- In this video I show you how involved a clutch replacement is on one of these and why you may not get a perfect shifting trans afterwards. This is just an FYI for owners.

Thank you bro well done on the video, might keep the car now I don't have to send it to the shop the next time it goes out 😅
@FordTechMakuloco just bought a 2012 fiesta. Grinding from left front, increases with speed, shifts okay but I don't think I have 6th. Worn clutch you think? Thanks, your videos are awesome!
I've got grinding from the left front especially at 50mph+, some hesitation in shifting. 2012 fiesta 107k. Is the clutch just worn out? Packed with clutch dust? Thanks
Roughly how much does a job like this cost?

I am a ford tech in kansas, this guy has helped save me SOOOOOO much time and headaches. Videos are ALWAYS thorough and on point. Whenever I get in a jam, this fella guides me out of it with ease. I kindly thank you sir for your efforts in taking the time to post everything that you do simply out of good faith, deed & generosity, your a rare breed, and again I thank you. :)

Excellant tutorial...very clear and concise, as an ex Ford Production Engineer and having worked in the transmission repair trade for 43 years, its nice to see such high quality information sharing. Well done
I don't even have a new Focus or Fiesta but I fully appreciate what you've done for the community by making this video. I've learned so much and I'm sure many others have too just from watching this. Thank you again!
No problem.
What he said
My wife has one if you want to practice. I'm learning the hard way to pay very close attention to her buying of crap.
The new clutch felt good for about a month. Then it went way downhill until it didn't engage one night while pulling into the driveway. Back to Ford it went and when they couldn't find anything wrong with it and gave us the same song and dance, that was it. We got rid of it and went back to Toyota. First Ford, last Ford. Nice car but that trans is a lemon. Ford couldn't find its way out of a paper bag with respect to this issue. We gave them two years to do the right thing.
And we were consistently treated badly at Ford service centers by the guys at the desk who hold Ford's purse strings. Not the experience we were used to coming from previous makes of cars. Very happy with our new Toyota at $60 less a month.
I know one person that has been back to them 5 times and another person I know has been there 3 times. This will be my third time also. I will see what they are going to do in October at the class action law suit hearing. If they buy the car back, I am going somewhere else also. This is bull shi- for them to hide this from their customers.
Thank you for this most excellent tutorial. I have recurring 2013 Focus shift shutter problem. Your video has helped me understand the scope and complexity of this issue.
This is hands down the best mechanical/automotive repair video I have ever watched. And I have watched lots upon lots. Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for taking the time to record and explain the whole process me and a lot of people that own Ford Focus cars appreciate your hard work recording and explaining step by step

Hello Brian, (I think). This is so old that you may not see this comment but I am so glad that I never bought a Ford with one of these transmissions. 2015 Mustang GT with the PP pack and a 2018 Focus ST for me. Old style 6-spd manuals. Even at 73 yrs old I don't mind rowing through the gears in fact it's fun even though I got used to driving autos for quit a few years but had driven manuals for many years before.
Thank you for all the great videos that you've done.
George
Great job explaining this transaxle and the service procedures!
This is one of the best educational videos that I have ever seen, Thank You Makuloco
I am a master tech, and also own a 2012 Focus. The original clutch and seals were replaced at about 25k under warranty. Now, the car has 246,000 miles on it. On the way home I all of a sudden lost 6th gear, and a transmission malfunction warning came on the message center. After stopping, I had no 2nd, 4th and 6th gears. I suspected the clutch wore out. So, I got a new clutch unit, 2 quarts of the special lube, and Monday removed the trans. Since I don't have your special tools, I had to improvise, but it worked. I removed the clutch unit, and checked the throw out bearings (?). Well, the smaller one had granaded, and the lower one was extremely rough, so I got a new assembly. I installed the new bearings, and then the clutch unit. Once again, I had to improvise, but I got it set and aligned. I unlocked the unit as your video tells you too. Well, when I got it done all back together, I did the relearn as required. Then, text drive. Well, it has never worked as well as it is now!!!!!! Perfect take off, perfect shifts bot up and down. It is holding perfectly! So thank you for your video! I now am confident that I could do this job for pay.
Sincerely,
Peter T.

