What projector do you use
The idea to use a remote controlled car to run a thread was definitely a "you" idea. I will do the same when the time comes. 😂
I loved this. Especially since you know Bob has fish tape
When I worked in a warehouse with 22' ceilings we used a Barnett crossbow pistol that had a casting reel attached tho the frame and bolts were modified to attach to the fishing line. Perfect for running cables above drop ceiling tiles in office areas.
Fun fact, some people have trained dogs (small dogs of course) for this purpose ;)
That was certainly a highlight got me. Never would've thought to try that.
Throw a laptop camera on that car
To run cable on a straight run, use a tape measure to run along the chase and pull the string back when it retracts.
That remote control car idea was so funny! And the transition when you sat down on the couch was so cool, not that you seemed miserable before or anything but it's really nice to see you having fun with the videos! The basement turned out great!
Thank you!!
I have friends that used to be in the AV business. They used a slingshot and a steel nut to shoot wiring
2:12 You're perfectly allowed to show as many details about safe cracking as you like. There are whole CZcams channels dedicated to non-destructive and destructive lock bypassing such as Lock Picking Lawyer.
this was the moment for them to collab... huge missed opportunity!!
Just a fyi, you ideally for your patch you want to put mud on the side of the actual cut board not just the paper. The way you did you have a square that is suspended in the cavity only held there by mud holding paper to paper. Right now that patch won't really hold shelving etc well. Hope doesn't come across wrong pointing this out.
I think I would have dropped some drywall screws into those studs also.
@@AxGryndr yea, he already cut back to the 2x4
Oh!! A Bobby Duke fan!! Very cool
He's a good friend, and we all love watching his videos!! Bobby is the best!
@@Iliketomakestuff That he is! :)
Love the bobby duke video on the projector!
I am here for this comment! I actually screamed! I love me some Bobby Duke
I loved that picture/puzzle/safe. Should've called in TheLockpickingLawyer! "Good click out of 2, nice set on 3, nothing on 4 aaaand we're in. Now lets do it again to show that it wasnt a fluke"
12 buck impressing tool and he'd been in under 5 seconds
edit. the safe is salvageable. just needs new trimming and a tube lock
A tech may also use an L.S.D. or labor saving device. A long thin flexible(often glow in the dark) fiberglass rod. Using an RC car is an amazing idea. ❤
Great work Bob! We did something similar with an R/C car when we had to run ethernet cable through an air duct.
The remote-controlled car is one of the greatest ideas I have ever seen. Great job on building your dream room.
twine, metal washer and magnet would also help run the line
I totally agree with your comment about not using dry wall to hide the ducting. Access is important!
Having a cool space for your kids to hang out is really great. Growing up, our house was always where our friends came to play. My Mother loved it that we could have a great time and she always knew where we were. Good job, Dad!!!
Always fun to see you solving problems, and to know when to switch gears when things arent working out. Sheetrocking in the box miight not have been easier, but it wouldn't have been any harder. Though you wouldn't have the nice surface to drive the RC car on. 😁 Glad to hear the family is already enjoying the space. Thanks for sharing!
Bob, i knew a professional cabler who used those cheap pistol crossbows that were all the rage in the late 90s early 2000s. He took on of the bolts, put a rubber end on it tie it to pull string, and would get up in drop down ceilings in offices and fire it across.
3:16 That's definitely one of the advantages of having walls made of dry-wall. With the concrete walls around here you would need much heavier equipment to even get close to making a dent in the walls.
The look of sheer joy on your face when the car got to the other end, priceless.
My idea for the thread was a magnet.. you made it out of thin enough hardboard that you could easily just tape a magnet to the string, and drag a magnet along the outside and you’ll even be able to feel if you lose it. Easy.
Oh my god, that "California drywall patch" tip is HUGE for me. I've always been mad when I have to do drywall repair, but that tip makes so much sense. Thank you for the encouragement about your experience with drywall too, it really helps. THANK YOU!
Instead of sanding drywall, my husband discovered a damp sponge. Works great and doesn’t cause a mess. And that remote control car idea was brilliant!
Do you have a link to the LED sound activated lights.
All looks great! Last thing a kids hangout space needs is a small kitchen for drinks and snacks.
I was really hoping you were going to use some sort of r/c vehicle to route the cable and you did not disappoint! As always, always cool to see your thought process and screwups. The basement looks really awesome.
Thank you!
I love seeing your R2 astromech in your videos, keeps reminding me that i should probably build one for myself at some point.
