I owned a te150i and a te300i. The 150 was a great bike for learning the clutch and finding my balance but it got progressively harder to get better on. Before I owned either Husky I had a KTM 200 and that bike was my favorite thing since waffles.
Man, I love watching you ride. You make it look so easy. Flawless. I look like a tornado trying to stationary balance on my trials bike. You barely move.
I have a 22 200 race edition, what you gain in fun and rideability over the 300 is great as an intermediate rider... Really feels like you are able to use the potential of the 200 but you have to stay sharp on gear selection and rpm, especially in technical riding. A great all round bike for the average rider, it really raised the fun factor coming off a 300.
@@bbarker5766 I think that knowing the reason why did he/she decided to get both is useful... I find it hard to believe that there's no good reason for getting both
Finally! Great job and review. Love my 200rr. It's WAY more fun than my old 300, and more than capable than me. But maybe more importantly, it's easier to ride and I don't get fatigued as quick as my old 300. The ONLY time I wish it had more power is above 10,000+ feet (Which I rarely ride). Looking forward to more 200 and small bore videos. Especially a 200 vs 300 lap times. You should have a lower skilled rider do that also. I think I'd be faster on my 200 than a 300.
Great to see acknowledgement of the smaller bore bikes. Its not clear cut advantage to 300 in all conditions. Highly anticipate more vids on comparisons on the small bore and vs the 300. Great job.
Rich, i've been following you for some time and you've helped develop my passion for technical riding. You would do the community a great service by getting that small bore shootout done. Maybe include a YZ125x. Cheers!
Good talk, Rich. I'm tall and heavy and I've got a KTM 350 excf which I still cannot wheelie. But I'm getting there! Too much other fun stuff in life, I need to focus. And yes, I will keep shredding .. once I learn to do that too. Awesome stuff, keep it up. Cheers from Sweden.
As mentioned elsewhere a 200 vs 300 video would be quite interesting. Adding B and C class riders to the test would really help us mere mortals in relating to how these bikes compare. As an older rider who still loves technical terrain I fully admit my 300 can get away from me at times as the power far exceeds my requirements in most situations.
I backed down to a sherco 250 I do miss my 300 when racing the young guys but I'm 60hrs in and it hasn't bit me yet... with plenty of opportunities. Smack a tree and open the throttle all the way it still stays under me. Same goes for some killer hill climbs. The 300 got me quite a few times and made me way more tired just from the extra torque.
@woodysrockspyro6436 Agree with your thoughts Woody. I'm not in peak shape nor haven't ridden most of your life, my 300 had me fatigued in 30min. On the smaller bore bikes I can focus on technique and just have more fun. That was a tough pill for me to swallow but now I'm over it and enjoying the ride so much more.
Arrgh! Jonny Walker and now Rich Larson! You guys are gonna cost me another twelve grand! Love my big bore Yamaha WR 450 and my new 2023 Beta 300 RR, now I’m hurtin for a light weight 200. The dead spot is probably just a jetting issue that should be easily resolved . Yeehaa! Variety is the spice my friends! Thanks for the video Rich!
Defo need to see that in the future ! I am currently running a exc125 (old) and a Beta 125 racing. Both excellent bikes even if very different. The one issue I find with small bikes is on big steep and long hill climbs (or shorter with no run-up) where it can be a bit more complex to keep the steep as you are missing the HP to do so. You need to make it up with momentum but sometimes it isn"t enough. Other than that I love the light one finger clutch, and coming from DH Mtb those bikes feel very much like my Mtbs so I love them.
I sold my 2016 300 race edition to my buddy last fall. We were talking the other day and I told him if I was to buy another it would be the 200. Haven't had the chance to ride one but with all I've seen about them, they look like a solid choice.
The 300 vs 200 beta shootout would be very interesting given that the quality and consistency of your riding should then highlight exactly how the bikes compare.
