I have no idea how I missed this video last year. My first car memories are of my dad's 76 Monte. I eventually want to try and pick one up myself, good to see one running.

I must say, the guy who owned all these cars and trucks on this farm sure loves '73-'77 Monte Carlo's! I counted at least 4 or 5 of these beautiful Monte Carlo's on this property!

@@supercrew63 I wasted 38 minutes of my life watching through this video looking for a 71 or 72 Monte Carlo there's not any I can't get that lifetime back but I wanna point out to you the only gold Monte Carlo in this video was a 73 model those 73 through 77 monte carlo's the best use for them is bumpers for demolition Derby cars the 2nd best use for them is hanging headers out of the hood and making derby cars out of them however the 1st Gen. 1970- 72 monte Carlos those are worth fixing

I"m a fan of the 73-77 GM colonade coupes. I prefer the grand prix, but i would def like to have one of the monte's if I had space to store one. Some day I'll find me a 455 powered gp. I had a 350 powered one years back, but rust took her from me.

I've got to say I love the fact you guys are pulling all these beauties out and doing what you can to get them running again. Back before CZcams was a thing, my wife's uncle bought a house in Phoenix, AZ that had been abandoned. In the detached garage, literally under three feet of garbage, he found a 1977 Camaro Type LT. The home seller forgot it was there, but had a title for the car. I gave $200 and towed it home. A carburetor, some new plugs, a fresh battery, fresh gas, and an oil change made it a daily driver while I was in college.
The car was an Arizona car, so no rust, but the paint and interior were sun baked. I ended up installing fresh carpet and some swap meet bucket seats from a GMC Cyclone and had a great little car. In three years, it only let me down once when the coil on the HEI gave out. In the end, I sold the car for $1500 after I finished school, because I didn't need it. Now that same car, in the condition it was in would bring $6000-$7500. What a difference 24 years can make.
I really like that Monte Carlo. The color combination was beautiful. The car seemed to be well loved by the previous owner, who was probably rolling over in his grave, watching you doing silly burnouts in it.
my cousin worked for chevrolet and bought a 75 monte blue w white vinyl roof . Had it fir sale as he bought a new 76 vette. I wanted to buy the monte but didnt , kicked myself for not doing it. He got brand new chevys for 25% off sticker. those were the days
Yep, you know something is well loved when it's covered in poop, surrounded by trash, and in the middle of a building with 30 other cars that are also covered in poop and surrounded by trash. If they'd actually been taken care of these guys wouldn't have been there in the first place, thus the whole point of the channel.
Exactly what I thought, the man who lovingly cared for this Monte probably never once squeeled the tires much less did an extended power brake burnout.... more wear on the car for this video than probably its previous 45 years combined...

Posting this at beginning of this video. The Monte you're working on in this episode is a 1976. '76 had the coat of arms emblem in the grill and full tail light lens. '77 Monte Carlo the coat of arms emblem was a hood ornament, and the tail lights were 3/4 as tall as the '76 with horizontal bars.
The '75 was the last year of the round headlights. Once I see the the taillights and location of the trunk lock I can tell you the year of the gold Monte.
If I had the cash I'd definitely love to have those Montes. I had a '76 when I got out of high school. I loved it.

@@jeremyl1276 One way to tell the ''73 Monte (first model of the 2nd gen Monte Carlo) from the '74 and '75 model years at a glance is it's the only year that the trunk lock is below the trunk lid. '74 to '77 the trunk lock was in the trunk lid behind the coat of arms emblem.
I had a '76 Monte in high school also, back in 82-83. My dad would die if I bought this car and brought it over!

I loved those Monte's when they we're new and I love'm even more now. I learn something every episode , thanks for that. You've got a treasure trove of cars on that property, soooooo many cars that need some JYD love. Keep up the good work , peace.
I have enjoyed these vehicle revivals from that farm (just like I have enjoyed all your other ones). I hope the Pontiac Bonneville SSE is next to be revived as it was the highest Bonneville trim level in the 1987-1991 era and a fully equipped one had a crazy stupid amount of buttons in it for convenience. Also i hope the Lumina is revived, though you better hope it does not need any real engine work as the z34 has the 3.4l Twin Cam LQ1 which while producing at least 200hp (a respectable amount in the early 1990's for a V6) and was pretty quick but is a nightmare to work on. As for the the Buick Lesabres in the yard blowing white smoke or smelling of coolant. The head gaskets are probably fine. These engines (3800) while mostly bullet proof and reliable, suffered from two issues. The first was the lower intake gaskets. GM went cheap and used a plastic lower intake gasket (called composite by GM). Those tented to crack and coolant would get into the engine or the exhaust. Year later GM came out with a replacement gasket set that was metal and that stopped the issue (they should have used metal in the first place). The Series 1 and Series 2 3800 had this issue. The series 3 used the metal gaskets and had no issues. The second issue was that the upper intake on the series 2 would crack at the EGR valve because of the area always getting hot. The replacement upper intake had a metal sleeve in in the hole where the egr pipe went into on the intake and that fixed the heat cracking issue. i have done many of these intake gaskets and while it is no fun, it is far better then the 2.8l,3.1l, 3100, 3400 60 degree GM engine intakes. There is also the coolant elbow leak on these engines. GM had a coolant bypass going through the belt tensioner and the hoses were hooked up to these plastic elbows that cracked after a few years. I ended up replacing mine with metal aftermarket ones using new GM o-rings and that fixed the issue. Good luck and happy New Year

Worked on many of these. Most folks did not take care of these, just like today. Seen alot of camshafts worn out due to not changing oil or adding oil. If the average person had to do the labor on their cars I would bet they would start taking better care of them.

