I'd like to think that Shula might've usurped Dabura, but then he reclaimed his kingdom until he got majin'd.
This is my personal favorite episode of this filler portion. I just like seeing Kid Goku go on weird mystical adventures.
The original Dragonball world was such a cool and crazy place.
Agreed. I’m actually disappointed in someways the Z portion dropped a lot of mysticism.

It really feels like Goku stepped into a Dragon Quest game in this episode; I say this, because Toriyama's done character designs for those games.
Like, DQ1; "Please rescue our princess" All that was missing was the king offering to save his journey...
I would love an action Martial arts RPG set in the Dragon Ball world, help villages, learn fighting techniques at different Dojos, Train for the world Martial arts tournament, explore the crazy world with dinos, cybercitys, giants, animal people, animal giants, different dimensions, spells, enchanted/unique weapons, it would be perfect. No one will ever make this game cause it's not focused on DBZ and flying everywhere with having every attack strong enough to wipe out south galaxy.

The emblem in Shula's forehead is a trident, traditionally worn by devotees of the God of destruction Shiva, called Shavites. In fact his whole design is based on that look, it's really cool for me.
In the Japanese version when Goku laughs he's laughing in the same way that the king is, but here instead of imitating the king's laugh, he just does the same old laugh he does everytime.
2:25 also in the Japanese version that guy says he sees a monster with a head for a crotch

14:28 Honestly, I think it's fine to consider Piccolo a demon. He was the evil half of Kami, which was quite literally the god of the Dragon Ball world. I think "demon" is a good word to describe a god's evil counterpart.
He can be both an alien slugman and a demon king at the same time, those things aren't mutually exclusive 😄

Except I don't ever recall the dub calling king piccolo a demon. Just the king part. Ik the symbol on his shirt is supposed to translate to demon, but theu never call him that. Maybe it's different in the sub, but I think I did watch the sub once and I don't recall him being called demon. It's just "king piccolo".

The demon King Schula was the ruler of the demon land before Debora who we get introduced to in dragon Ball z during the Buu saga.

Well flying is a technique that only the Crane School teaches. That isn't something you're going to be seeing from the "heroes" when it does eventually happen.

I think I've never seen many of these episodes. This for example, never seen it before. I liked it, but unfortunately it was kinda short, things were rushed out for a single episode. Wish they made it at least as two episodes.

And in Dragon ball z we meet the King of the Demon race Dabura
I wonder if we are ever going to explore the Demon race in full in Dragon ball that would be interesting for sure

Piccolo is a demon in Dragon Ball as aliens in the Dragon Ball Universe can be gods or demons. The god of Earth in Dragon Ball is literally an alien. In Japan humans and other things can become demons. King Piccolo is literally the evil personification of God that falls to earth and Piccolo is his reincarnation. Kami is the Japanese word for a deity, divinity, or spirit, it is not his name.
I'm pretty sure in the first episode of Dragonball Z Goku is still using the Nimbus. So I assume not untill then.
Iirc, early in DBZ, Goku can already fly, but he still uses the nimbus to conserve energy.

Only a few characters in dragon ball can fly. The rest don't fully fly until dbz
tenshinhan, chiaotzu, piccolo, goku, krillin. thats quite a few!
@@saphcal None of whom have been introduced yet, and krillin and goku don't learn how to fly until waaaaay later. Goku is still using nimbus at the beginning of dbz.
@@NecroSeraphim yeah goku keeps using nimbus til namek but him and krillin both know how to fly before raditz shows up.
KJM did a recap of this episode for Halloween, pretty good especially once you see it
For me I like these kind of fairytale style one shots. Feels real Journey to the West.

Headcanon: Dabura likely took over afterwards defeating Shura.
@@countprophet5881 Dabura didn't exist, he was created in Z. But anyway, if he is added retroactively, he probably didn't take over after Shura, but other way around. As Dabura says to Babidi that when they checked the planet 300 years ago, there was no one as strong as Goku there (forgot if they say same or similar thing in japanese version, so talking about english one here). So safe to assume that at this point he would have been under Babidi's influence and working for him, and not rule demon land.
Shura could be a ruler of his own faction/clan.

Ahhhh your mind is poisoned by DBZ garbage. Piccolo Daimao was originally meant to be just a demon king. All that alien bs was made up after the fact when Toriyama was forced to keep it going.