You should!!
Loving this series.
Looks good. Just wrapping up the drywall in my basement. Next will be connecting all the outlets, speakers, and networking, then carpet and trim. Hopefully by June we'll have a great play/hangout space.
We used to use a gun-like device with a spool of fishing line to shoot CAT5 runs above the drop ceiling in office buildings. It wasn't a home made contraption, but an actual device sold for this purpose.
Great reinvention of the basement. Nicely done! Great family space!!!
Great video, but one thing I would do would be to have the down lights that are above the screen on a seperate switch so you can turn them off separately to the rest. It stops you getting light on your screen when you’re trying to watch something, but need the rest of the room lighting on.
Using the tiny RC car in lieu of a fish tape is probably the best thing I have seen in ALL of your videos 😂
Brilliant! What a cool dad you are!
Little Uncle Jesse and Bobby cameos. Great job on the basement and loved the hotwheels idea.
Should have preinstalled a piece of piping (pvc) in the bulkhead to act as a channel to run anything you needed easily. Or just run the cable before installing the panels…
Really cool - Inspired for sure...thanks for sharing.
Small note, for long runs in an open cavity a pro would use glow rods which are much easier to get through a space like that. Source: pro av installer for the last 10 yrs. Not to overly correct, but just to save some person in the future some heartache trying to fish a cavity like that. Crazy cool room with all your improvements!
One of the better "classy" ways to do RGB lights Is to move crown molding down from the ceiling a couple inches. You'd need some sort of bracing to keep it from sagging since it's not against the ceiling but when it's not on it just looks like a slightly different install of crown with a neat shadow line. The application I saw used a warm white rope light but the high density RGB strips that are common these days would work just as well.
Excellent series!
Really fantastic work, Bob! The place is looking amazing!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Watched it twice! The remote control car as a wire snake is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I will never wires the same again. 😂
The nerf gun wasn't a stupid idea there are commercial pull line shooters that they use for running network cable and the like in drop ceilings.
15:55 - could have used your laser level to mark everything out all at once instead of measuring.
That remote control car idea to run the line was smart!
Nice project - glad to see it come together in the end.
Couple of things. Love the change and how you leave in stuff that may not workout. Second as a former professional tv/projector installer you use what you can lol. I have used the fish tape to great success, but I have also used a thin ball chain with a really strong magnet on the outside of the drywall. My favorite though was using a baseball to chuck wire long distance through a drop ceiling.
Keep up the awesome work!
The J Channel can also be used with plastic siding on the outside of a house to from around windows as well.
Seeing bobbydukearts in ur vid was so exciting, I love both channels so much and the overlap just warmed my heart
Most safes have external contacts to power the safe from the outside, they are usually hidden behind a cover.
That little thing with the nerf gun and rc car was really funny.
I suck at drywall. It’s good to hear a pro has the same issue as me.
I love how excited you get when one of your "interesting" ideas works. Like using a Hot Wheels car to chase wires. 😂
Great job. And the Match box car is a stroke of genius. I like the blue strip you did when you first did it, and now, after the finished room, I like it more. Can I convince you to come and do my garage?
We rewired all the phone and networking in an office once and bought a commercial dart gun that had a fishing reel on it at local supply company. It was impressive how far and accurate you could shoot that thing up in a drop ceiling
I loved the vibe of this video, it was so fun to watch! And I absolutely loved the remote control car idea, brilliant!
The payoff is the hot-wheel moment! Brilliant!!
I truly love the fact that you used toys to problem solve. The Nerf gun idea was SOLID and the remote controlled Hot Wheels was absolutely genius.
Using a nerf dart or RC car to run cables isn’t too far fetched an idea. Electricians I used to work with would use string tied to a tennis ball to do the same in roof cavities!
Even the professionals sometimes use the more unconventional and fun solutions!
Thanks for always letting us in on your mistakes. Makes us all feel a little better :) Love your vids and your honesty, Bob!
Really cool space for the family!
You can pinpoint the moment when his thoughts went "Oh I'm a genius" when he pulled the rc car , love the creative thinking😂
Simple, but amazing. Best basement hangout I've ever seen.
I’m watching thinking… man I don’t think I would’ve done paneling and just framed and drywalled with some access panels. And then Bob says, yeah I should’ve done that. 😂 keep on keepin on Bob
It turned out awesome!! I live the little remote control car!
Really enjoyed this project series!
Missed oppurtunity to print a tpu couch with the giga. 😂
Ooooooh 🤔
@@Iliketomakestuffwhere’d you get the couch from?
