I service it by myself. You can start with cleaning and demagnetizing the heads, capstan and pinch roller. Then with the service manual (google it) you can fix head alignment and, if needed, electronic calibrations.
I regularly clean and demagnetize, but never tried to fix the alignment. I could never imagine I could try to tune the calibrations. I'm tempted to ship my deck to you! :)

One of the first decks in the line, and the sound is still Nakamichi. They do not, and will not be. I have a Nakamichi CR-1.

For the playback it doesn't matter 3 or 2 head deck what it matters the 3th head is for the calibration for better recording results

I still own a Nak CR-1 and CR-2. Always dreamt of having the dragon.

I have Nakamichi DR-1 and ZX-9, the winner is ZX-9 is a real monster.