Hi, did you happen to find any torque specs?
Any updates?
I've always said that if the engineers had to work on them they would design them differently. Nice work.
Have you worked at or been to a Transmission Engr facility? The product engineers spend a ton of time in the lab building & tearing down transmissions, as long as the Union permits it. They also spend a ton of time with the manufacturing & assembly engineers, at least we did at GM where I worked. We also had Service engineers as part of the team. I am not sure how Ford decided this design was worthy of production. Walk a mile in the engineers shoes.
Engineer design it that way so an average person can’t fix it . To keep the Middle class working that supports both Rich and the poor .
You are a man after my own heart. He does his job right, like the vehicle belonged to himself or someone he loves.
Good job!
Yeah I don't want to do one of these over, better to do it right the first time.
FordTechMakuloco I have a feeling you want it right regardless of a job being the first time or the last time, whether on camera or not. I enjoy people who are good at what they do.
Believe it or not, but I got a letter from Ford concerning the 14M01 thing the very same day (8/28) on a car I bought in June. I wish I could have you do the work. She is somewhat squirrely accelerating from a stop and/or in the 0 - 30 mph range. You have to use a heavy foot to smooth things out. I was starting to think I would buy something different next year. I really miss my '01 Focus.
FordTechMakuloco hi, i have ford focus with same problem. The issue increasing pretty fast. Think it is that seal. My dealer says i have to replace clutch.
Where you located at? Would you be able to fix my focus?
PS
This was most helpful video so far about this issue

This isn’t a Ford design though. They cheaped out and sourced the trans to the same company that made the VW trans. I heard that they were talking to Borg Warner before they did this and we could have had a sweet dual clutch design that actually worked but it was a little too expensive
Had this issue at 5k miles with my 2012 Focus back in the day. Was told the shudder and oil leakage was normal. Thanks Wickstrom Ford. Replaced that horrible car with a Pontiac Vibe, much better.
That's a pretty crazy dual dry clutch transmission setup. Very thorough comprehensive tutorial video. Good job I appreciate the video guys
This is a very involved and complicated procedure that most service places are not qualified to perform. You did a very good job in both the filming and presentation, Even though I was a mechanic back in the day, your video provides me with the needed information to be able to ask the right questions concerning for a service facility. I don't believe that shops, other than the Ford dealership, will be properly equipped to perform this service.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video because I know it is time consuming. I can't believe you received any thumbs down for this video and I would challenge them to make one better. Great job!
I am sure technicians working on this transmission are going to use your videos for training. Brain you are simply awesome!
Doing it right now
I own a 2013 Focus and love the gas mileage, after many trips into the dealership, the trans is finally running very well, no shudder. This video is "excellent" . One of the best I have ever seen. Thank you.
How much did it cost
@@kristianmopsticc2887 May 2023 Dealer wanted $3700 to do this, I haggled them down to $2600... that includes 2 new forks also.... (8 hrs labor @ $179/hr included) my cost to do this myself would be about $950... but they already had pulled the transmission and that was $900 I was gonna have to pay anyway.
Oh and greatly appreciate you weren't explaining at nauseum to the DIY first timers. A great piece, about to order a hoodie in appreciation!
Good video, well explained. I've just sent in my fiesta 2012 for second clutch replacement. Hope this one last longer...
How long did first last
Great video, well done. Being a mfg engr for the last 3 decades and a gearhead as well, I was thinking of giving this a shot on my inlaws Focus, until the entire recalibration process at the end, oh snap
Just had this done at Ford today for our 2013. Amazing video. Left me with a new appreciation for the complexity of the design. Thank you!
Was wondering how much your dealer had charged you?