I would recommend using aluminium profiles for led strips as opposed to plastic for heat dissipation. Without it they'll work for a little while but they'll burn up after some time
Great job the basement looks great
Love it!! 👍🏼👍🏼 Great job Bob. 🔥
The land cruiser as fish tape was great.
YAY! Gonna work hard on homework and this video will be my reward haha
Man, what a great looking space. 👍
A cool idea would to make your office window into a one way mirror. Like in interrogation rooms
Pulling a pull string along with the wires that you pull can really help out the next guy that needs to run cables. Often, the next guy is yourself!
Nice work Bob
Great video sir. I looked in the MORE section for the 50' diffuse led rope but did not find a part reference; what did you use, where did you get it? Terrific basement transformation. Thanks again for sharing.
"Neon" LED: amzn.to/3PWyanZ
I think the big problem with the J-trim was that you weren't able to add a diffuser. Glad you found a solution though.
Great work and some cool ideas for my own media room that i need to spruce up.....
Also, did i miss a video or an update - where's Josh and the rest of the crew? Haven't seen them in ages and you def could have used the extra hands here.....
Great work as always though mate, Cheers.
Thanks! It's just Forby and I now, everyone has moved on to new jobs and is doing well 👍🏼 We all talk constantly and get to hang out on a fairly regular basis.
@@Iliketomakestuff awesome! Well, still loving all you do.
Do you like beer? Keen to see your take on a home bar or kegerator? If not, whatever comes next I'm sure will rock!! Cheers
after watching this I've been inspired and I'm totally ready to start a similar project, there is only one thing I'm missing.... the basement
It's cool that you have a projector, but you forgot sound! Gotta have a nice Dolby Atmos setup down there to shake the walls good. 😄
I've got a JBL 5.1 setup in there. Same one we have upstairs and I love it 👍🏼
@@Iliketomakestuff Good! Everything looks great! I just started 3D printing an R2-D2, so I hope to add one to my fun space too. 👍
The safe would have likely been relatively easy to pick. Those circular keys can be picked relatively easily
How was painting that hardboard? Have a project I'm using it on right now (fully related to you wrestling that floppy sheet onto the table saw).
Did you rough it up with sandpaper to give it some tooth? I'm assuming a coat of kilz and a coat of paint ought to do the job.
2:18 I was hoping for a collaboration with Lock Picking Lawyer. Solid safe cracking nonetheless.
Holy cow! What a great drywall tip!!
You do NOT want to do this with a big peice like that. It should have been screwed into the studs. California patch is only a fast way to do a weak patch for small pieces that doesn't span studs.
back in the day i did alot of telecom work. i used a metal yoda keychain to snake the walls. worked great
Make a lengthy bit of pipes looking like inside a star cruiser
HI Bob, I have been enjoying the new videos a lot bit was wondering about the rest of the team. I did enjoy them being in the videos.
It's just Forby and I now, everyone has moved on to new jobs and is doing well 👍🏼 We all talk constantly and get to hang out on a fairly regular basis.
@@Iliketomakestuff Thanks for the reply, Best of luck to all!
17:40 Always use the right toy for the job.
The best Bob is the Bob who is pleased with him self that the hot wheel car worked.
I want that remote control hot wheel 😂
the remote control hot wheel earned the like
"It's gonna be big and floppy and hard to hold up" - is that a line from 'The Office'?
Only thing I’d do differently is the dry wall patch. You could cut a 1 1/2” strip around the hole this way your patch would set in perfectly using less mud to fill it
You are truly the best Maker I've ever seen. Keep up the good work 😃👍.
That's VERY kind, thank you!
I maybe laughed waaaaaay too hard at the cable pulling techniques. Thanks for that. Much needed today.
A bit off topic of the video but, I am trying to find some in depth videos about setting up a lathe. Most of the ones I see these days are modern/variable speed and attached motors. Mine is an older Delta Lathe with separate motor and belts. I have had it since 1995, since my uncle passed. It has never been fully set up to turn anything. Any help/directions would be greatly appreciated.
way cool hotwheels rc car who knew ... love it
the RC Land Cruiser ❤
Pretty sick room!
I'm confused. Is he no longer "Bob" and does he no longer "like to make stuff"? 🤣 The car was total Bob. Loved the end where he said it has turned into a total hangout and get together area that everybody wants to be at. That's the best!!
i gotta say the bobby duke arts video cameo was great.