Rich so glad you gave your opinion on the 200. I rode a 2004 KTM 200 for years but it was an odd year as very light switch power. I recently purchased a 2020 Sherco 250se factory, and I love the suspension and luggable power, but it is a heavy and tall 250 two-stroke. So I am very interested in the Beta, being a shorter and older rider. Hoping to ride single track trails into my 70’s. Any additional info you provide is very much appreciated. Love your training videos and your bike opinions. I would like to see a 300 to 200 comparison. Thanks again.
I love my 22 beta200! It surprises me often with how it lugs up hills and gnarly terrain that no other small bore could… you need to do a small bore shootout!! That would be awesome
I ride a 98 KTM 200exc with an fmf gnarly pipe, flywheel weight and 12/50 gearing, I love it, I ride mostly slow tech like creek beds and have never felt in need of more power. One big advantage is through different clutch springs, spring spacers and a 9mm master I have been able to get the clutch pull down to 6lb's which is amazing, it almost feels broken it's so light, never get arm pump in the hard stuff on that bike.
I have the 17 300rr and 23 200 race. Granted it still has the new bike smell but I look more forward to riding the 200 again. 200 very capable and less fatigue. I’m pretty much saving the 300 for organized dualsport rides that include connecting road sections. I’d love to see you do a lap time comparison between the 2
Yeah a small bore shootout would be sweet! I personally have spent quite a bit of time on a Beta 125, in which is way fun to ride and really makes you earn it, whether you are shredding the gnar or opening it up on some open single track. But either way it’s gets the job done.
As a fan of the old Kawasaki kdx200 and 220 I can relate to the small bore feel and the fun factor it brings. Would love to see you comparison test them
Im with you, i have only just parted with my dt200r which i would often take out on my enduro rides over my beta 300rr. I only sold it because it was getting knocked around and was hard to get oem parts. I may need a 200rr.
I have two kdx's an 87 and an 02. I love them both but the old air hammer at almost 30+labs lighter is my hard enduro rig. Thinking the grass was greener i bought a 2021 yz250x and haven't touched it now since December 2021. I kick myself daily for not looking into a beta 200 or reiju 200 ranger. Loved the video rich... Keep em coming.
Rich your skill in technical stuff is mind boggling. I know it takes lots of practice over years to ride like that, which l am not willing to practice because l love the excitement of speed and don't have that much technical stuff in my riding areas. I also have a Motocross bike without electric start.
I've been eyeing the 24 EXC150 as my next bike...I ride tight tech mostly and my 2018 TX300 is awesome, but its a big bike in tight stuff...so yeah, very keen on the small bore shootout!
I've been riding Beta 300's since 2015 and in 2022 I got 200 Race edition. I love the light lively feel of the 200 and would not like to trade that for some off idle lugability of the 300. I weigh 160 so that helps the 200. If I weighed more, probably a 300.
If you could. I think a beta 300 xtrainer review would be a fire review. Everyone underestimates the bike yet it's powerful. Basically it's like a mix of the 300 and 200
The bike just felt lazy especially when I started lugging and then needed more throttle. Checked the spark plug and sure enough it was black. I used the jetting table in the users manual and ordered right sizes and the "dead zone" is way less noticeable and spark plug is nice and golden brown now. The list of mods: dented the radiators to get a tighter turning radius, pegs that are lower and to the rear, 9mm clutch pump and after market clutch discs since I had the "squeal" which could be heard on hard launches for long climbs with very little run up. Also I use 13/49 sprockets and tried 12/49 but since the gearbox seems to lave lower ratios it was useless on long and loose climbs. Overall I am glad I went with this bike for now.
Great review as always Rich. I was able to ride a 200 rr at demo day and was totally stoked on it. Light and with a surprising amount of grunt. Had to ride in the higher R’s but it made it fun! The 200 is an excellent transition for kids moving out of an 85 2t or 125 4t once they are tall enough and heavy enough to need a bigger bore. My son is on an ‘03 KTM 200 I picked up after trying the 200 for myself. He loves it.
I have a ‘98 KTM200 from new. This being the smallest of my four Kato’s. I just can’t part with it…so rideable, so much fun. KTM should not have given up on the 200! Definitely would like to see a small bore comparison.