It sounds like a lot of these cars will just be totalled when they are ten years old and it’s 3000.00 for a new transmission! Throw away car just like a lot of the hybrids will be when the battery park fails on a high miles beater.
@craigjorgensen4637 found out the problem, it's the Catatylic converter, the system is very tricy any airflow data coming in that's that's not normal, it's throws the whole system off and causes other malfunctions that's seems to be transmission or other problems but are not, atleast for me that's the issue, other than that these are great cars just have to keep the lines cleans and airflow and you're good,
Just subbed man! Your a perfectionist and really instructive. Awesome! Reminds me of me in my line of work.I’ve been a Hydraulic mechanic now for 20 years and do all the repairs on all my vehicles, families, friends etc etc. watched a few of your videos on catch cans since I’ve purchased the 13 Focus ST a few years ago now. You’ve helped me understand a few things now and I’m greatly appreciated of you for your content. Wondering if you’ve got a video out for the ST clutch?? Getting ready to tackle it soon. Thanks again! Looking forward to watching more of your videos
Thanks so much for sharing. I am not likely to do this myself but it sure make me a lot more appreciative of the guys in blue who does the job. Great video. Keep them coming.
Bought 2013 Focus new. Seals and clutch replaced under warranty at 9,800 miles. Replaced again at 28,000 miles. Again at 55,000 miles last October thank goodness they extended the warranty for 7 years and 70,000 miles for original owner. Complained to Ford that I was afraid it would happen again. They gave me an additional 3 year 36,000 miles of warranty for free. Warranty from the October repair date and mileage. They assured my the new design would last and they backed up their claim. Awesome and thanks Ford
Thanks for all the info, in Edmonton, Canada here have a 2011 fiesta, the battery died in a recent cold snap, put in a new one in and the tcm went out, at the dealership they put in new tcm and also new clutch/ seals, surprisingly all under warranty! have done 1000km since then and the transmission is perfect so far, no clunking or shaking/shuddering going through the gears at all anymore, hopefully will last a few more years!
I had the exact same problem, owen k, Bad battery and TCM knocked out. Dealer said that is normal and replaced TCM under warranty. Battery was over 4 years old, and they said battery should be replaced at 3 years. They don't tell you that when you buy it. They also said to not let it creep in traffic. They don't tell you that either.
great video.you dealer guys get all the nice specialty tools. my ex boss would have lifted the clutch free with a cherry picker...
Rube Goldberg would be proud of this design. Good video. Very precise and informative. I have this same problem as well as the TCM.
Rube Goldberg. Lol. Couldn't have said it better myself. It seems like a Rube Goldberg contraption. Over engineered.
Great work and excellent workmanship, I don’t own these new model cars but I certainly learnt a lot from you video, the problem with new tech is that it requires dedicated people like you who care about doing things correctly!. The DIY era is slowly coming to an end.
What are the name of the tools you use to help make the job easier for pulling the transmission from a ford focus
Excellent video and discussion. My 2013 Fiesta has 22K miles presently. Bought it new in Jan 2014. Dealer here in Colorado Springs, Colorado (Phil Long) replaced seals 1 year ago (Nov 2014) It's Shuddering again. My appointment to have it looked at again is in Jan 2016, there are 140 Fiestas ahead of me! I hope that it gets fixed correctly this time. Too bad; it gets 40 mpg consistently every tank full. But shudders badly from a stop when on a hill. I see that there is a class action lawsuit in California against Ford for this issue.
I love the dps6, best transmission ever for making money.
And the Nissan CVT.
No joke
VW/AUDI DSG would be my choice of money making transmissions.
Lol! I got my wife a '12 Focus in May. It's in the shop for the third time for the same shift problem.
Maybe good for shops but really horrible for a consumer. If it took over 7yrs to get it right, think of all the cars driving around with a poorly designed clutch and they'll have to pay for Ford's lack of testing to get it correct before their warranties expired and now they have to pay for that poorly engineered unit.
man Ford needs to pay you extra for all these great videos! Awesome job!
Yeah I know they should pay me to be a public relations person at east.
Yes seriously you are educating the customer from a real world tech standpoint

Excellent video im a ford tech in uk and just done first clutch on this transmission, i watched this video as i was doing clutch which was a massive help as ford instructions not very clear about changing seals or refitting clutch Thanks
Just curious. This video is edited so roughly how long would this take?
Simon Steward following video and doing for first time once transmission was on bench it took me about 90 mins to replace clutch and input shaft seals then about 20 mins on computer once transmission installed back in car hopefully next time i do one It shouldn't take that long next time
I have a 2012 Focus SE, it’s my first car. Bought it at 30,000 and LOVED it until it literally almost killed me. The shutter was terrible, steering locked and trans malfunction on in the middle of an intersection. Then while parked it happened again. Horrifying experience, these things are insanely dangerous.
Love your videos very infornative and educational. Keep up the good work!!!
This is a really well made auto repair series.

+armando quezada You should put a video up showing.
Yes! Please make a video to show us a faster way! I'd watch it!
Yes! We use the two pry bar method to remove and a hammer to install at our shop. The only special tools we use are the seal tools and socket to unlock the clutch.
Do you have a video of this method?

