Man, I have this car and I was really freaked out after hearing how much the repair costs and how many people have this problems. Was about to sell it to avoid the trouble in the future, but now I actually have some peace of mind. Thank you very much!
All that dust can't be good for the lungs. I know as guys some of us are too tough/macho to think/use safety gear but cancer does not discriminate between genders. For your health/well being I strongly recommend you use an appropriate respirator for the job. These things tend to catch up to us as we age. Trust me on this. I'm 49 y/o, worked as a mechanic for 20 yrs. Your call brother. Thanks for uploading.

I just replaced the same thing on my 2013 ford focus hatchback i dont have that to reprogram my tcm how can i do it and do u know how much the dealer ford would charge to reprogram my car
You helped me a lot. Thank you very much, you are helping hundreds of people with this video! Thank you
watching from the Philippines and I was surprised at how easy it was. I was quoted 5500 USD by Ford Philippines. but now I pulled out my car from them and let someone do it by outside shops. Thanks for this man!
I was struggling with transmission issue since one year and nobody gave me a clear explanation about the weird sounds I hear even Ford! Now all is clear! thank you so much
How did you go about getting that fixed?
@@austingagnier I put a new clutch set, release forks changed also..
Ford cant find a definitive solution, there will always be premature clutch wear with this powershift transmission
Thanks for the free knowledge, I see this job coming my way in the future
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Youâve inspired to make some videos on things I know real well.
Great Video! Very Helpful. Just bought a 2016 Focus 2.0. No codes or anything, but certainly felt like from 1st to 2nd slipped or was "rough." I did as you suggested, but didn't spin the actuator. Just vacuumed, sprayed brake cleaner let it sit, then WD40. Put it back in with screws and turned key a few times to light up panel and engage actuator. Repeated 3 times. Runs great now! Is this something I should do every year? or XX miles for maintenance? I have no desire nor skill to remove and take apart the transmission.
Nice video, thanks for the info. It would be so simple for ford to engineer a rubber boot to go around the fork mechanism with just the tips of the forks sticking out. The boot would keep all the dust off the mechanism. Focus titanium cars are really nice and they get 40mpg at highway speeds.
Ford's DCT is the most misunderstood transmission in history. I have a Mexican Ecosport with The 2.0 and DCT tranny. Traveled from Dallas to CUU, even Puerto Vallarta and Dallas to Chicago. I'm at over 115k miles now. Clutch A is getting stuck and I had the same plan as you just explained in the video. Thank you for sharing bro.
Hi sir, your videos are very helpful, i wanna try pulling down my transmission on my own but i dont know how to, if you have a step by step guide on how to pull it down that would be great! đ
Ford TSB for shuddering works for a while if you are just having the 1st-2nd gear shudder. Have a 2012 that's had the TCM reprogrammed at 80k but still shuddered from time to time. Every so often, I've ran the TSB and in doing so, 'scrubs' the clutches enough to keep the shuddering at bay for another 20-30k miles. You will have shudders throughout most of the life of the car in those first two gears. 230k on ours now and it's finally slipping in the 1st-3rd-5th gear clutch and has finally thrown a code indicating a bigger problem. Will reply back with report on code(s) found.
@@comparecars_org Oh I can definitely tell that it needs the 1-3-5 clutch, no doubt. The car only had one code for clutch depth or something similar, I forget sorry. But the car will sit for a few months until I can get parts then another month or more to get someone to work on it. Motor runs like a champ and uses barely any oil.
Is that 230k on original clutch?
@@jasonashley9853 For sure. It had the TCM recall back at just over 100k. Just drive it til it stops and don't worry about the random hickups.
Thanks, good job! FYI, I used to drive through that intersection all the time!!! LOL, small world.
Hi thanks for this free tutorial. I have a ford focus 2013 and had it since 2014. Bought it near new from the dealer 13k kilometers only but after almost a year of use it seems shuddering is already annoying me when driving and brought it back to the dealer. That time I already received a notice of recall regarding this shuddering issue and the service department said it was covered under warranty and a new clutch assembly will be installed. They hold my car for a couple of days for that service but only slight improvement. I have no way of verifying if the new clutch assembly was really installed. It only shows in paper report service that a new clutch assembly was installed. I was checking it under the hood and looking at all the bolts holding this transmission and to me it looks like never been removed. I just convinced myself that they did a pretty good job removing and installing it back like nothing happened. I used it for years until 2020 which a no reverse issue came out. Luckily thereâs a recall with the tcm and they replaced it with new tcm. Here I was able to verify physically the new tcm cause itâs attached outside the transmission. Itâs been two years since the tcm change and shuddering and sometimes slipping and grinding noise occurs which annoys me. I really love this car except that transmission issue. I have never trusted the dealership service cause the first annual service that I paid them was a disaster. Imagine when I picked up my car after that service and opened the hood there was oil everywhere They left the oil cap sitting in the engine bay. Lucky I didnât drove away immediately. They cleaned it big time and after that I was servicing my car for the past 8 years on my own except transmission problem. Now that Iâve watched your videos I am now convinced that I can service this time with the needed tools youâve mentioned. Lastly, will my Autel MK808TS can program the adaptive learning of this transmission? I have owned the new scanner for a couple of months only since buying a European VW Tiguan 2011. Sorry itâs a long story but I just want you to see where I am at this time. Hopefully when I give a crack in servicing the focus transmission I can ask some questions if I will encounter some issues along the way. Cheers bro and keep helping DIY people like me. God bless you
Your Autel should be able to do the adaptive learning.
Look in the Detroit free press a writer Phoebe Wall followed this for years. California class action lawsuit. There is no permanent fix(you have to drive your car BABYING IT then maybe)
working on mine now. got quoted 3100 at the dealer. Thanks for the guide
Yea itâs not cheap, but easy enough to do with a few tools
I just want to say thanks man you helped me out alot with your videos. My wife has a 2014 focus and 2 days after buying it from a dealer the TCM went on it and we had to fight with them to replace it and 3 weeks after getting it back it's having shifting problems again. Easy, when you have the funds, and the correct tools to fix it, having the funds everything is easier.
Thankyou, for sharing your information and knowledge , how to fix the dual clutch problem , on the ford fiesta and focus , it just no were for the clutch dust to get out and build up , it a wonder Ford didn't make an inspection holes at the bottom of the bell housing to let the dust out , and you could put a air hose to blow the dust out for cleaning , some manual trucks have inspection plates at the bottom of the bell housing for inspection and adjustment ..

