Silver maples have a sheen that is unmatched. Your side-by-side comparison really showed that
Appreciate you sharing this. Side by side you can definitely see the difference.
I would take that fake coin out of the general population. It needs to go to solitary confinement!
Quality content indeed. Thank you for sharing Josh.
Thanks for sharing Josh. That Maple looked pretty legit. I got two fake 1986 Liberty dollars from my LCS. I noticed the next day. And boy did they look terrible compared to an original. Luckily she replaced them for me. She felt stupid and ate the loss.
Excellent report 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💯
Glad you enjoyed it
It’s very rare that I see a fake anything come from a dealer. Their antennas are usually up spotting fakes. I supposed one could slip through. But it’s a rare exception.
Very good video. The fake looked like the queen's portrait was wider than the genuine coin. The dead giveaway for me was when you did the side by side, the radial lines on the genuine coin are so stunning, there's no doubt about its authenticity.
Good info, Josh!
Did the fake Maple pass the poor man's sigma test - Rare earth magnet test?
Thanks for the education 😀🇺🇸
wish my local shop had a bucket like that. I really want to get some varied bullion keeps things interesting. Shops here also never seem to have maples those radial lines make it my favorite along with the Britannia ones. Good anti counterfit protection too. Curious did you check the small leaf to see if it had smaller one inside with the year on it?
The fact the the word "Dollar" is spelled with two D's is a dead giveaway. 😂
😂
Queen head looks bigger on fake
I was thinking the same thing!
It stinks that you got a fake coin in the deal but it is for sure educational. I bought a fake silver bar on eBay years ago. I decided that was going to be the only one so I bought a sigma and a scale and now I test everything, even stuff from dealers because none of us are perfect. Thanks!
Thanks Josh. Hope the spot price acts just like last week for that flash sale.
Well, that makes one of us…. Lol
I need those old kookaburra's !!
Thanks for sharing.
So what should a customer's expectation be on the coin dealer's due diligence when they are selling secondary market gold and silver? The average person does not own a Sigma. It would absolutely affect my trust if a coin shop "misses" fakes when selling secondary market products.
I absolutely cannot stand that we have to deal with counterfeits and hate that they are getting to be so good and readily available. I’m on the market for three 1916d mercury dimes to complete my kids and grandkid dime sets and come across a really good counterfeit the other day.
Ya it’s infuriating.
Most Wholesale Sellers Don't have the TimE to Check every SILVER, for fakes! THEY SPOT CHECK!! JJ
I am curious as to whether your fake is the same thickness as a real one and whether it attracts a magnet. Even really good sovereign silver fakes I have seen don't get all three of diameter, thickness, and weight correct. Typically the good fakes are plated copper - if they are the correct size they will weigh too light, if they are the correct weight they will be too thick. The counterfeiters typically get the diameter correct because that's the most obvious thing at a glance, except sometimes with ASEs.
Ping test. Works great.
I guessed it was that one. I'll stop by tomorrow to pick up the prize I won. Thank you
😂
Brown bear Brown bear....what do you see
I see a fake silver round sitting in my pile
I think it's a Grizzly bear. It's what we have here.😅
I picked it out right away when I saw it in this video noticed the radial lines. They seemed odd.
I confused as to why you did not ask the seller for a credit. If I sold that fake coin to you I would be embarrassed and thank you for finding it. In the precious metal world, confidence is essential.
I didn’t accept a refund (the dealer did offer) on that 1oz because the overall value of the silver lot was still good. I instead asked him to keep me in mind if he has similar lots of silver for sale. I’d rather be near the top of that list than get $25 back…..
i got a fake bar from a well known local shop near me thats been doing business for over 20 years. i assume he didnt check it when he bought it but i didnt say anything about it, i just traded it back in for a coin to avoid him calling me a liar or say i was screwing him over. i havent purchased anything from him since then. waiting to get a tester first after that lesson. it was only 22 bucks and i still got a buffallo coin out of it so no real loss. be careful out there
That's why I have each item on a tester.
