I wanted to share something I just recently learned about spiritual abuse, a term called "trauma bonding" If I'm understanding it correctly, a person, elder or group of people will emotionally abuse, shame control you and then after you are recovering from the mistreatment, they "reassure" you of their love for you and they only "say and do these things because of their deep care and affection for you" !! It messes with your heart and your head, people cannot get free from these places and it distorts the Lord's character to people ! Maybe that's why Paul spoked the way he did Gal 1:8-9
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Yeah bro, when we left a church here, the leadership was teaching once they leave, never fellowship with them again, even to the point where our kids can’t even do play dates with other kids, crazy 🤪 and this spiritual covering is huge in Pentecostal charasmatic circles where I used to fellowship with

It’s crazy but common. Relationships completely sever when you stop attending that fellowship.

What a painful episode! But this needs to be exposed, thank you. This is "another gospel" Galatians chapter 1
Spiritual abuse! Which is one of the worst things a believer can experience. I have been more loved by co-workers (in my experience) than supposed Christians. We left a community that you so precisely described. You were expected to "drink the cup and shut up" take whatever was delved out by abusive leaders. If you disagreed or had (discernment) you were demonized literally and shunned, spoke of from the pulpit, shamed. And when you finally escape you loose all your loved ones who remain. And suffer shunning for years. "The emperor is naked y'all " we say to the family. But we remain rebellious outcasts. Sorry for going there, but still healing. We have NEVER experienced healthy Christian relationships in our lives, so you do walk away feeling "you are the problem" as you have been told all along. I'm thankful for your seriousness and your silliness, Lesa's Elmer Fudd impression ❤☺

Fear guilt and shame, that was what I felt - and it was my fault I felt like that. That’s what I remember, and my absolute failure. Trying and failing, trying and failing, it never stopped. In the end I failed to keep trying to go, and failed to be in the church. What a relief it is.

That’s not the gospel. We rest in the finished work of Jesus. Unfortunately the church doesn’t always reflect this reality.

Lord Jesus... I know it well. You ain't got nothing, lights off at home and you go up to that collection bucked and pretend to drop something in there. Lol! The roaring 20's. Harder times in some ways. I've gotten to the point where no one can make me feel bad about where I am, knowing where God has brought me from. Made it through the worst. But honestly, many of these organizations are not churches. They're just 501 (c)3's. They're in the business of church, but they don't have the Good Shepherd's heart.
