I've never heard a more accurate and eloquent description of cars from the 80's than "they're basically vacuum powered cars, they suck themselves forward".
👁🕳👁
Ugh, chasing vacuum leaks
I always rip that air pump junk off on 80's cars.
@@avastyeescurvydogs I had a 83 Ford LTD 3, with a 3.8 v6. When I first got it and popped the hood, all I could see other than the air cleaner and battery was vacuum lines. I ripped all that crap out and it ran better for it.
Today I learned that carburetors aren’t necessary if you just point the fuel line at the intake
Cave man fuel injection
@@tarajoe07 no😂
All joking aside I am now very curious what would happen if you tried that? Find a garbage engine secure it and set a line up to do that.
@@creativematthew it would run maybe-ish under open throttle, and flood at idle. If all you want is high revs, it'll run!
@@creativematthew very highly doubt it would run. fuel drawn in thru carbs or injected is like atomized, without a super fine mist nonetheless no mist at all the fuel won’t be able to compress properly and heat up, and since it can’t generate heat from compression it can’t be ignited by the spark.
I love that the plates are different on the front and rear. 589FCY on the front, 717ZWM on the rear. It's fine.
car is so long it has to be registered in two different states

Years ago I paid $500 for a 1978. It had weeds growing up through the engine bay. It also at one time had an engine fire, but after some time and another battery it started. I just fell in love with this boat of a car. Fixed it up and dove it for 6yrs....but the frame rotted...and the rear bumper just fell off. There was nothing more I could do.
Im 16 years old, I just bought my first car! A 1967 Mercury Cougar! Im so excited to pick it up on Tuesday, just went and looked at it today.
@@everestsdriveway366 Congrats, expect to pay a fuck ton on repairing it lol! My first car was and is an 1985 RX-7 FB I love it so much lol.
Obviously people don't know what a boat of a car is. Try an LTD or Caprice from the same years
My first car was a 78 Tbird. Did fine for me. Protected me in a couple of wrecks.
@@0Synergy my dads first car was an 84 rx7 and he loves talking about it, today it's either scrap metal or still rotting away in a field somewhere in arizona
Having had a 1980 as my first car, seeing the headlights close upon start made me ecstatic. Was forever chasing vacuum leaks to keep them closed so it didn't look like One Eyed Willy after sitting for an hour.
I was actually about to buy a 1980 thunderbird for my first car as well, but the engine shook the whole car when I shut it off. :P kinda sucks, it was mint condition on the inside.

I’ve gotten free cars and boats.
My Uncle gave me his old pickup its rusty... but trusty

The first car I drove was a 1992 oldsmobile 88 given to my family for free, running and driving!
About the poop (in case someone was really wondering): the solids are processed biologically in what is called a "digester" (a big tank full of poop-eating bacteria). The result of the digestion is no longer "poop" and, when dried, makes an excellent fertilizer. For obvious sanitary reasons, farmers do not dump unprocessed human poop on the fields, but this digested organic material instead, which is biologically safe.
www.rpc.com.au/information/faq/miscellaneous/composting-toilets.html
Safe they say. MAD COW... Ecology's,, Been to Poop Plant's they are MC'NASTY. Fire log's.
Lol thanks for explaining it, was going to explain in a way shorter, cruder post lol
In my state we ship it down south to be incinerated in some poor folk's backyard.
In my parents town it’s processed somehow and added with wood chips. They give away for people to use as mulch in flower beds.
Never get tired of watching these old "gems" come back to life.
Apparently the vacuum on the headlights work. They closed when it started up! That's cool!
They look a little silly
Yup, they closed...
They may never open again, but hey...
@@gosportjamie yah I'm surprised that car fired right up
This car really isnt that bad its faded and it needs some body parts like tail lights but it seems actually very solid.
@@gosportjamie They are set to be open by default.
I love how the headlights covered themselves on the first start
Here is some possible reason for the blue gasoline, posted on Quora. "Aviation gas is blue (100 octane). Some branded race fuel is blue. Sometimes when you mix oil with gasoline for a two-stroke engine (say, lawnmower) the mix will end up bluish. And sometimes distributors will tint seasonal gasoline blends a certain color to allow stations to tell the difference between summer and winter gas."
I love Mook (I'm in the majority there) she's so easily amused and like a proper girlfriend she's not letting you get away with NOTHIN!! the part where she's standing there with the pitchfork head looking all evil is classic.
That was the same model as my second car. It was a fun driver, and really comfortable for trips. Mine came without a motor, so I dropped in a 351W/C4 with mild stall, then swapped to a high revving 302 later on.I learned a lot on that car.
Side note: turns out some of the ideas I tried on that car came from David Frieberger and Steve Dulcich, back when they were both fairly new to their careers.

