  • This 500 year old Arabic Coffee is a complex caffeinated combination of flavors - perfect for an after-dinner pick-me-up or a midnight drink while camping amongst the sand dunes. FULL RECIPE BELOW:
    INGREDIENTS:
    For 2 servings.
    - 3 Tbsp Arabic Coffee
    - 1/2 Cup Rose Water
    - 10 Cardamom Pods
    - 1/4 tsp Cardamom Seeds
    DIRECTIONS:
Toast your cardamom pods over medium-high heat until they turn brown - about 2-3 minutes.
Crush the pods with a mortar and pestle.
Add fresh ground coffee to a pot along with the crushed cardamom. Fill with water, heat, and let simmer for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes, strain the grounds and spices and return the coffee back to a boil.
Just before serving, add your cardamom seeds and rose water. Enjoy!

    The method is 100% correct
    I'm Saudi Arabian though ...
However , the ingredients differ from region to region , but the method is the same
But remember , dark roast coffee will not gives you the ultimate taste , blonde coffee beans is highly recommended .
If you can[t get some coffee beans , you can have some raw green coffee and roast it in a skillet until golden brown
Mainly , Arabic Coffee is just coffee and cardamom , other spices is optional
Brewing time from 10 to 15 min - mid-low heat - uncovered pot
7 gm "1/2 tbs" coarse coffee per 150ml water
No Sugar added at all , served with dates or any dessert you like

Meshal Alshehri Thanks for this technical advice; I often wonder how to process the green coffee beans I see at Middle Eastern import stores here in the Detroit area, and am told to roast them to my preference and I have no idea what that means--I grew up in a Slavic family drinking tea! : )

    • @meshalalshehri9207
      @meshalalshehri9207 Před 9 lety +1

tamcon72 take it or leave it , you can use "Arabica" Coffee beans , you can find it everywhere in US
you don't have to buy from Middle Eastern section .
If you want to know to what level you should roast them , you have to look up online for the proper roasting level " judging by color "

This form of coffee definitely not saudi
Our coffee have two main ingredient
    1) lightly roasted coffee till is blonde ( roughly crushed)
    2) raw crushed Cardamom pods
And a few optional ingredients such as:
Saffron , cinnamon , cloves, ginger .... extra
Arabic coffee is a symbol of generosity and hospitality
And its a sign of honor and its a very respected drink in saudi arabia
By the way the color of the coffee defers from region to region so the flavor and the spices used in it and every household has it's own method of preparing it

Hi, good morning! I'm from saudi arabia and I love love your channel.
Here in middle we don't put rose water..and we don't toast the cardmom, we make it like this: firs boiling water then put a coffee and higher the fair for like 30s then low it and keep it for 20m. Then put the cardmom and enjoy with some dates absolutely!

  • @MsGAZDAR
    @MsGAZDAR Před 9 lety +1

The coffee beans must be blondish in color and simmer with water (only) for about 20 minutes. You add the crushed cardamom in the severing pot or (Dallah) then strain the hot Qahwa over it. U can add ginger or saffron but I have never heard of rose water in a traditional Saudi coffee maybe in Syria or turkey though! Love the video btw 😍

This may be a variation on Arabic Qahwa..but it is NOT Saudi..my husband is Saudi and the coffee they drink that *is* Saudi..is yellow in color..and Rose Water is never added to it..Cardamom is the main and only addition in the traditional method..some people do add Saffron and Cloves..the method you are showing is more available in the tribal areas of Jordan..Iraq (where I am from)..and Syria..and the same applies to the Rose Water..it is never added! I love this series..but find this video unsatisfying due to its inaccuracy.

rose water it is very strong flavor to be added to qahwa. it has strong smell that if added will power the smell of coffee beans which is the best about arabian coffee. and I know that because in my city we make the world best rose water. we use it in food maybe, but it is a crime to qahwa. Thanks for the amazing video, am fan of this show and had tried many of the recipe and loved it.
Just small advice, when making Qahwa (gulf country drink) we usually use light roasted coarse coffee bean, bring water to boil add the ground coffee and boil it three time and turn off the heat let it rest for minute. mean time in the pot (dalla in arabic) add the crushed cardamon, zafran and optional rase water about 2 teaspoon now add the coffee to the pot and enjoy. pro tip when serving Qahwa traditionally you hold the pot in left hand and small coffee mug on right out of respect for the person you serving too and the receiver once finished with his cup shake it a bit or or he will keep getting refill .. :P

I'm so jealous of other arabic countries. You see, Tunisia was a lot like Saudi Arabia before Ottoman times, but then under the rule of the Ottomans the Tunisians grew a very strong liking to them, and started to copy everything the Ottomans did. So now we drink Turkish coffee and eat it with little cookies or turkish delights.

Actully it is called Arabic coffee most of mideleast countries they are drinking this kind of coffee.
what ever you go south, the coffee will be lighter colour such as south of Suadi Arabia and Yaman. the midle rigon lets say from Riyadh to South of Iraq or at least Kuwait the coffee will be in between not dark nor light! ostly blonde. what ever you go north like Iraq, Jordan, Syria and North of Suadi Arabia the coffee is darker.
the dark coffee has another cooking method or lets say has special method. they cook the coffee then they store it then cook it again and store it this process mostly fermentation and also we call it that.
the traditional spices is cardamomum only.
then after years some people putted some other spices like what writting in some comments.
but i never see coffee with rose water!

    No Arab country uses rosewater.

I know that it's supposed to add to the theme of the drink and the environment where it originated from but the lighting is way too freaking dark and I can't see a thing.

arabic coffee is often another name for saudi coffee (gahwa).. and this is definitely NOT it.. there is so much inaccuracy in this video! rosewater is NEVER added, our coffee is light in colour (golden) and we do not toast the cardamom .. other spices may be added (like saffron, cloves or ginger) .. and its never made by single servings, always by a pot made for sharing as people usually have more than one cup

Liked having more time reading the intro. The video IN MY VERY OWN OPINION is a bit too dark.

love your videos but the editing done from a cooks point of view really sucks. you would have burnt your hands so many times unless you No longer have feeling in your hands....
