    I have used several aer backpacks and this city pack pro is what I have been looking for. The organizer is neither overkilling nor insufficient, the clamshell style with this size works well for versatile occasions, and the aesthetic is so beautiful as aer always offers. Watching this vid when uploaded, I decided to get it, but I forgot to appreciate it. Thank you for uploading interesting vids as always!

    This is basically an update to the Lunar Pack collaboration Aer had with Ministry of Supply. It uses the same main body with good updates to the fabric and the addition of some front and side pockets. They also changed the water bottle pocket from a fully-zippered/enclosed design to an exposed one. Only criticism would be the location of that side D ring right above the water bottle pocket. It should’ve been on the opposite side (esp since they got rid of the side handle) b/c as is, if you lash anything to it, it’ll either interfere with getting your water bottle or it’ll be just a little unhygienic if you have an open-lipped bottle.

    • @dannypacks
      @dannypacks  Před rokem

      Thank you for watching and definitely some good points! I agree this is a good alternative to the lunar pack and that’s a good point to have placed the d ring on the other side especially with not having the side handle there

    • @ramonmichaelchavez7667
      @ramonmichaelchavez7667 Před rokem +1

      Most reviewers point out that they have the d ring there to allow for an additional carabiner to be clipped to a water bottle for extra security. I do agree I wisht hey had a mirrored one on the other side for additional carry options though.

    • @tcxi
      @tcxi Před rokem +1

      @@ramonmichaelchavez7667 I'd be curious to see if the bag designers actually meant for that to be the function of that particular D ring, b/c honestly that sounds superfluous. I haven't seen many other bags have a D-ring to support a water bottle pocket, especially one that already seems pretty deep and on a bag that's ostensibly for "city" use (and not like hiking where I could actually see some utility in it). Personally seems like either an oversight in design (to not put it on the opposite side) or an opportunistic design choice without a real function [like maybe there just happened to be a "load bearing" seam there they could slot a D ring there].

    • @alex-grover
      @alex-grover Před rokem

      I’ve seen other bag designers add that carabiner to support if you have something tall in the water bottle pocket, like a tripod or umbrella. Then you can attach a strap to the D-ring

    Wow great improvement from Aer here. So glad they moved to clamshell. I still prefer the overall aesthetic of Goruck especially when it comes to zipper noise. But, if this had come out a few years ago when I was comparing the brands I might have gone with this.

    Another excellent review! The City Pack is more useable now as a work bag. I like that, aside from the internal slip pocket, it's a big open space; you can fit your lunch in there without having to be concerned about the laptop. I don't think I care for that "see-through" mesh half on that zippered pocket, though.

    • @WLVFX
      @WLVFX Před rokem +12

      It really depends on what you want the backpack for. I have the Travel Pack 3 Small, and I would say that it's too big for an EDC or daily bag for work, but I am a guy with a small build. However, the Travel Pack 3 Small has a 28L capacity and you can compress it down, but it's still quite big, and if you get it in the ballistic nylon it's quite weighty. So this City Pack Pro might be better for EDC.

    • @yeharea
      @yeharea Před rokem +5

      YES I'm also comparing the two. The City Pack Pro is smaller by 1" in height and width and 4 L but it's a crazy 1.3 lbs lighter with a better water bottle holder IMO. Kind of makes it hard for me to go with the TP3S but I'm still on the fence!

    • @F_Bullies
      @F_Bullies Před rokem +2

      I just got both in the mail today. Both are beautiful and comfortable. I guess it depends on your personal needs. If you want to use the same bag to travel (1-1.5weeks) and edc with, go with the tp3s. If strictly for edc and maybe a weekend trip go with the CPP. Im going with the CPP but can’t go wrong either way

    @Traveling Salseros (Danny Barreto) I wanted to ask your opinion on the new Aer City Pack Pro. I am buying this bag in the next few days. My question to you is… If you were purchasing this bag, would you purchase the Xpac or 1680D Codura material? I am liking the orange interior along with the aqua guard zips. However I live in south central Texas and we get very little rainfall. Perhaps Xpac is overkill? Just wanted your expert opinion on these materials and which do you think is best. Thank you again for your time and amazing videos.

    • @dannypacks
      @dannypacks  Před rokem

      Thank you for watching and good question! Both fabrics are great options overall, the x-pac will have slightly better weather resistance and save a little on weight whereas the ballistic nylon may be a little more abrasion resistant over the long term. If you like the textured look of x-pac and the orange liner I think it will be a very good option

    I was wondering if you're planning on reviewing Linus Tech Tips' backpack? I really appreciate your reviews, and I hope to hear your thoughts on it! I wonder how it stacks up vs this bag.
    Also, wanted to thank you for your reviews. Based on your reviews I bought the Bellroy Transit Plus because I could get free shipping in Canada, which I ended up not liking that much due to a severe lack of tech organization options, so I returned it; but then I bought the Aer Travel Pack 3 (unfortunately expensive with shipping plus duties) which is amazing, it was perfect for my 10 day trip to Europe, alongside their sling bag for walking around cities. No other luggage needed!