I grew up around 1977-1982 Ford Thunderbirds because those were my dad's favorite cars to drive at the time. The years he drove these T-birds was from 1986-1999. He sold his last T-bird in 2000, after that he drove pickup trucks from then to the present time. I was 13 years old when he sold his '82 T-bird in 2000. I miss my dad's old cars!

They really need to have a Junkyard Digs car show. Only cars that people did a revival on. Plus they had to do the majority work themselves.
Had an uncle give me a 1980 T-bird for free.Cleaned out the trunk and found an old pair of jeans that had $363 bucks in the pocket.called him he said dont bother me so i did'nt.lol had the 255 V8
Damn bro, that's more money than I've ever had😂
There is always a soft spot in my heart for a foxbody T-bird
I love all Foxbody (1980-1988) T-birds!
Ones after this look better.
That is the twin to the one I had.. what a fabulous car, I did all the suspension, brakes, and it was great until the engine seals started leaking. I was in no position to fix them at the time, so I gave the car to a young fella and his wife. It had the 260, which was weak, but good enough for a cruiser. Such comfort inside, it was my 3rd Tbird, and probably my favourite to date.
The sound of that passenger window was like an effect from an old horror movie. Maximum Overdrive comes to mind.😆
In a world full of Kardashians...be a Mook.

I don't know whether it's because there is more space in the USA than the UK where I live, or things are cheap and disposable, but everyone has so much stuff, that they just leave out in the elements. I watch a number of these channels and its the same all over. Enjoyable as always.
This is the first video of yours I've seen. Can't stop watching now. You've increased my level of procrastination. Miss my '75 Cutlass.

Charles Bronson drove one of those in Death Wish II.
Good eye! I had forgotten that :)
Lotta joggers in them death wish movies!! Every one of them!!!
T-Birds are my favorite cars my first car was a 67,loved this video thanks guys, great job☮️🤗
This was an extremely useful video for me - I happen to have, parked in my garage, a very similar 1982 Thunderbird Town Landau. I also got it from a family member but it's been parked now for 20+ years. It has the smaller 4.2L V8 and every conceivable option offered. 49K original miles. Hope to start restoring it this fall, after I get my daily driver junkers running. Very instructive video, thanks guys!
You should post videos on you reviving it
sounds pretty badass ^
@@jesseshasteen8158 Man, it's a ton of work even without trying to document it on video. The carb has been rebuilt twice, and I'm fixin' to drop the the gas tank because it's full of rust and the sending unit just doesn't send...then there's the brakes, the shocks, the potentially bent valves...she's needy.
This is awesome stuff. Happy to see guys like Kevin making Roadkill like content FREE TO THE VIEWER on CZcams THE WAY IT SHOULD BE! We have also been inspired by shows like roadkill to create content and there is nothing better with messing around with old junk cars.
You and Derek at vvg are the best. Thanks for the laughs😂🔧
i like how the headlights just closed on start up. A bit of love and attention and that thunderbird is perfect for a drive :D
Love the old Fox body Thunderbird!! I had an 82 back in 84. I pulled the 302 out cammed it and Supercharged it. I had a luxury car that would haul ass!!! I've had 2 Birds. A 64 and the 82!!! Now I'm back to Mustangs!!!!
I see it has the anti-rollover wheel on top. Man I miss those things.
That's actually a 255, which is why the intake looks funny. A recurve on the distributor is about all that's worth doing to it. I'd offer to buy it but I'm halfway across the country. The 302 came back in '83 with a different body style.
The 302 was an option in 1981 and 1982.
Mook is cool.shes down for any chalange dirt or any thing she digs in.whst a greate trooper
Good looking T-bird and no paperwork, sad . Another good one from another Ford guy,and Family . Happy tomorrow, Tuesday, march 16,still snowing here in Nova Scotia. Blessings amen, amin.
That “blow by” could very well just be moisture in the oil cooking out.
And looks like the only V8 option for an ‘82 was the 255.
Yes, its a 255. Great lil torque motor, just don't expect it to run past 4500 RPM. You can get decent performance along with good MPG from this engine, just don't ask it to do more than that!
...I actually like the look of the '82's much better than those rounded "aero" 'Birds of '83 and later....
I had the 302 for my 81
Fords version of the 305
Benji Smith I’d say it was more like Fords version of the Chevy 262 V8 they put in the Monza for 2 years, that made a whopping 110hp.
When you watch a revival of a car you towed...
lol awesome.
Too cool, small world
Do you happen to know the history of the car?
Did u really tow this car