This is a eye opener. My experience is with the actuator and not with the clutch itself. Extraordinary difficult to diagnose. What was Ford thinking.
This is a very involved job. A lot more than I thought it would be.
Great video, just got our 2014 Focus fixed at a local dealer. This video helped us understand what was going on with our transmission and clutches so we could inform the dealer of what exactly was going on. Thanks to our extended warranty, now we are not thinking about getting rid of the car. Would recommend watching this video.
Greetings ...Did Ford come up with a permanent fix for the clutch problem or just replace with a another so same problem keeps happening after another few k put on the new clutch? Asking because I'm about to drop my feista off at the dealer and have the shuddering/ slipping fixed or should I sell the car thanks hope it works out for you as well ☮️
Ish Gilbertson Hi there, we were able to get a brand new updated clutch installed in our Focus, and it seems to be completely fixed, no problems so far.
Do you still have the vehicle and if so is it still going strong?
Excellent detail in your video. One question. At 20:15 you release the clutch locks by turning the inner screws 14 times. At 6 revolutions you hear the clutch release so why turn so much more? And then after 14 turns you reverse and turn the screws clockwise but you dont say how far or at what point to stop? Do you keep turning until they are tight? Snug? A critical torque required? Thanks.
Great video and convinced me I didn't need to buy that Focus after all...
Youchoob1 I wish I’ve seen this video before I bought mine. I have a 2015 Ford focus for commuting.
Hemi Power, how's that going for you? I just bought a 2013 Focus with very low mileage. Although it seems to drive very well, when I turn it on cold I can hear a soft intermitting sound of faint scratching, or friction between metals, and I'm afraid it's on its way down.
Daniel Mouynes same issue on my 2013 focus SE, I've had it for a little over a year, pretty scary to hear the noises while driving with the window down. I changed the transmission fluid, which was for some reason red compared to the Ford dct fluid I replaced it with (light brown), and yeah.. still does it. Probably the same issue we both have as seen in this video, and I could only imagine how much money out of warrant it will cost us lol.
I'm kinda afraid to ask how much. It got temporarily worst the other day during one single drive, and ever since I creep into first and second gear like a damn ninja just to prolongue the inevitable... Damn good car though, I'm very much into it & willing to take the hit.
Daniel Mouynes you and me both, I do love the car, not going to lie. Gonna call the local Ford dealership and see what they say and go from there. But yeah the lower gears seem to be my issue as well.
Very interesting. Thanks for the video it's done really well. Now I know a lot more about this clutch setup.
Excellent has restored my faith in Garage Technicians. Thank you.
just had this done to my wife's 2013 Focus SE. I asked if they changed the input shaft seal to the upgraded one. the reply was yes and they said it was the cause of the shudder due to trans fluid getting on the clutches, Which is feasable. I hope this is the end of the problem but being a pessimist i have my doubts. thanks for the informative video.
Has the upgraded seal lasted so far?
Ryan A the upgraded seals last Ive never seen one fail
How much did it cost you? It should be something they should do for free.
How much did u spend did ford not cover it
bullshit they don't cover it. they've put two completely new transmissions in my 2012 focus and the updated seals, all at zero cost to me. edit to add: the transmission has been perfect for over a year now
Great video, being a former mechanic and car builder, this convinced me to not buy a Focus. Thanks for the great video...

Bought a Fiesta manual In 2014 now 5 years on, no problems what so ever. Those dual clutch automatics are junk.
Same here. Opening mine up to do the thermostat tomorrow, but that is the first issue in over 6 years. Its about time it gets a full coolant flush and replacement anyway. Everything else has just been regular maintenance. 6.5L/100km all day long, and I don't exactly drive it gently.
I drove a manual and went to an automatic dual clutch. You’re absolutely right; they’re junk!
Just watched this video, after repairing one of these. I missed the balance mark on clutch, and flexplate. and it does have a shake to it. I will be contacting customer to bring it back in so I can redo it correctly. I really like your videos, and got one of your hoodies to support your channel last month. Thanks again!