Classic junk
I remember a friend of mine let me drive his 1977 Monte Carlo and I didn't have a driver license at time I was 17 years old. I drove it on Route 47 in Sugar Grove very nervous. That was the first car I ever drove. Yes, 70's Monte Carlo was the popular one back then.
I'm so glad that gorgeous, distinguished, old gentleman of a car is running again. Can you imagine it washed? That paint is so perfect! I'm one of many here that have a soft spot for Monte Carlos in general. My family owned an '86 light blue navy-top for years. Originally my great-grandmother's, it was a comfy two-door tank that unfortunately wound up getting stolen right off my dad's driveway the ONE NIGHT he didn't put it in the garage when I was a teen. It was found, but stripped of its seats and wheels and seated on bricks.
I freaking love the look of that Monte!! My dad was a Monte freak & he would have picked it up no questions asked, but I literally have nowhere to store it or I'd pick it up just to keep the Monte Lampe family going. Thanks for the great content & keeping me thinking on what I want to do when I get the money

They were absolute misery to work on. What should be a simple job like replacing the alternator was a huge, time consuming pain in the ass. The o-ring on the oil pump drive always leaked. Requires cylinder head removal in order to replace a 10 cent o-ring.

Awesome content. My sister owned a gold/bronze colored 73 Monte Carlo. A two door land yacht weighed a few tons, but on snow would move an inch.. It had those swivel front bucket seats.

I inherited a 76 Monte Carlo, 305 2bbl a few years back that had been sitting for about 8 years. 52,000 original miles from the old lady who bought it new in late 1975. No matter how long she sits a little squirt of fresh fuel and she fires right up, every time. Other than some Florida rust around the normal places it's a fantastic old ride. Enjoyed the video.
All these old cars with carburetors, will ALWAYS fire right up no matter how long they've been sitting ! One of the reasons I still have one 😁

Just a quick note Kevin, the 400 small block used only two bolts if it was equipped with the 2 barrel carburetor.
Those 75~77 engines were factory tuned so lean, that just not having a functioning accelerator pump was just too much for them. Hell, I remember them stumbling and stalling upon the slightest acceleration while being brand new. I also remember the ultra "stanky", and rancid smelling super lean exhaust smell coming out of the catalytic converter. Which, I would not be surprised if it were all clogged up by now. One of Chevy' nicest cars. A truly unpolished Gem!! Also yes, it most likely has the more modern and larger Chevy 2 barrel, held on by just 2 bolts, with the thick phenolic gasket, and with, (wait for it!!!), sealed off idle adjustment needles. Not adjustable by the mechanics, (unless you break off the aluminum plugs covering them). If you really want to help it, please put the accelerator pump on in and while you have the top cover off, do the old gal a favor, and go up 2 o 3 thou. on the main jets. Trust me, she will reward you for it!!
I've had several Monte Carlos , a 76 bought new, a 75 that I swapped a 750 Yamaha for, a factory high performance big block 454 73 Monte Carlo, a 77,79, and an 80 and all the early small block models had to Rochester 4 bbl quadrajet carbs . It wasn't until 1987 that Chevy started with throttle body injection small blocks. I grew up in the 60s and 70s and those tbi carbs were either great or they sucked , no in between. It was just cheaper and easier to bolt on a good Holley 4bbl , tune it how you drive it , toss a shift kit in the old turbo 350 and you had yourself a respectable street ride. I even knew a guy that took a short bed Chevy 4x4 frame, put a 4"lift on the suspension, 4" on the body, mount a 75 monte carlo body on it, 38" gumbo monster mudders and it was the most kick ass Monte Carlo around . Ah the good old days when a 70 ss Camaro cost about 1500 bucks used and $1200 would buy just about any make of 4x4 beastie that you wanted to play in the mud with.

I love older Monte Carlos. Use to own a 1979 and it was a great car to hot rod. Took out the 305 and placed a 383 stroker in it with a 12 bolt rear end. One of the fastest cars I ever owned. Hopefully you can get the other Monte Carlo running.
1979 is not the same body style as this 1976 model...it ran '73-'77. Changed in '78
This is what I was waiting for!! I been wanting to see this Monte get revived since I saw it in the backround of the first orange and white truck revival. I thought that car was blue but I really like the way that green looks and I can't wait to see it at least washed up to see if it still has some shine left in it. Pretty cool burnout even though the car isn't running as it should.

I had a 77 that I bought new. It had a powerful?, 305 V-8, which felt like an underpowered cow. It was well optioned, and provided a smooth ride.

wow that brings back memories! had a 73 monte, wrecked it. then bought a 74 next and drove it to death, 3 trannies an 2 motors. 60 years old now and still love them.
This 1976 green Monte Carlo was purchased new by me in North English, Iowa from Sauter Chevrolet. We drove it about three years and I sold it to Bob Hervey, who kept it forever. He used to drive it to town to show me how nice it looked and ran. I believe it was his favorite Monte Carlo. I loved this car.

I had a 75 , and brought it in for an inexpensive alignment . The tech showed me why an alignment wouldn't work without changing some parts and because that front end is designed by Mercedes Benz it was going to cost 500$ .
That was 1983 prices .
She did drive like a dream afterwards.
I only paid 500$ for the car to begin with so for a grand that car was worth twice that much in those days .
I saw my brother flip a 72 and live through it with only one scratch .

I love those old Monte Carlos. It's one of the cars I learned to drive in back in the day and also my first repair.. I was like 14 and replaced the alternator. She was a Buckskin colored 1977..
Many years back I asked my dad about the wrenches that went into the 32nds. He told me the reason for them was they fit the metric sizes better than the 16ths if all you had was SAE. They disappeared fairly quickly, as it was cheaper to just make the metric tools.
