Every actor dreams of that âoneâ movie that will become their legacy. Tom Cruise killed it with this one. Amazing.
Top Gun so far as i am concerned, the origonal, it the legacy of not just Cruise, but also Kilmer.
@@AnIdiotAboard_ i agree i think the original will always be my fav due to the childhood memories when it was released back in 1986, i mean who didn't want to Maverick back then
Top Gun turned Tom Cruise into a hero/idol for so many youngsters, for years as we've got older we have used the joke where we've said "i'm Maverick your Goose" which always got a reply "No! i'm Maverick and your Goose"

I have praised this film endlessly.
Who else gets a giant thrill from the shot of the dust wake when Mav shoots up the mountain? I think it is so truly beautiful.
I think this arguably could be Cruise's signature role much like Rocky for Stallone or Unforgiven for Eastwood. I think its THAT impressive
i'm with you on that and i also love the view @1:55 when it's coming straight at the camera
I would say Ethan Hunte is his signature role but this is def on his highlight list.
Love watching Hangman's reactions once Maverick hits the start mark. #1 kicked back in the chair, smirk on his face, thinking "this is gonna be a hoot". #2 leaning forward thinking "can he really pull this off?". #3 admiration and realizing he's still got a lot to learn.
his face at the start was much more, hes laughing at the fact it was 4 mins and changed it to a ridiculously low 2;15 and the face of the admiral looking embarrassed that his time is gunna get almost halfed
@@crezy8490 Embarrassed, but I saw the admiral also hoping he could pull it off. Almost in spite of himself.

This was one of those movies that was a actual experience to watch. 10 out of 10 for me. Bravo! Loved it.
It's like the trench run in Star Wars: A New Hope. When Luke landed the torpedoes into the exhaust port, the whole place released their collective breaths, yelled at the screen, "Get outta there, Luke!" and when the Death Star blew up, it blew up in cheers. Very, very few movies get you going like that and it's so nice to see Tom Cruise giving us that same feeling all over again.
Me and my kids loved it especially my son we watched it like 10 times lol
@@CalebBerman Simple response: PROVE IT! Prove there is a god. Prove that Jesus did magical stuff. Not just stories, not just annecdotes. Don't just say "The Bible says... yadda-yadda-yadda". God saying stuff in the Bible is just as valid as Frodo or Gandalf saying stuff in The Lord Of The Rings books.
I was on the edge of my friggin' seat during this whole movie. Yeah, I know Tom Cruise is some bat-shit crazy scientologist, but this was an Air Force propaganda movie all the way. But I admit that I love edge-of-your-seat movies like this!

That, "Talk to me, Goose" as he sees the sunset really gets to me.
That, and towards the end when he says "I'm sorry Goose".... eyes start leaking.
I remember that scene in the theater: when Maverick says that line, the entire audience let out an emotional sigh. Everyone knee after 30 plus years., he still carries Goose's memory and loss with him.. And the score just adds to it. đșđČ
That line was bordering on "overused" but it worked. What still bothers me is Rooster said "Talk to me, dad". It just felt forced and unnatural. The movie still kicks ass in 7.1 surround sound in my living room. I saw it in standard and IMAX and IMAX sound was miles ahead of the standard version.
But Goose is dead so he didn't say anything back. And I'm a gay butt sniffer
@@DC-os6dk the rooster says "Talk to me dad", the very next voice he hears is Mavericks saying "Don't think, just do". Symbolising Mavs role as Rooster's father figure.

The look on Cyclone at the start. He wanted him to pull it off.

Nicely written.
This movie set the standard for future aviation films.
You know the actor did a good job when I actually start to believe that's him in the cockpit actually flying the jet and doing all these maneuvers. Perfect example that you don't need some crazy concept for a good movie. You can keep it simple but just execute it well.
bc he did
It helps that many of these stunts- this one included- were done with real planes with actual Navy pilots flying and the actors riding in the backseat.
@@Ap_Productions04 no he didn't. EVERY actor was sitting copilot. Actual aviators were doing the flying
@@Ap_Productions04 the only plane Tom actually flew was the vintage one at the end. All he did was ride shotgun and felt all the movements