For about 40 minutes I thought they were taking the T Bird just to get the Wheelbarrow......lol
Love your videos. Found your channel from Cole the Cornstars.
Mom had a 78. We called it the battleship. Thing was a beast.
Man you are so lucky. Not only do you have a girlfriend that does this with you which is every guy's dream who likes cars, but you got an absolutely beautiful box style car for free. This is my favorite body shape of all time and it's a Ford and a Thunderbird and it's got a solid motor and the body looks to be in good shape. Interior looks good. All it needs is a little motor maintenance, little bit of cleaning and this thing is going to look real good. I wish somebody would give me a free car. I was born in 1982 and with this being an 82 man I'm jealous.
The wheelbarrow was a limited edition Minnesota hood ornament before he moved it to the roof:)
Love these cars getting revived and back on the road again. Keep it up guys 👍

Had a 1982 Ford Fairmont and a 1980 Fairmont, same chassis and body. Loved those cars, but they had the indestructible I-6 200. I knew you were going to be able to burn some rubber because I could do it with a 6 cylinder. Mook is great, love her, I wish my girlfriend was like her.
my first car was an 82 Thunderchicken with the 255 V8. Bought it when I was 14, fixed it and sold it before my 16th birthday. Fun car.
Here in Canada, poop goes to the landfill. For a few years I ran a rolloff truck and we had a contract with a local municipality. All the solids go into a (mostly) sealed “grit bin”. I’d have to pick it up and bring it to the landfill where they would kindly have a hole already opened up for me to dump in. As SOON as if was dumped they fill the hole over. ONE SINGLE drop gets on your clothes, you’ve assuredly ruined your whole day.
Silver lining… you have a very wide berth from any other motorist on the highway… one sniff and they all scatter.
that 3 wheeler is worth more than the car.
You'd be surprised
If that thing is under 150,000 miles. It worth more than the 3 wheelers.
I'd agreed with you if you said it is a fox body chassis but most people would use that car to build a street car.
That’s 100 LL AvGas you’ve got in the tank! 🤣
That is what I was going to comment. And to clarify, 100 low lead is aviation gasoline. It will run fine, but it will destroy catalytic converters. It also has preservatives so it doesn't go bad.
Yeah I was gonna comment that as well, Just finished 3 years at Tech school working with that stuff!
Todd Mason no wonder it runs so well.

It could be a 255, Ford's answer to government fuel economy regs.
You could be right !
Many 255s during those sweet years... fun lil motor though, just not a street strip.
If it's the original engine, it's a 255. For 1982, the 302 was dropped and the 255 was the only V8 offered.
I had a 255 in my 80 mustang back in high school. It leaked three quarts of oil a week, but it had this nice way of alerting you when it needed oil. All the lifters would start to clatter and slap, then you just dump in a few quarts of whatever was on clearance and it was good to go.
In 1982 the 4.2 liter (255 cid) engine was the only V-8 available. I think they also had the 3.8 V-6 that year as well.