I saw that immediately as well that looks so wrong 😂
Fingertip ping a silver coin with another silver coin. It works better than with an ink pen in my opinion.
My local coin shop had fake Britannia in it's pile of one ounce bars/rounds. Spotted it right away.
He was clearly embarrassed as to how he missed it.
All I can say is if you stack, and have a variety, and handle it with regularity over the years, one can get skilled in the visuals quickly. Josh's demonstration of the ping test further concludes what was seen with the naked eye.
Website and eBay page would be great!
I saw the fake immediately, the radial lines are a clear giveaway
So josh how many
of those cook island and pandas you have and a price or some where we talk else where??
What percentage of your inventory do you test? 2/3 of my stack has been purchased from you.
I own some. Mine have the lines. Also some from canadian mint.
I got some fake ASE a few months back. Something felt off, they weighted correct, looked correct, but Something felt off to me. My LCS verified they were fake. Fortunately, the guy gave me my $ back. Im very careful now buying silver.
Did the coin pass a magnetic test?
I totally could see. Did you get reimbursed?.. just curious
The queen's portrait was a dead giveaway....it lacked definition.
Yes...the bold lettering and thick radial lines screamed fake
on the video the fake actually sounded better lol....
dealer probably got cheated too and didnt even know they passed it on.
29sec. Into the vide I can see the maple in the center of screen doesn’t look right.
ebay has some fake maple leaf coins - showing face value of 50 dollars instead of 5
When you say compensation, did you get your money back?
No, I instead requested to be given the opportunity to purchase similar lots from that dealer in the future. That’s is worth more to me than the $25 I’d get back…..
The queens face is off. The nose is different
Real ones face looks slimmer too.
I was told that there are 11 radial lines between the two I I's after ELIZABETH. I have gotten a fake like the one in your video. There are only 5 lines on mine.
My first (5) 2021 ASE's on eBay...I turned them over to the Sheriff's office ... eBay did nothing about it...haven't since...smiles
How much are they Josh?
Did it pass magnet test?
that maple leaf from a distance looks close someone not knowing would be fooled thank you
What about shipping to Canada
I only ship to the US. :(
How many kookaburras did you get and how much do you want for them and do you ship 😊
Kooks from video are all sold. I do ship. I have 2013, 2023, 2024 kooks still in stock
I wouldn't do business with that dealer ever
Fakes can happen especially in a big lot like that. I don't know a single shop that tests every coin they have before they sell it.
Mist last week's flash sale,😢
Today, which happens to be a couple hours after video launch on Monday, is the 19th. Am I watching this from another dimension where February 19th is actually on Thursday? In my universe, Thursday will be Feb 22nd. Greetings, Strange People, your fake maple Queen has a HUGE head!
Good catch. Made a typo. Flash sale is February 22, 2024! :)
Great video Josh! I noticed you have some Kookaburras. I collect them so can I send you a list of needed dates tomorrow? Thanks!
Love Kookaburras myself! 2022 was a great design
Kooks from this video are all sold. I do, however, have 2013, 2023, 2024 in stock
@@minotcoinbullion Hi Josh, how much are they? I think I have the 2013 but not home to check. I also would like a 2oz Bakken poured round. Thanks for all the great videos!
@@wornslick the 2013 kooks are on sale $30. ‘23 and ‘24 kooks are $33. The 2oz Bakken bar is $58. The only Bakken rounds in stock are 5oz.
Radial lines do show up clear in the video. Dead giveaway
I would say the real one looked alive and the fake was lifeless. The giveaway was when you flipped over the fake it bumped the other and sounded terrible. You did a mini ping test.
It's obvious to me, it looks so different.
Thanks for the info, Mine is legit
Looks like you kept it at the price per ounce to use as an educational tool.
The wholesale dealer should have refunded you the cost.
Very very obvious
Chinese bullion fakes, numismatic fakes, you've even got slabs being faked which people typically trust. I stay away from physical coins. Not worth the hassle anymore. I'd rather invest in a precious metal ETF.
I need those old kookaburra's !!