I had the 2022 200 RE loved it but HAD to get rid and go back to the 300 because clutch problems… Beta UK even had the bike back but couldn’t seem to fix it, ONLY happens when you were HARD on the clutch riding EXTREME which I was shocked to see what you was riding … 😢 when they replace the clutch I will love to go back to the 200
@IRCTireUSAMoto As always, another awesome video in this channel! ;) For hard enduro stuff, lots of riders have the same question... what is the difference bettween 200rr vs xtrainer 300?? Off couse apart from the technical specs, how do they behave in techical terrain?! It would be nice to see you riding a xtrainer and compare it to the 200rr! Especially with that 200rr, since its has the lowboy kit. Meaning it will be closer to the the xtrainer in clearence and we could see the difference bettween engine and manobrability... Hope you can get your hands on one xtrainer!!
Brilliant I have been considering the beta 200 over my 300 for some time now. Jonny Walker proves your point Rich. Great review thanks …..bring on the shootout 🔫🔫
I have a beta200 & a KTM150tpi. The beta's motor has great torque at low rev's but Ive had some issues pop up. The 150 has a tsp ecu, the bike appears to be more refined...Clutch/Ability to not stall/Design/layout/Durability/Generates similar torque at mid to upper revs. It also double blimps logs better, the motor revs up quick and the tpi/tsp holds power well without stalling. Just what Ive noticed. Looking forward to hearing Rich's perspective!
I ride a '23 YZ125x is some gnarly east coast mountain singletrack and love it. Has all the power I need. I do not ride hard Enduro per say, but very tight technical singletrack
I'd love to see a small bore shootout! I spend most of the time down low lugging single track stuff and no way do I use all the 300 power. Still, would love to see more on the smaller bores.
Yes sir!!! A small bore shootout would be awesome! Beta 125 & 200 RE's, Sherco 125, KTM/Husky 150, TM 125 & 144, YZ 125X, Rieju MR 200 & Ranger 200, then if possible get your hands on an older KDX 200 to see how it compares!!
Hey! I've been enjoying your channel, and getting good info out of it. On the subject of small bikes, I have an old DR125 and it has 12hp. I'm wondering is that enough HP to learn the slightly more advanced techniques like wheelies, front wheel lift, and double blip, etc?
I really like this bike i wana purchase it but its outa of my price range these days. Really looking forward to that small bore shootout u wana bring to us in the future
The 200's are intriguing, especially in specific riding situations. I jumped on my friends KTM 200 and rode it for a while and it had pretty good lugability. I think for having one bike for everything, the 300 is still king. Being able to lug it down on a hill climb when you may get off line and then having the juice to roll on the throttle and finish the hill still on the pegs is really nice. I know a top rider could do this on the 200 but it's probably more achievable on the 300 for most guys. In Hawaii, it is so slick sometimes, the lug of the 300 really helps. That and a Kenda Knarly 140 at zero PSI, haha.
I ride a well sorted KTM 200SX set up for woods. Most of my riding buddies are on 300s and I've never felt like I needed more bike. Also having ridden most iterations of the KTM 300 I've found few that I would consider trading my 200 for.
I like what I see here! Good review as the video riding part makes up for the shorter time. I'm 5'6" with a 27" inseam, so do the dealers charge xtra for the lowered bike I'd need??
You should try the Reiju 200. Just rode one a few weeks ago and although the last time I rode a Beta 200 it was December, the Reiju felt a little stronger from what I remember. Seat height is similar to my Sherco 250SE Factory with a factory low seat. The Reiju has the KYB suspension as well. I really liked it.
Unfortunately the Rieju 200 is unavailable in Spain. I plan on buying a Rieju 300 as I will only purchase a bike with KYB suspension. I really liked my KTM 300 but dialing in the suspension was a mission.
I loved my ktm 200 and don't even consider a 200 a small bore. Ive one desert races on them and ridden the gnarliest trails around never felt like I needed more
The small-bore shootout would be cool. I've yet to watch or read anyone that hasn't been very impressed with the 200rr. I'm on the fence with the 200rr, 300rr and xtrainer for the spring. Getting away from a single do it all dual sport bike in favor of an adventure bike and woods scalpel. Trying to figure out which Beta...
