  • My heart and prayers go out to Gateway Church and all others across this country reeling from disappointment and betrayal from spiritual leaders. Keep the FAITH! There is HOPE to be birthed from tragedy and the dying of old systems, making way for the new. Only LOVE will remain.
"And now these three remain: FAITH, HOPE, and LOVE. But the greatest of these is LOVE." 1 Cor. 13:13

Sooo very true!!! I found myself looking forward to listening to pastor Morris everyday, I should have been reading His word and not waiting for pastor Morris to translate meanings behind them which could be skewed by his thinking!!
I found myself upset when he was talking about paying 100% for his own children’s tuition … where my children had loans and I’m tithing to his church??!!
I was also appalled that he considered the actions of a 12 year old Jezebel!
I wonder what it would be like if he thought back to his own daughter in her 12-year-old innocence!
And how he would feel if another man took advantage of her!
It’s so sad because we all suffer!

How did you feel about his teaching about tithing? How do you feel now? I know I just saw a video of his teaching that not tithing is "arrogant" and "stealing from God". I was a bit apalled at the manipulative language and "teaching" he did around tithing. It seemed geared to "guilt" people into tithing.

So what if a pastor said something like: If you have a matter that is the cause of any present distress between you and another, and have gone to that one first with your complaint against him and it has not been resolved, or if you are not going to do that for fear of either property damage or personal injury resulting from such an action, we have people you may go to, to take with you.
They are to be there for you, not to hear evil for the sake of evil, but only to hear matters of abuse that are the cause of some present distress, being willing to walk through things with you, verify facts as best as they can, pray with you, search the scriptures for the right way to go, being willing to do for you the same as for the other party, being willing to ask for mercy when mercy is due, for either party, without partiality and without hypocrisy.
However, if you don't want to make use of their service you may take anyone with you that you like, if you can find some willing ministers of reconciliation, who wish to walk in the fruit of the spirit of God and do the work of reconciliation ministry by the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Well, what might you think of a church like that? Have you ever been to one like that? If not, why not? Have we missed anything? Have we fallen short of what we should be as a church?
This world is full of offences that injure others. This isn't about exercising power or control over others. It's not about manipulation and control, and it's not about heaping heavy burdens on them either. Rather it's about easing the heavy burdens and setting the captives free, because of Jesus Christ. It's about healing and helping one another. It's about justice and judgment. It's about being delivering judges and reconciling ministers. I saw something like this in Job 29, Jer 22 and other places in the Bible. I hope when you read those scriptures that it does something to you as it did me. I think about how in the book of Judges, things went quite well when the judges ruled, but when the last one dies, well, that book ended in a lot of trouble, didn't it? So, God's answer for a time when people began to do whatever they wanted, was to raise up delivering ministers, judges, as he did, and he was with the judges in power and what a wonderful answer it was for Israel who was oppressed by the mass number of their adversaries at the time. Yet, for the number of the masses of the enemy God used Gideon and a much smaller number who had their light in earthen vessels.

  • @nextop81
    @nextop81 Před 23 dny +1

The only way out of this mess is in going forward with choosing the senior pastor for a church, their needs to be vetting done on the past history of the person and with that in mind the elders and members can choose who they appoint.

I don't know what kind of thoughts or questions arise for you all on this, but here are some of mine:
Was this something of decades past that has not been repeated for decades and if so, does it really have any bearing on today other than the fact that experience can be a wonderful teacher?
Is there anything he failed to do to help the victim of the crime that he should have done, and if so, is there anything that could or should be done today?
However, if a man has not been restored from a sin and if it has continued on, then that is a present-day problem, isn't it? So, which is it, a past problem only and nothing more, or is it a present-day failure?
Is it really God bringing a man down and out of ministry or is it from another source?
These are the kind of questions I have.
What if a pastor said something like: Well, you all know of a past sin of mine and the hurt it caused someone and I just want to tell you that if I was to continue to pastor, I will not be sexually molesting any of you or your children. Been there and done that and it didn't work out so well for me, and if you don't believe me, I would like to know why. Do you really think you would not be safe here anymore, and if so, why? Would you not feel safer here where a pastor would tell you that if he ever sinned against you, to talk to him first about it, and if he doesn't hear you to take one or two others with you and hold him accountable? That is what I would tell you to do. Now in an environment like that, would you really not feel as safe as in another church where the pastors have a top-level reputation? If so, why? How do you know people are not just hiding things there? If they are, why would you feel safer there? I'd like to know why. Is it because you think that certain sins are never really overcome, or that some of them are impossible to get free of? If so, what about the gospel itself? Is the power all gone? Is there no more power to overcome or not?
Should we really say, "Well pastor, everything you say is fine and good, but we can't trust you because of your past." Well, what about the apostle Paul who used to persecute followers of Christ? Well, he was converted so that's a different situation. Well, I suppose it is, but when does the past not matter anymore?
I don't know where you all go with your questions and concerns, but I have just shared some of mine.

