The 155mm K9 Thunder is combat proven against North Korea. Today it’s an extremely successful vehicle; with over 1,700 have been produced. Each one costs about $2.9 million dollars per unit so you could almost trade one in for the cost of a single home in America. The K9 has many of the capabilities that originally were supposed to be in the United States prototype XM2001 Crusader. But that $11 billion dollar program was canceled.

With its new fire control system it offers an insanely high rate of fire at 10 rounds per minute; That’s 4 rounds per minute faster than the old technology. So this is what you call in when you need an entire mountain removed from the face of the earth.

Korean high end manufacturing kicks ass - great people to do business with too. You gotta know an outfit that came up with black five-layered pork belly cooked over a charcoal grill are going to perform under fire!
The real kicker is South Korea's ability to produce 3.2M 155mnm shells for these guns. U.S. capacity is currently at 300k rounds per year and the DoD is trying to bump it to 900k rounds per year, and the E.U. is debating the merits of building their own 155mm shell factories so they can produce 1m rounds per year. South Korea alone can produce 3.2M rounds per year, TODAY, right now if needed. Their capacity exceeds the U.S. and EU combined. And we can't really depend on the EU anyways so the global NATO 155mm shell production is solely on the shoulders of South Korea right now
Absolutely true. Once South Korea decides to supply Ukraine directly with ammo, Russia is fucked.
Little Czechia alone is already producing over 100k shells a year, so it's not like there isn't any production in EU. What is needed is actually placing massive orders to the existing plants, preferably long term, so the facilities can start planning their production and recruitment needs.
"We can't depend on the EU" is this some Fox-News s***? The contracts are already done and production is ramping up.

Australia got it too and its going to be called the "AS9 Huntsman" here. Named after a spider not necessarily dangerous to humans but notorious for its speed, size, strength and terrifying appearance. Hanwha is also arguably going to win the Australian Army's IFV competition as well. If they do, the K21, if Australia adopts it, will ALSO be named after a spider. The "AS21 Redback." Redbacks ARE deadly to humans.

K9 is not neccesarily best of the best, but Koreans offer really good deals on technology transfer and licencing. Its practically a ready made kit to produce in your country.
Do they come in matte black? I'll take 10!
Perhaps Korea has developed the ideal means of developing their arms industry, by ensuring it has a disproportionately large income due to these production licences. Other countries which might otherwise not be able to buy their products would now be happy to partner with the Koreans. Seems like win win.
@@conormcmenemie5126 it has its own logic: yes, we sell you ready made tech and you'll be able to make the stuff we sold you on your own, but with the profits from selling you our tech we'll develop even better tech.

Ok K9 thunder is good but Damn That reloading vehicle to transfers Artillery shells without exiting is awesome!
Wait till the K9A2 version becomes operational. It will be fully automated from loading, and target acquisition to firing. But the next version K9A3 version currently in development will have unmanned capabilities with AI that can act independently or as part of a drone battery.
@@michaellim4165 Anything with offensive weapons attached as a drone is bad idea. If enemy can get into command link and highjack it, you are screwed. Even just electronic warfare methods on attacking signal can disable whole system in worst case since everything is wireless. We both have a common enemy, radical islamic terrorists, China, and Pakistan should be the third. Wonder why we didn't tell Pak about the Bin Laden raid lol? Of course, I.S.I. would have told him and he would have disappeared for good!!
Edit: Well, our aid was around 1.3 billion to Pakistan and now it's under 200 million which is a move in the right direction. Next step: cutting that to no military aid and only medical or food donations. Even then, they should be able to fend for themselves. We have veterans of the war on terror living on US streets dying from drug overdoses and suicide hourly!!! Why is Biden and and nobody in my govt. Trying to help the homeless veterans and homeless in general instead of sending billions to countries that either hate us or would stab us in the back any day of the week. And here we are sending billions upon billions to Ukraine when we have starving American citizens!!! Or helping illegal immigrants before American citizens!!! Almost everyone in the govt.