I would love to see your take on a featherweight comparison. I am a C class Vet rider in hare scramble racing in the southeast. I normally race a yz250fx and rode a friends YZ125X on a trail and was blown away by the light weight and steering. I found after riding the yz125x it taught me clutch and throttle control better than anything I have ever tried. I noticed after riding the yz125 I was faster on my yz250fx. they are great training tools and a ton of fun.
I'm on a 250FX also, great bike. Got my 14yr old a used 22' KTM 125XC that had the 150 kit installed. Once I got the jetting sorted I find myself gravitating to the 150 for its agility. Compared to the 250fx it only makes power in a small rpm range but it sure is fun trying to keep it there.
Hi Rich, I have a 22 Beta 200rr in FL and a 22 KTM 250 XC-W in CT, totally different terrain so I enjoy both, but don't even try to compare them. I'm thinking about replacing the 250 (it's great) with a 2024 300 XC-W or a 2024, 200 RR Race, so I'm extremely interested in your comparison! I agree with your fun factor vs power theory and like you, I'm tall 6'1 but weigh 207 lbs w/o gear. I have a feeling the 200 can do the technical stuff great but am concerend that I might have to gear it low and that it will be screaming on road sections. Do The Comparison Please ( technical riding and on a track would be fantastic) Do it!!
I don't know, Rich. Your expertise would far outweigh my observations, but everything spoken about in this video points to the best solution for this type of riding to be electric. Reciprocating mass? None. Incredible bottom end and torque: unmatched. Light weight and flick ability? Got it in spades. I have taken my Electric Motion Escape on four hour rides of nastiness and it is an absolute marvel. Cutting through the forest where there are no trails to get through broken sections of established areas? No problem. No heat. No stalling. No problem. And that is all done with trials tires. Really the only downside I've experiences is that they aren't great over 35 mph. But you hardly ever do that in technical riding.
I know Yamaha’s YZ-X models are passé, but it’d be pretty cool to see the YZ125/250X compared to the smaller offerings from Europe. I know they’re missing an extra gear and hydraulic clutch, but is that such a disadvantage that I should overlook the price disparity and robust dealer network? Nearest KTM/Husky/Gasgas dealer is 4 hours away, and Beta/Sherco are both over 1000 miles away.
I'm an ex very competitive mx racer. I got in to scrambles/enduro and bought a yz250x. I did the must do mods such as apex head, governor mods, gearing, jetting dialed etc etc. It was still just "too much bike" for me in the tight technical stuff... It made hill climbs a laugh though. But, I bought a 200rr this spring, and immediately gelled with the bike out of the box, for the reasons mentioned in the video... It's easy to handle, no surprises, and the small size is a huge help. When I got the beta home and parked it next to the YZ I couldn't believe the size difference.
Hi there, as your saying there is a review of a Sherco SE 125 Factory? I do not find it. Insert a link for that please. I am interested because hesitating between 2 bikes as a beginner bike. The Beta 200 and Sherco 125. I am 5.5 tall and weigh 150 so a short light guy. I prefer light enduro and also like the motocross tracks. Obviously as a hobby. Wich one would you pick? Thank you very much for your work. Love your videos.😊
I currently have a 06 ktm 200xcw and had an 08 a while befor that and have always loved it but haven’t really had any time on at 250/300 to really know if I like the 200 more but it’s without a doubt very good

I fell in love with a 200RE today at a demo. And I'm a 4T guy!
Waiting for your new tests indeed!
Exactly! bImpressive bottom still like to be ridden in the High RPM.
Thanks for watching!
How does the power of the older KTM compare to the Beta 200?
@@video3dvd finally dialed it in and it’s on par with the modern 200 from beta.
I have a ‘98 KTM200 from new. This being the smallest of my four Kato’s. I just can’t part with it…so rideable, so much fun. KTM should not have given up on the 200! Definitely would like to see a small bore comparison.
Great review! You should do a 250 review as well!
Would love to!
My 2006 200XCW has been my favorite bike to date.