    Great review! I am looking for an edc backpack to take to work etc. I always take a water bottle but rarely take a comp or iPad but still want that option to carry for short travel trips. I am between the goruck gr1 21L and using a molle attachment for a water bottle holder or the city pack pro. I really am looking for a durable pack, good warranty, 20 - 24L, something easy to clean as I work in the hospital setting and sometimes my lunch spills etc. What is your recommendation between those two and any others you would recommend over the two previously mentioned? Second questioned if you recommended the city pack pro would you go cordura vs xpac?

    • @dannypacks
      @dannypacks  Před rokem +2

      Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! This is definitely one of the current best options imo I love the GR1 and have used mine for years, but I would probably lean towards this one for most people due to the additional organization, the laptop pocket, the luggage passthrough and the more breathable harness. I think both fabrics are great just depends if you want some additional weather resistance / bright orange interior (xpac) or a more minimalist / rugged fabric (cordura). Some other options that might be worth considering are the evergoods cpl24, alpha one niner Whitley, the bellroy transit Workpack, Patagonia mini MLC 26

    For me, the full admin panel is a big deal, they shouldve retain that. And I know, travel pack 3 just looks like that but i dont like the load lifters and the bottle holder style, i like it better here and its smaller make it a perfect edc bag. I just want to carry everything on the bag itself and not carry another small edc bag, cuz if thats the case, i rather have some of their bags which is lighter

    • @dannypacks
      @dannypacks  Před rokem +1

      Thank you for watching and great question! I think this is a really compelling alternative to the city pack pro if you like the more sleek aesthetic and you’re looking for a top loading bag (vs the clamshell on the city pack pro). I think the city pack pro can hold a little more and I like the updated harness, but this one includes the side handle, it provides more space in the front admin compartment and it stands up better on its own.

  • @JustFluxz

    This bag reminds of me the Goruck GR2 but without the militaristic vibes. The GR2 is definitely the more functional bag, but I am considering the gray option of this bag as a more color neutral option of a different style. Not sure if it would be worth it though due to the similarities. I am looking for a companion bag to go with my GR2 26L (I have it in steel, want something gray to better work with my warddrobe and less militaristic). I use my GR2 for weekend trips and ocasional rucking. Ideally as a backpack, I think any bigger would be annoying to carry and I would move to a duffel bag for clothes, but with that being said for longer trips I likely wouldnt mind bringing 2 backacks filled with packing cubes. Unsure if I should go for similar size or smaller for EDC and as a secondary travel bag. Opinions? Currently looking at the TB Synik 22, Aer Travel Pack 3 Small, or City Pack Pro. I'd also look at other suggestions.

      @@RVASProductions Glad to help! i think its a fair concern and the bag can look a little uneven if you don't pack as much into the bottom of the bag and use mostly the top pockets

      Thank you for watching! Overall I prefer the aer city pack pro, as it has a dedicated Laptop area and I like some of the additional organization but both are great

    I really want to like these packs because they look super cool, but who needs to carry all of these items around. The typical person has a laptop, a charger, a wallet, sunglasses, etc. Why do you need a 3-pound backpack unless of course you work in tech or are a CZcamsr and have 2 computers, cameras, stands and lots of gear. Anyway, great review as always :)

      Thank you for watching and definitely a fair point! There’s many days where I don’t really carry that much and could probably get away with a much smaller bag, my thought when I review many of these bags is “could this be my bag for multiple use cases: gym, school, longer work day, weekend trips, etc” and imagine if I could use it emptier on days when I’m carrying less stuff while keeping the flexibility for the days I need a little more space

      Well seems we don’t know the same « typical persons . »
      I carry everyday with me a laptop, gym clothes and lunch. If you add all the extras (wallet, glasses, small tech stuff) 20-25ish liters, like this bag, is the sweet spot for many commuters.

    Really does seem like a worse version of the Travel Pack 3 Small. Both expensive and bulky, but this lacks load lifters, side handles, compression straps, detachable optional hip belt, full admin panel, etc.
    I suppose they target the people who think that the TP3 Small is too bulky, but this one still is. You just lose a lot of the features. Sure get the "worst-of-both worlds" impression here.

      the city pack pro is 1.3 lbs lighter than the tp3s and is 1 inch smaller in L & W (depth is the same). while I think the tp3s could be used under the seat, i think you'll have an easier time with this one. for a bag of this size i don't think i'll be needing those features as well. it is expensive but so are the rest of aer's bags in general.

      Thank you for watching and definitely some really good points there! As someone who is a big fan of the tp3 small, the way I look at it is that the tp3 small works as an edc bag but it feels like I’m using a travel pack as an edc whereas this one feels more like a daily backpack (a good alternative to something like the tech pack 2 imo). The lack of the side handle I agree is a big miss on this one, but I don’t mind not having the compression straps and the load lifters might not make as much sense with the contoured strap design this has. Overall, if people are looking for the most versatile bag particularly for minimal travel use I agree the TP3 might be the better value, but for anyone who wants more of a daily bag this is probably the one I would go with

      Is the 4L less in this pack over the TP3S even noticeable (capacity wise)? As I know litters are very subjective. For example my Timbuk2 Authority, which on paper is 6L bigger than my Herschel backpack fits significantly less than the Herschel, likely because the inside of the Timbuk2 is filled with interior fabric/pockets/organization which all work to eat up the internal capacity of the bag.
