    What's up you guys!
    Thank you so much for clicking on this video!
    Today is a VERY special video.
    The first ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY video on our channel!
    You all have asked and we have answered!!!
    Let me start off by saying, THIS IS WORTH THE WATCH!
    In today's video, we chat with Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, Taylor Downes. She is a newly graduated sonographer who has so much information and advice to share with you all. Whether you are an echo student/cardiac student, a general sonography student, any kind of student, or a medical student... her story will touch lives and help others. She came from a non-medical background. You definitely need to listen to her journey! She gives advice, tips, and explains what she does as a Sonographer on the daily! There is so much to learn about echocardiograms that many do not know about! I hope you find this video helpful, I hope you are motivated and inspired, and I hope that you support her on her new journey that is just beginning! Don't forget to add her on instagram or Facebook, like this video, and comment down below if you have any other questions! She would be happy to help! Also, consider subscribing to the channel to become a part of the SonoGes family! So happy to have you here. Keep on researching. Keep on learning. Be kind to one another and stay PAWSitive! XOXO, Ges.

      @@dianagomez2405 I graduated with a bachelor degree in sonography since I completed 4 years of college prior to applying so I have two degrees, one being in biology. That being said a handful of my classmates had an associate's, which means they only completed two years of college prior to applying to the program so they now have a certificate in sonography.

    Take good care of yourselves. I've been doing echo for over 28 years. The chronic repetitive motion injuries are real. I love my job, I've trained so many students, new hires, taught in a classroom setting, and a lab. It is a rewarding job, but please, please listen to your preceptors. Try to practice the best ergonomics that you can, have others sneak up on you to check your ergonomics.

    Hi Geselle & thank you and Taylor for this video. :) It gave me a bit of an insight on echocardiography. So the college closest to me is only offering concentration in cardiac and I’ve always wanted to do general. If I were to go into cardiac and get certified, how would I obtain my OBGYN credentials?

    • @lolgeselle
      @lolgeselle  Pƙed 3 lety +2

      Hi naturalshae!! Yay that’s awesome you have a school near you! I have a video coming out on this topic, next! So please stay tuned for it! It talks about registries and how to get registered. You can get your OBGYN credentials if you find someone else in that field with that registry to teach you OBGYN. Your best bet though is to do general then cross train into echo. But unfortunately this process is different in all states, so see what programs offer and decide based on that!

Definitely need to find someone who knows what they're doing to help you, maybe a classmate.. but hopefully you will have a better luck with clinical! Cause that's where you will learn a majority of your skills. With stress, take it one day at a time. Be kind to yourself. Know you are only still learning and control your mindset! You can do this! I’m interested in going back to school for echo sonography. I’ve been out of the workforce for over 4 yrs since I had my baby and we moved overseas. (My husband is active duty military) I was a research tech at a biotech but after 3 yrs felt that research isn’t for me.. too slow paced plus didn’t get paid very much. I was a biochem/cell bio major. How rigorous is the program? There are a couple of programs near me (I’m in northern VA) but one is a 4 semester long program and other is 7 semesters. I’m a mom of 2 (9 yr old and 4 yr old) .. is it too much to handle if it’s only 4 semesters? Thanks for any advice you can offer

    Is it super hard to do anatomy and chemistry in one semester through virtual learning? Or is it nearly impossible? What study tips you recommend with virtual learning?

    • @lolgeselle
      @lolgeselle  Pƙed 3 lety +3

      Anatomy and chemistry together in one semester will truly test your study skills, especially with virtual learning. I’d say if you’re good at learning on your own, teaching yourself, in my opinion you could possibly do it. But anatomy and chemistry are both difficult classes and for me personally, I would keep them separate especially with virtual learning because I need someone to explain it super well to me. Ask yourself if you think you can handle it.. hopefully your professors are super helpful and you’re able to handle virtual learning. I just know I wouldn’t be able to, knowing what the classes entail. (But that’s just me!)

    • @lolgeselle
      @lolgeselle  Pƙed 3 lety +3

      Study tips- definitely focus. Find a spot where you’re not distracted by anything. Keep the phone away/ stay studying as much as you can but in little increments. Our brains can only handle and retain so much information. I like to take little breaks in between studying. Also watching videos that explain things personally help me!

    • @lolgeselle
      @lolgeselle  Pƙed 3 lety +2

      @@Anonymous-bc6zl unfortunately I totally get what you mean about being alone. I’d say try to find people in your classes that are willing to help you study and communicate with them to see if anyone wants to create study groups. You’re all in this together. I also have a discord community where students talk to each other on the daily. The pandemic definitely has made things more difficult, but it is still doable! Believe in yourself and work hard. Which one is easier to study, general or cardiac? Which one is easier to work as?

    • @lolgeselle
      @lolgeselle  Pƙed 3 lety +3

      Honestly, they both are a LOT! People tend to think cardiac is easier because it is one organ, but that one organ does a LOT of things! Haha. As far as "easier" goes, echo and general both have their pros and cons. I love general. I'm sure if I learned echo I would love it too. But they both have their difficult days, difficult patients/ scans.. so it's really, do you want to scan the heart all day? Or would you rather scan a bunch of different exams?

    • @tajhagrady4055
      @tajhagrady4055 Pƙed 3 lety

      Totally agree, sometimes I hate constantly looking at the heart all day, the other sonographers that work with me love doing vascular or general because it’s something different all the time. But it more On Call you will have to deal with
