    Beautiful... I am a new gardener, and growing my own food interests me tremendously. This is one of my favourite foods on earth, In the Caribbean we call it '' Dasheen'' I am growing mine curently, it was an experiment, I simply bought one in the market and cut off the top part, put it in water until it grew roots, then I planted it out in the soil. It is doing well so far, I even saw a long yellow flower on it this week. I wanted to know how to propagate it to get more plants, because they are really expensive here... My grandmother told me yestreday, that when you see the offshoots, just dig it up and plant it somewhere else, and before you know it, you will have countless plants. I now have 6 Dasheen plants from that 1 I planted months ago. I am so pumped to plant more this way. I love this video. I have learned so much.

    Right on! I get some 2. I get iliuaua. My ula ula kumu mated with another native green ha variety I forgot the name. I had them both in the same laoimakamala when they flowered. The Ha of the green ha one after I when huli um now are reddish kind of like the ula ula kumu… curious to see if the newly regenerated variety going form keiki from runners or grow directly from the corm like the ula ula kumu.

    How does the yield go growing in the pots? I read that they don't produce well.
    Thanks for such detailed instructions. First time growing and growing in half cut 44 Gal (200ltr) containers (22gal, 100ltr each).

      you can grow kalo well in pots if the pots are large, like the ones you mention. kalo is a heavy feeder so dont be shy on preplanting preparation. Lots of broken down mulch, house hold compost (broken down), well broken down manure and daily watering will result in best growing of kalo

      @Haloanakalaukapalili  Před 2 lety +2

      if you plant the makua, often times get pua. or if the soil doesnt have nutrients, the plant flowers in hopes that the seed takes and the plant genetics can live on.

    i grow taro here in chicago, yes that's right all the way here chicago!
    grow it mostly for leaves to make a Gujarati dish called Patra (taro leaves, wrapped with a batter of gram flour, palm sugar, green chiles, and spices) and also for the stems which are used to make a fresh pickle to eat with lentils.
    @15:00 - @16:00 that's really interesting, i'll have to see how that works out in my garden next year.