I appreciate your comments. As a youth pastor that is probably going to be a senior pastor someday I wrestle with this. And if you have time I’d appreciate your response.
We criticize “mega churches” and “mega church pastors” and we say it’s not sustainable or that it’s too celebrityish if I may. However, it’s not like anyone just chooses to be a mega church pastor. It’s not like it’s an easy thing to do. Also it comes with a lot of work and growth. Also as Christian’s we want people in the Kijgdom, so why do we villainize when a church reaches thousands of people as gateway has. Don’t we want everyone to get reached?
Also when someone is a very gifted teacher as Robert was and they draw those types of crowds, what is a pastor to do? Tone down his ability? Is a church supposed to say, nope we’ve reached our capacity of 200 people, no more are welcome?
I agree that there has become something icky about the “mega church” but I also don’t see what the solution is for a pastor who wants to reach a lot of people with the Gospel, and also has the ability to do so.
We can’t just say that men who are too charismatic or too gifted can’t be pastors anymore because they may draw too many people.
Also people criticize Morris for his wealth. Well the man wrote a ton of best sellers. That’s hard work he put in. And it’s not like any pastor can just go write a New York Times bestseller or else every pastor would do it. He provides resources that people were willing to give him money for. That’s capitalism.
I say all that to say, what’s the answer for pastors and churches that have the ability to reach thousands of people but they also don’t want to fall into some of the traps and stumblings a mega church seems to provide.
Also let me just end by saying this isn’t a defense of Robert. It’s more questioning about church systems.

I went to Lakewood Church (Joel Osteen) for 19 years until 2020. I can say first hand that the whole celebrity thing (pastors and worship leaders) has gotten ridiculous. The churches have become so worldly now. The sermons are watered down (at best) and sometime heretical (at worst). They simply do not preach the full council of Gods word and actually take a lot of scripture out of context. It’s all about numbers and $$$.
The thing with the books has become ridiculous also. They are making millions off these books and many time have ghost writers actually writing the book. They live in multi million dollar homes and live lavish lifestyles. I do not believe this is the message of the cross nor what Jesus died for. Yes, they use scripture like in 3 John that we should prosper but this is bad doctrine. There is nothing wrong with working hard, being blessed and living a nice life but the mega church “system” as you say is worldly ( at best) and demonic (at worst) and is not true Christianity in my opinion. I call it Western Christianity.
They draw a lot of people but some of this due to the tickle your ears sermons, music and fancy buildings. How many are truly becoming disciples of Jesus rather than disciples of Morris and others.
When you say Robert or others are gifted teachers let’s look back to scripture. Was Paul, Peter or others “gifted” preachers. That should have nothing to do with it. It’s Gods word that we should be after and nothing else. Charisma should have nothing to do with it. Too many are being led astray because of this.

@@justbrowsing8675 I appreciate your response and completely agree about watered down teaching and tickle your ears sermons.
And to answer your question the scripture do mention those who are “gifted” to teach. Its in Roman’s 12, 1 Corinthians 12, and Ephesians 4.
And while i appreciate your sentiments. All you did was criticize the mega church but didn’t offer any solutions to what a church should do since we are called to reach people and make disciples. I feel like we tell pastors go reach the lost but if they are reaching too many people we criticize it and say it’s an evil mega church. I feel like we portray this message of reach people, just not too many.