I was happy with the price of admission in the theater after the opening scene. Everything thereafter was icing on the cake
Iâve seen many sequels and most blow azz⊠this sequel was actually amazing, well written, cinematography, acting ,story was all great and nostalgicâŠ.
This sequel "blows azz," too. Aside from some lovely shots (when they're not wholly cgi) the plot is weak (they re-wrote Star Wars), there is no characterisation of the rival force (it's obvious they wanted, but didn't have the balls to say Iran), mission & aviation even less accurate than the original (saying a LOT) and somehow Maverick's story apparently hasn't developed at all in 30 years (his invented billet fails to explain how his rank is feasible at this stage); well, unless you count his obvious death at mach10 in the first 5mins of the film.
Also, less writing/more filming: they get basic physics confused, don't even bother to understand radar or keep track of which missiles are IR vs. radar lock, all the staff are incompetent for zero reason (except Swiss-army Hondo, who "does it all") and (possibly linked) every manoeuvre is undertaken at stupidly unsafe separation distance... to name just a few glaring issues.
It is only watchable on account of the photography.

This is the best scene. It's perfectly done and even how we are feeling what the other pilots feel.
And it's amazing how the the whole movie the Admiral is totally baffled as to why Maverick is even around. And this scene, he understands.
I had extremely low expectations going to see this movie, believing that topping the original was as likely as me ever hitting mach 10 in a Tomcat, but DAMN, I never been so happy to be so wrong.
All aces, start to finish.
Still.
I had imagined Maverick walking into a bar with 'Danger Zone' playing on the jukebox, and he slightly notices, and mutters to himself,
"Haven't heard that one in a while"
It was a much more subtle movie than that, in fact when he walked into the bar and saw Penny they were playing a David Bowie song, whom Jennifer Connolly starred alongside in the Labyrinth in the same year the first Top Gun came out.
Same here. I wasnât really feeling this movie, but my mom wanted to go see it, so I watched the original a few nights before going to see this one.

Been watching him since I was a kid....watching him now...and he still keeps going...
I like how they had a young Maverick in this movie (Hangman) making Cruise see the younger version of himself. Also I like the fact that even thought the Top Gun movies are exaggerated on the real deal, they did in fact add a character who closely resembles the real pilots we have today (Bob) to me I enjoyed seeing these different elements in the movie haha. :)
when the daggers take off on the mission the sequence of events from the launching of the Tomahawks, the getting into formation and how they handle the threat of the SAMS, especially the way they avoid the incoming missiles with a combination of sharp turns and deploying flares, i found the whole mission interesting as it gives you a slight glimpse of how the US war machine does their stuff
Bob is a NFO not a pilot but most Naval aviators and NFOs are laid back unassuming people. The Hangmans are rare exceptions.
Just if you already didn't know Maverick is built different
His exploits... Are legendary.
The best line was just before this part, where the traffic controller said he wasn't scheduled to flights today and Maverick says: "well... I'm going anyway"
I think people loved this scene because we love to see something impossible accomplished
haha đ€Ł "this is where we've had trouble with comms, sir'' savage. missed that hilarious trash talk while watching the movie glad to have spotted it now
that mach 10 scene was fking spiritual. the way he flew so fast he actually crossed from day to night to day again, and the arc his plane describes can be seen against the face of the earth itself.
Can we also give credit to the superb music that set the tone, mood and feeling we all were experiencing for each of these great scenes!!
no doubt the music helped make this such a awesome sequel - i got to hear Hans Zimmers work first in the Dark Knight movies especially The Dark Knight Rises which was epic so when i watched this for the first time and heard the music i thought that sounds like Hans Zimmer - the intensity his music adds is amazing
Maverick is like, "fine, i'll do it myself".. lol
I held my damn breath for the entire video. Thatâs gotta be some kind of record!
I don't give a rat's ass what anybody on this planet has to say about Tom Cruise, he just makes these movies so. much. damn. better because of his intense attitude. This dude is a movie treasure.
Thought Top Gun was better, but I liked how they wrote Maverickâs story, especially how it went down with Iceman watching over him through the years. Also, the homage to the Chuck Yeager scene in The Right Stuff was cool. đ

Hangman facial reaction and expression is Top Tier
Anyone else catch the throwback scene when he crashes after Mach 10 and walks into the diner? It's almost a tribute to Back to The Future. And the way he says "Just A Little Push" is almost exactly how Heath Ledger says that same line in The Dark Knight.
In the space of a month Hondo goes from being commander of an experimental jet program to drill sergeant for navy pilots to chief on the deck of an aircraft carrier. Evidence that the whole movie was a dream from the time Maverick died after reaching Mach 10.