I had the 2022 200 RE loved it but HAD to get rid and go back to the 300 because clutch problems… Beta UK even had the bike back but couldn’t seem to fix it, ONLY happens when you were HARD on the clutch riding EXTREME which I was shocked to see what you was riding … 😢 when they replace the clutch I will love to go back to the 200
Thank you Rich!! I'm looking to get a 300 Beta in the next season. This 200 might just be a complement to my old beat on warhorse 498 Beta 4T.
It’s awesome! Thanks for watching!
You should definitely test ride both. I have a WR 450 and a Beta 300. Love em both. But now I’m thinking a 200 might be nice to have in the stable.
@IRCTireUSAMoto
As always, another awesome video in this channel! ;)
For hard enduro stuff, lots of riders have the same question... what is the difference bettween 200rr vs xtrainer 300??
I ride one today and it felt great immediately. Super light and manuverable.
🤯 my mind is in orbit.
Sweet video.
I'd love to see a small bore shootout! I spend most of the time down low lugging single track stuff and no way do I use all the 300 power. Still, would love to see more on the smaller bores.
+1 for the small bore shoot out
I would love to see a small bore shootout
Hope to make it happen!
Bought that bike for my wife. I ride beta 250. After first ride I fall in love. Now I got 2 motorcycles my wife can ride bicycle 😂.
Love my 200 Racing!!! Best bike I've owned!
Liking my Reiju Ranger 200. Coming off a couple different 250s.
A small bore shootout would be awesome.
I ride a well sorted KTM 200SX set up for woods. Most of my riding buddies are on 300s and I've never felt like I needed more bike. Also having ridden most iterations of the KTM 300 I've found few that I would consider trading my 200 for.
I’m 140lbs but enjoy hard/soft enduro. I may look into this. My 300 feels like a tank! 😂
What 300?
Ive one desert races on them and ridden the gnarliest trails around never felt like I needed more
I test rode a beta 200 race a it was a heap of fun.. i ended up getting the sherco se300 but i would love one of each..
I'm thinking about replacing the 250 (it's great) with a 2024 300 XC-W or a 2024, 200 RR Race,
so I'm extremely interested in your comparison!
I love my 200rr! I have a heavily modded 19’ not a bike out there I would trade it for.. looking forward to your shoot out vid
I think the 2024 ktm 150 xcw would be a great bike to test because it has the new TBI system. You could compare that to the TPI
I agree! be a great comparison
XTrainer review!!!
300 sherco and just got 22 200 race. I love them both. 200 makes me up my game and work clutch/throttle fundamentals more
Very true!
Not sure I would swap my 300 for one but I do want one to play on... No doubt!
Tough one! I need both haha
thats my dream bike. can you also test the ktm 200? its kinda old now but its my plan b because of money...
Please include the Rieju mr ranger 200 in the small bore shootout if you can get ur hands on one!
Likely the only 2 stroke I'd give up my '18 Husky TE250 for.
SMALL BORE SHOOT OUT ... YES YES YES
I would really like to see the small bore shoot-out. I'm in the market for a small bore.
I would like to see a comparison between the 200RR and the X Trainer. they seem to be quite similar.
Throw the 250RR RACE into the lap time comparison as well please. Seriously over looked its the best of both
I don't know, Rich.
I’m 5’3 and rode my 200 stock 5 times before having beta lower it 2”. Still works great and I can still hit the woops at speed. Great bike.
Have you put the ( lowboy kit) from Beta?
@@adilsonpissinidico yes, I sent the suspension into beta with my weight and riding ability. I highly recommend it. How tall are you?
Beta did the factory 2 inch lowering kit on it. everything works great
@@adilsonpissinidico
In my altitude less than 1000 feet, I use the Suzuki needle in mid position to clean up that area you mention.
Which one, NECW? NECJ?
@@IRCTireUSAMoto NECJ (the NEDJ is a half clip richer) but mine with a 38 pilot and a 170 main runs crisp and clean from idle to screamin.
I currently have a 06 ktm 200xcw and had an 08 a while befor that and have always loved it but haven’t really had any time on at 250/300 to really know if I like the 200 more but it’s without a doubt very good
I think we need to see that shootout.