I hope you guys watching this learned your lesson: always get a manual transmission with these small four cylinder cars. Not just for Fords, but for Hondas and Toyotas as well. These small cars are almost always better and less trouble with the factory manual transmission.
exactly what I'm thinking while I scour the internet for reasons why my shift actuator throws a low circuit code and I can't reverse 🙃
Excellent video and crystal clear explanation ....no more doing this job at home 😥
Extremely informative! loved the video.
unknown at this point. the past week the clutch started to shudder again in 1st AND 2nd gear. our intent is to take it back to the dealer very soon. my thought is 1 the seal is leaking again or 2 the trans controller is giving problems. makes the car a bear to drive in traffic. after 2nd gear the car drives fine. the only time it has problems is when the trans is hot or on a hot day. it could be leaking again or heat is getting to the trans controller. idk.
I have exactly this same issue. It doesn't happen until the gearbox (tranny) is warmed up and been driven a while but sure enough a shudder/judder happens in low gears. Dealer just confirmed the clutch needs to be replaced. Thankfully I got the extended warranty or I would have to cough up 1200 bucks.
Could the oil that you have made contaminate the clutch? And due to the wear and tear of having walked with the clutch contaminated with oil just crawled it faster? This clutch has a limit and can be measured, have you checked these measurements or installed a new clutch?
mine 2012 has same issues....did you find out what cause problem... clutch or tcm?
@@runamonk so was it the clutch or tcm
@@georgedoan They said clutch and that's what they replaced. They also reset the TCM at the same time as part of it.

