    This looks great. Just what I need for my K1500. Thanks for posting. It's helpful to see one being installed like this because I was really wondering how they worked exactly. But I gotta say I'm disappointed to see they use a flat head screw for the mounting bolt instead of a regular hex-bolt head. why would they do this? I hate flat heads. Or is it actually come kind of security bolt type head?

    • @kevinkeils8569
      @kevinkeils8569 Před 5 lety +1

      blank stares the screw is actually a safety screw that you can’t back out. If you look closely this screw can only be tightened. Not a fan because I don’t think it’s necessary. Regular Phillips, hex or square bolt would work great! You would have to be In the back to remove this anyway!

    This looks way better than the others on the market. I think I will use a standard bolt, in case I need to take it offin the future.

    I just took this locking devices off several years of rust accumulation later. It's a huge PITA to get off. That special bolt inside the bed only gives you torque for tightening. You can't get much leverage on it with a large flathead due to the shape. I'm sure this is partially done to prevent a thief from removing the device. I ended up squeezing the thin of the bolt really tight with vice grips to turn it after stripping out the head for flathead screwdriver use. I consider myself lucky to not need to cut the head of the bolt.

    Look good wish they would have came up with a better screw for the back then a flat head something harder to remove special key or something

      It metric of some kind just take bolt to hardware store & they can tell u what trends it is with the nut wall display thing they have there to trend in bolts to figure out trends on the wall or hanging up in the bolts & nuts section of store

  • @citylockapolytechnikeyllcc7936

    It is a shame this handle replacement does not incorporate the BOLT key system, to use the vehicle ignition key. GM does have one for a limited year range of Chevy/GMC, but no solutions for other pickup makes, or even earlier GM years and key types. The BOLT cylinders are highly pick resistant, and do not have the limited 10-20 keys many of these accessories are limited to.

  • @OMRS1

    Why the fuck would you use that kind of bolt if that handle breaks which they do very often good luck getting that type of bolt off they're only meant to screw in and not out

  • @scrambler350
    @scrambler350 Před 3 lety

    Installed one of these over a year ago, it's pretty much useless because all you have to do is pull up hard on the handle and it opens anyway - waste of money. Tried another brand I found on eBay called 'BULLY' and it's even worse - doesn't even give the illusion of locking the handle opens just as easily "locked" or unlocked.
    Really wish there was a better solution.

      It's a single direction screw head, that's why it's flathead in a world where nobody uses anything except phillips heads.

    Typical of GM... after paying at least $30k for a new truck at the time, the owner has to purchase and install a tailgate lock at his or her expense, when FORD and other car manufactures have a built in tailgate lock from the factory using the same key for the doors and ignition.

      I hear you LOL! I owned a 2001 Ford F-350 7.3 Diesel truck & it got broken into while i was traveling & parked downtown & was at bar for a few hours M0T$ERF*$KERS stole my Mac Book Pro but anyway my truck was locked but i guess Fords are hella easy to break into cause the whole door handle/lock is plastic so it is really easy for someone to take a screw driver or something & break lock under handle it sucked but kinda of my fault for being stupid & leaving Mac Book Pro in my truck it was not visible tho or anything so those F*&CKERS just got lucky i guess. But it sucked major D**K

      BTW i know Chevy/GMC handle are plastic also but the way the Fords handles our made it makes it super easy to break into but if some wants to break into your shit they can always go caveman style & just smash the window LOL

      GMC/Chevrolet incorporated they keyed tailgate handle when they went to the newer design. Nothing for older trucks from GM, but they did EXACTLY as you wished for... you were just a few years too erarly. FORD did not lock theirs, either....until they DID. The newest ftailgate rom GM is just shy of having an electric escalator built-in.
