No! That conversation with Rachel about the guy that wanted to buy a new car wasn't what Dave described here. The guy wasn't hot for a new car. His dilemma was that he needed a car and for what he needed, the USED model was more expensive to buy than the new one. He was looking at the math of it. He was paying cash and he could get a NEW car for $22k, but the used model was $25k so why should he buy used when new was less money. Rachel agreed with the caller, Dave stuck to his preprogrammed script of never buying new car when you're broke. The caller wasn't broke. He was paying cash and he was strictly looking at which car he could get for the least amount of money.

@@jjukjkjiok7782 Because during COVID, manufacturing facilities were largely shut down or production was greatly reduced. This negatively affected the availability of new vehicles and prices in the used car market skyrocketed. There was a period that you could, literally, get a new vehicle for less money than a used one. If you were lucky enough to find the new vehicle you wanted at a dealer, of course.

lol. "You're not doing anything wrong." Yes he is. If he convinced people to buy something they shouldn't you are in fact doing something wrong. Maybe not legally, but morally and ethically, yes. It's like a liquor store clerk selling a bottle of cheap whiskey to an alcoholic. Is it illegal as long he's over 21? No, of course not. Would most people agree it's wrong? Yes. Is it the ethical thing for the clerk to not sell him that bottle? Most people would say yes. Should he not sell it to the guy? Well that's up to the Clerk whether he values his morals or his job more.

At the time, the landline phone company had a special discounted rate if the customer made less than a certain number of phone calls per month - I think it was $5 a month. - and you had a black desk ,rotary dial phone. Even though the math is solid and your payment will be covered in what you save if you finance (that, in my opinion, makes solar panels a bit more tricky because it is true that they do pay for themselves even if you finance them), you have to remember that they do not add value to your home. It's like a pool or a hot tub. You may spend $50K on them but if you finance them and you move before they are paid off, you can't take them with you and you are responsible for eating the cost of the rest of it. If you are in your forever home, by all means, get panels and pay for them upfront.

Why do they have to have a brand new car? So that they KNOW there is nothing that will break down for years. I would buy and finance a new car if I had to. Buying used and paying for it, KNOWING there is probably something that is going to need fixing is just risking your life.

What if something is unethical? Can he leave even though he can't pay his bills? However, for me when you encourage people to go into debt, there is something immoral in it even though what is the standard it is fine to sell this idea of financing to customers. The reality is there is a lot of accepted unethical marketing ploy so we can't say just because it is acceptable now, it is not unethical or immoral. And not everything legal is right. Abortion is legal now.