Great video thank you so much! I have my daughters 2014 at Ford right now getting this exact same thing done..... I really pray it fixes it like they have worked or you, I dont put much stock in dealer mechanics but the tech seemed knowledgable on it so well see..... I need this car to last her until she gets out of college and then some so I hope the tech has even half you knowledge lol
I have a 2012 Ford Focus with this Powershift transmission. Had problems with it just after I bought it. I noticed the fluid leak after removing the bottom access panel under the car to do an oil change. Took it to the dealership and they said it was an oil leak from the engine, but they said that is normal and did nothing about it. I brought it back again for transmission issues so they reflashed it and said this is just how these cars are. I am now just out of warranty (61,000 miles) and the transmission has developed a more consistent shudder between 1st and 2nd, trailer hitching in lower gears as well as reverse and it continues to leak. So basically the dealerships hung me out to dry and now I have to pay for the replacement of parts to correct an issue that is common and has a solution. It wasn't until I started to research the problem and found this video that it all makes sense. Thanks for posting this.
Jamie Hockemeyer Did you not get an extended warranty letter from Ford?
FordTechMakuloco I received the letter from Ford the other day but it was not very specific as to if this is an actual recall or just a notice. My 2012 Focus has had the shudder since day one and make crazy noises during shifts, especially when engaging third gear (I think it's third). It just gives a grinding sound for a little bit and then goes away. What does this letter actually cover? Thank you for the video!
It says right in it I believe clutch seals and reflashes basically your current problem.
I'm wondering if Ford isn't replacing the seal around the input shaft when they do clutch replacements. My car is about due for it's 3rd clutch replacement in 43k miles.
They are not automatically anymore.
I'm getting ready to replace my 3rd, going on 56k! I already had it replaced in September 2016 and August 2017 and now it's acting up again. I didn't realize the clutch would end up being regular maintenance.
Shana Lewis in the same situation..going on #3..I’ve had the tcm replaced, and shifting motor replaced, and several reflashes, and the catalytic converter replaced..all in 25k miles car is a fuckin turd lmao the supervisor at ford says oh it’s completely normal to experience shudder and a little jerking up to a certain point..get the fuck outta here what other automatic acts like that even my other car is a stick shift and even if I shift it terribly it doesn’t feel as bad as this junk
What a pile of crap.
Thanks for this amazing video so i don't accidentally buy this double-shit ever.
I don't even own a Ford yet but this was fun to watch and very informative.
So many advances since I was a Ford tech in the late 70s thru the 80s. I thought I was pretty fancy because I was good with a variable venturi carb. Good job.
The DPS6 is cake work man. Good techs can crank these things out under 2.5.
great video, i'm not an auto mechanic and yet i understand the process. i've watched this video so that the dealership can't make a fool out of me. i own a ford focus 2013. I've experienced the shuddering, car sluggish that feels like its always on the first gear, then sudenly revs at high then suddenly drops down. all these problems manifested at 66,000 kilometers (odometer reading). car is currently at ford dealership for service. The covid pandemic that started in 2019 will be solve hopefully by the end of this year, but i guess this problem with the dps6 transmission of ford will still persist until the end of the world. Damn you FORD for selling defective units!
Covid problems are life long if you got vaccinated
Geez what happened to the simple clutch job days lol
Still a LOT easier than rebuilding a hydraulically operated automatic transmission!
anyone having the same problems for 2017 focus?
This guy is a genius. I wish he had worked on my 2012 Fiesta. Hopefully the Ford dealer installed the brown colored parts on my clutch.
This video is just amazing 👏.. I got here trying to understand how to save 3200 that ford dealer is charging me to fix my daughter's 2012 focus. Although I'm a very handy person and it seems I can tackle assembly thanks to your explaining, I would never be able to finish the last process of programing with the computer.. I really don't know what else to do. 😔
My 2016 Fiesta has been flawless, I have 22k miles on it currently with a blend of city and highway. Around how long should my clutches last with just normal wear?
Wait another 20,000 miles more till it starts slipping my wifes 2014 focus se has 46,000 miles and its been tooken to the dealer at least 3 different times to get it fixed an never seem to permanently fix the problem just today the transmission light turnd on on the cluster
I had a 2015 from new with 100k+, never a problem, but I understand the transmission and how to drive it. It's as close to a manual transmission without having to shift. Super fun car to drive.
Sell it before the warranty expires this ford transmission is one of ford worst trans ever made! Just problems and clutches dont last long! These firds are wirth buying if they have a manual transmission.
it shouldn't happen until about 80k, that's when the clutch will start to slip under normal conditions. I am having my first replacement on my 2012 focus today!
Worst transmission ever, IMO. 2012 Focus is the reason I will never buy another ford.
it's more poor design it's a dual clutch manual type tyranny made to electronically and automatically shift which it does poorly.
I'm in the same boat. Ford lost a customer in me because of the 2012 Focus transmission.
Pirwzy 2012-present. They still putting these transmissions even on the new focus. Not all fords are bad. Just avoid the AWD explorers and automatic fiesta/focus. Manual focus and fiesta are fine.
What is the scoop with the AWD Explorers? If those are to be avoided, so should the Taurus, as the chassis is about the same.
As far as I know, I haven't seen a Taurus enter a shop for AWD service. I've always seen explorer AWD, specifically police ones that are equipped with the 6F55 transmission. They leak from the transmission case (not enough silicone sealant from the factory) and the PTU (Power take off unit) leaks from the shaft seals and breather tube. If you get a burnt smell and the fluid color is black, then chances are you will need a new PTU.
O they figured out how to make a clutch replacement quick and easy. Thanks Ford.
Thankyou for sharing your knowledge and information , on the clutch and seals change out .
repsct you because you are not selfish you going to grow just cuz of that
Thanks!
junk 2015 Fiesta same problem
Thanks really helped today, I was trying the whole book procedure and it was getting me no where for about 20 minutes
