lie your ass off , claim you were pinned down by gunfire for TWELVE HOURS while you were actually destroying every piece of evidence you could get your hands on ,like erasing the surveilance cameras you set up, and don't bother to mention the kid you shot in the back.
-Well now the FBI has a whole load of BS about Weaver, they think he's some kind of special forces type with a massive arsenal who is central to Aryan Nation who just ambushed and killed a Federal Marshal.
-So they basically gave a "shoot on sight order" to their snipers and asked Weaver if he could "look out the window".
The sad part is , there's more.

It was actually far worse than this. After the sniper killed his wife a couple days went by and they continue to try and contact him by loudspeaker trying to convince him to come out. But they changed tactics and kept trying to contact and call for his wife not knowing that they had f***** up and killed her. This drove him into a darker mental state because he and his surviving family felt they were deliberately being toyed with since the mother was the one the police were trying to communicate with and she had been the very nice and reasonable one I suppose in that situation. An old friend was sent up to talk to them that I believe had old military connections from Vietnam or something and I can't quite recall, but I believe when he spoke to Randy on behalf of the police he told his friend that they killed his wife. He then walked down the hill and met with the police who had armored personnel carriers and things of that nature actually in position, and he literally told the police and the FBI how badly they have f***** up. He was not nice about it. The guy had been up in his cabin and feels as if he's been taunted because they shot and killed his wife and have been trying to reach out to her for a couple days. Eventually this mental stress can bind with the impending assault drove him to surrender.

I’m wondering if you even watched the video tbh.

Military members had to shoot some of the kids involved in self defense and to ensure no one else would further be killed in a fire fight. And you're right, the agents were being controlled by a corrupt higher up, but I doubt the higher up actually told said agents about their task in detail. Even if they knew, I would think they would still practically have no choice. The people that shot the kid and dog also have feelings, man. I know! it's like no one ever taught them to think more than one or two steps into the future of a "Cause & Effect" action. That's an indicative sign of an unthinking moron.... and someone armed him and gave him a badge ::facepalm::

What pissed me off just as much was just how much they entrapped him, with him essentially selling a legal gun, to which they asked for him to do an illegal modification, to which he said it was easy and they could do it, to which they became enraged and made promises and even some threats before eventually caving just so they would leave him alone. The reality behind ruby ridge is that the atf showed that the kgb has nothing on how absolutely low down and how much they essentially stood for the opposite of everything an American holds dear.

The ATF just tried to create a snitch, and when Randy refused, they murdered his entire family in retaliation.

I wonder if anything was ever done to the snipers that fired on them. The Nazis that followed corrupt orders were brought to justice. Why shouldn't this be done for the snipers?

I'm pretty sure the special rules created for that siege allowed them to shoot any member of that household on sight.

If I remember correctly the sniper that shot Weaver’s friend and killed his wife, was also active at the Waco Siege. And the man who did the Oklahoma Bombings was at a point going to target that sniper and his family.

It was Lon Horiuchi, FBI murderer, who is currently enjoying his retirement.
However, Lon has a face-to-face meeting with God coming up so he will not escape judgment.
The sexual deviant attorney general Janet Reno, who was working with the Clinton regime to stamp out freedom in America, is burning in eternal hell as we comment.
Louie Freeh, the then FBI director who was "just following orders" will also face the righteous Judge who already knows all the facts.