Ford needs to watch this and do a service bulletin for all existing cars no need for removal can be done ever 10000 miles, remove actuator spray brake clean then wd40 done fixed.
That'd be too easy. lol... Gotta keep it complicated. They certainly don't want to admit clutch dust can cause some issues.

I got this one back in 2018, they have better ones one. Amazon or eBay

If you don't have the mechanical knowledge to actually remove the transmission. This is something you should not attempt, and take to a reputable repair shop.

Clutch material used to be, may still be, asbestos so be extremely diligent not to work without a mask on the clutch cleaning. Asbestos is no joke and will cause cancer. Again not sure if clutches still have asbestos but I wouldn't chance it.

Thanks for the videos dude, they helped a lot with diagnosing my car. I got my mechanic to drop the transmission and clean it out, then installed new clutch and shift forks, and finally reprogrammed the tcm. Scan tool I use is a launch 431 mini. Can also use forscan or ford IDS
Wonder if they creeped in bad traffic every day... or used first gear to hang on the side of a hill all the time, waiting at lights, instead of using the brake pedal...
Seems like if we drilled, tapped, and installed an air jet fitting by each actuator/fork, then hook up to an air compressor, every few months at each, with a capped fitting for the dust to escape, opposite of each, on the case, we could keep it clear of all bulk dust, and probably the dust on everything else, if the fitting creates a blasting effect inside the case.....especially if connected while shifting gears up and down the range, on a rolling road...

How would I get a shop to do this for me? and is there anything else I should have them fix/replace while they do it so I don't pay for them to just blow it out with air?
Just have them put all new parts in if they have the transmission out. That would be best
Hello Brother, I am very grateful for your video that helped me to take out my transmission, replaced broken z washer that ford dealer calls cylinder and one of A fork . Unfortunately I created more issue when I did put everything back. I did use wrong screw between trans body and engine and I did punctured the freeze coolant liquid cap and causing all the coolant to leak.. I am not sure if any high temp sealer will help to seal this leak.. for those who will do this job in DIY, please take time to mark or number every screw where it belong and will save you half day to figure out where the screw belong. If you have any advice how to fix this punctured plug, please respond to me , please⊠thanks.

Stuck in rural WI. Replaced both actuators and no code but still doesn't sound right. Afraid to drive it. May try and put it in tow mode and attach to back of the motorhome to get it somewhere to get fixed. $500 so far. No one wants to work on it or won't for weeks out. The really bites. I'm from Florida.
Has anyone considered drilling a few holes to just blow it out without the hassle of removing everything?
I imagine holes in a few key locations around the forks & at the bottom would allow for someone to spray cleaner and air in, along with actuating the forks, to get the thing working really well again.
Plug the holes up and then do it every 25 or 50k miles or something until the clutch is actually bad.
Could even use a borescope to check your work. They're cheap enough these days.
Not a bad idea. As long as you plug them like you said. You donât want moisture in there.

doing one now with a stuck B clutch... I think a real fix would be to ventilate the bell housing somehow that would blow or suck the dust out while driving.
Yes, but you donât want moisture in there ether

Excellent video! Thank you! You mentioned not using the scan tool occasionally, when you don't use the scan tool to relearn the clutch, is it just simple daily driving it gently to get it to relearn? No major throttle input, just basic stop and go/run through the gears?
I don't mind buying the tools to reset the clutch/press in the bearings, but not sure I can swing $700 for the scan tool for a one or two time use.
If everything is working properly it will learn shift points on its own with normal driving.
@@L8R-HP Thank you! I did find a video showing how to access those reset utilities using ForScan, which I can download to my laptop for free and the adapter is much less expensive. Anyone who does this job should replace the clutch and forks. I followed this and even though the clutch fork was unstuck, I dont think it worked well enough for it to engage the clutch completely. Plus you could be like me and have the clutch be too broken to reset and have to wait for all of these parts. It's a big job and you don't want to have to redo it. Just buy everything new so you don't have to give it two or three tries to work like I did.
New parts arenât always good. But if you do choose to replace everything be sure to lube up the new parts.

We are same problem in a Ford ecco sport automatic transmission
One other question.
. When you manually engage the shift forks 14 turns and then remove the special tool the forks snap back to the front.. the A fork is snapping back strong and loud however the B fork is snapping back but seems only about half the force of the A fork. Is that normal? Both fork were thoughly cleaned and re-lubricared, as well as the bell housing. I tried to watch and listen to various videos but I couldn't make out a definitive answer.
As long as they go back after 14 turns itâs ok. If they stop or sticking thatâs gona slip the clutch