just wanted to share something with you, I am a european specialist and am amazed at the system Ford has on this Focus, the principle is very similiar to the BMW M series with the SMG transmission. A manual transmission shifted automatically. The Ford system works much nicer though. Very smooth. I am impressed.
Tim Wrye “WHEN” it work correctly.
And this is the reason I drive a car with a standard transmission.
+jose martinez Got that statement 100% correct, I will NOT buy a car that has a manual available with an automatic or in this case a semi automatic. To be honest I was thinking of buying a new Fiesta and naturally with a manual but I think there are other brands available now with 6 speed manual standard like Hyundai Accent
Those are really good choices but i want a little more room and I'm looking at a 2013 ford fusion with a 6 speed manual and really low miles. Good luck with what ever one you choose!
jose martinez agreed. I found a 2012 focus for a good deal with a manual transmission, thank God. shifts and drives great, I've been happy with it. sounds like people with the automatics aren't having the same experience...
I just bought a 2017 Hyundai Sonata 6 speed MANUAL
jose martinez Indeed Brother I hate this automatic car BS.
Man dam that that way to many steps for clutch replacement
Yup!
Great video explains why it costs 2000 to get one replaced. We have a 2014 and should have been notified of the class action!!! Problem started about 26000 miles and we went through the song and dance for 5 years with it still have it. It has been at the shop for 2 years trying to get it out of the parking lot after 900 here and 2000 there, I am setting it on the side of A major highway on a few acres I own with a billboard stating a synopsis telling everyone that passes to beware of Ford Motor company products because they do not stand behind their products and will rip you off to fix them.
Hi,mister Brian, very nice way to explain the full process.
You don't happen to live in Ontario do you? Great video.
Nope the good ole USA.
@@FordTechMakuloco where in USA and how much to do the front main seal and clutch replacement. I'm not trusting ford anymore..
The top clutch motor you only turned 13 times
+Joshua Harden you turn it up to 14 times you will hear when they pop and release
FordTechMakuloco May I ask why we have to wind it 14 times , on ford stud it says to wind it 14 times I done that , and it just winds back after doing it
Ford etis*
It sounded like they both popped at around 7 turns. Not sure why you need 14.
I bought my daughter's 2013 Titanium for her 18th birthday and high school graduation last spring. WE LOVE THIS CAR. I'm a discriminating car owner and typically drive German cars, but this Titanium Focus won my heart. It's sporty and tight and perfect for her. However, it has this shudder and grinding issue with the clutch. The dealership handed me the 2 page blah, blah and said to give it some time.
One year later, no change. I took it in today and they were aware of, and are now admitting to, this issue but said that they now have to go through a lengthy process due to Ford's new policy's on this particular issue. Sounds like a song and dance from Ford if you ask me... In any case, there were two new transmission updates they put my car through today (from late 2013 and Feb 2014). Once done, the staff was actually very sad to report that the tests did not qualify my car for the clutch repair. They said to drive it a couple of weeks and bring it back for the next step.
So I took it home and, as expected by all (me and the dealership), the problem is not repaired. On top of that, the car now shimmy's while idling at a stop. Question: could this be due to the updates somehow or did I just not notice it before? I don't drive the car that often since it is my daughter's, but since I am so fussy, I think I would have noticed. Let me know what you think about this idling issue but, MOST IMPORTANTLY, while we are trying to figure all this out and fighting with Ford, is this car truly safe for my daughter to drive without the repair?
Very nice birthday present. These are nice cars except for the trans. At this point I think between the calibrations, new clutch design, relearn process and the new seal design they have it figured out and the ones I repair work awesome. They need to do those updates and get you back in spec so you can enjoy the car. Have you seen my 2 other videos on this concern? Namely the one that states why your dealer won't fix the car? 2011+ Fiesta & Focus- Why the Dealer Won't Fix Your Transmission
2011+ Ford Fiesta & 2012+ Focus Clutch Shudder Explained
FordTechMakuloco The trans software update likely did not cause your idle concern no, the only thing it is doing now is relearning the idle and fuel trims which will take a little while so the idle may not be perfect.
Great video👍 Looks like I'm going to be going through his now 😖 Been _driving around the clutches not working smoothly_ (finessing the throttle) since I got the car but last night it got very unhappy and check engine came on...
Is that Christian music I hear in the background?
complicated to the point is no sense at all. sound like BIG FAIL with all tweaking and learning thing that screws up probably in a year. Why they went into this idea. Why they keep with this idea ?. If something was born DEFECTIVE, just move foward to a new desing. Blows my mind the effort they put in getting this trans running. From fixing procedure is clear that something went soooo wrong in the desing. A gearbox is not supposed to need to be serviced as a swiss wach. Poor design at its best, trying to fix deep defects with more and more complex procedures.
+38911bytefree I know I agree they have started moving forward starting in 2016 with the 6f15
FordTechMakuloco Still blows my mind ... it is ... FORD. Cant believe that take them that long to find a proper solution of giving up on this design.. In the meanwhile, I see tons of this vids all around YT, and dealerships (when this wasnt sooo spread) tried to hide or minimize the issue. But this was very massive to the point that they end to admit the issue. I can understand a car had an issue. Things happen. The amount of issues on Focus and Fiestas, from the amount of vids is too much. Being FORD I would have expected a proper attitude in an effort to try to keep the customers. I say keep, because, the ones that bought one of those lemons aren not going to buy a FORD anymore. This trans has 5 ... 6 years ... I have heard it has 10 revisions and 2016s still similar issues. The investment for this gearbox, design, parts, plant .. sure it was insane. But, did they HEAVILY tested this approach / concept, prior doing all this investment. I mean, if ths concept or design is soo defective, it MUST have shown during the test run. Something tells me they just went ahead anyways or proper endurance tests were never conducted.
FordTechMakuloco my wife's 2013 Focus SE has had the clutch replacement 4 times. are they no closer to solvong this problem? she had new clutches put in last week. they have installed the brown seals 2 clutches ago. in my opinion this is not a seal problem but an input shaft deflection problem that wears out the seal. just my 2 cents.
parabéns amigo pela apresentação do vídeo .
Thanks for this video!! I need to practice this!!
