  • Can Rice Save A PS Vita Dropped In Water? - Extended Version - In this video I'll be working with two different PS Vitas, one from a viewer who said they found it in a storage unit, and the other from a seller who said they dropped it in water and put it in rice to dry. Let's take a look inside these consoles and see what we need to fix. Between these two consoles we will for sure have a lot to work on!

    I love you videos. You have inspired me to try fixing electronics instead of just simply tossing them. I am a cancer survivor and had one of my lungs removed and I can’t do anything physically so sitting at a desk trying to breathe life back into something feels right. I hope to one day have half the knowledge and patience you have at fixing these things. Thank you so much

      I am with you, no more tossing anything. I may never repair them myself but this channel has taught me even broken electronics have value to someone, might as well sell them if I am not going to fix them. I also want to get in to repairing my own BUT I will be happy enough if I learn how to solder.

    I always did basic and minor cleaning for my consoles and controllers such as taking the shells off but watching him inspired me to try and start my own cleaning and refurbishing business via these videos he's been there for me in hard times such as when my dad died in 2021 my dad was the main supporter of my hobby turned dream and when he died I all but gave up but I continued watching these videos and it's keeping me going so thanks man for everything.

    There is a bad flaw with The PS Vita 1000 Models they require a Battery to turn on and plugging in a charger with no battery will not turn it on. That is a problem with 1000 models because when the battery drops below a specific charge you get the "Orange Light of Death" which means a Orange Blinking light when you try to charge it and it goes nowhere and does not charge. Sometimes just plugging it to charge will bring it back, but a few times it does no charge and you need to jump start the battery before it can charge.
    The best way to try and fix it is to try to enter Safe Mode (When charging Press and Hold the R button + PS Button + Power button) and it will force it to try to turn it on and will usually show an empty battery symbol on the screen and then leave it to charge for a while. For me it usually always turn on. If after that it still does not charge then the battery needs replacing.
    This trick worked on all my PS Vitas that had this issue.

    • @lemming9984
      @lemming9984 Před 14 dny

      I have three oleds, and if I leave them for too long and the battery dies, I do get the blinking orange light. But after about 10 minutes the light stops blinking and it charges perfectly.

    • @proxyhx2075
      @proxyhx2075 Před 14 dny

      @@lemming9984 That's a non-issue basically. The blinking light lets you know that the battery level is too low for it to power on.
      But at least it's taking a charge like it's supposed to.
      The real issue is when it doesn't take a charge because of severe overdischarge (e.g. the user storing it away on a low battery level would cause this). No lights, no signs of life, nothing.

    I deal with a lot of batteries (repair also electronic stuff). You can kinda "by feel" see if the battery is good, but its better to buy a tester tool that is capable of charging and discharging the battery to assess the health. The best ones will give you a capacity reading (real capacity left) , internal resistance, self discharge rate, etc. W ith that you can determine if a battery is good, normally my standard is 90% or more of the original capacity and low self discharge rate is a good battery, otherwise to the special recycle bin.

      Not true, I've seen it work but the device needs to be left in it for days before any power on attempt. Silica gel works even better. I saved my ex's iPod that went through a washing machine by leaving it in silica gel for a few days.

    • @brake_4_cake
      @brake_4_cake Před 14 dny +4

      @@PJthePlayer Silica gel works because it is a desiccant. Rice is not. It was leaving it alone without attempting to power it on, not putting it in rice.

    A small tip from personal experience if I may...when testing the voltage of a lipo battery, lay the connector on a firm surface and NOT on the battery itself. I assure you bad things can happen if one of the probes slips and punctures the cell. Very bad things.

    Think about how much energy you have to put in to get rice when cooking it to get it to absorb water.

    the oled vitas had a number of nasty flaws with their battery system, its so bad that one of the big homebrew options baked into a lot of hacks is a reset switch for the battery manager and you can expect to have to leave it charging for up to an hour if its been left too long before it responds to anything

    Rice will not draw out moisture from electronics, it’s too difficult to reach. However, to prevent FURTHER moisture from getting in via adhesion from humidity in open air, it isn’t the worst idea. Being prepared to leave it off, examining it for shorts and potentially cleaning/repairing it is the best way forward…or just buy another one, whatever…

    • @iaincowell9747
      @iaincowell9747 Před 13 dny +1

      Rice is arbsorbent, but you are right it's unable to draw all the moisture out. Plus rice gets soft and sticky when wet, so there's a good chance that you will get Rice particles stuck in your electronic device

Btw this is not my main phone i just use it for how fast i ride on my bike.

    rice doesn't work, ever. never power up gear suspected of liquid damage. take out everything and inspect under a microscope. clean corrosion with ipa and redo contaminated solder, even if it's a bga chip. 3.6V equals 3.7V (10% rule). there's probably noise on the temperature signal causing the vita not to accept the battery. at least there's no logic on the battery that can lock it.
    You've got a lot of views. Please educate your audience wisely. Most of my game console repairs are from kids who think they know what they do because they watched youtube clips and own an ifixit set.
    This is an honest reply. I mean well for all your audience and their gear.
