The world wars, with germany as it's enemy, was the closest the US ever fought what you could call an equal enemy. And still the US never fought them alone. I was playing Civilizations 5 as Augustus Cesar of Rome. I was trying to build cities in a straight line along nice resources which one ended on a river bed. When I was about to get a settler to the river, Birschmarck of Germany suddenly taken the spot before me. I had to build a siege army to take it as the area held valuable resources for Rome. I built up some Legions, Bowmen and Ballistas. Constructed forts around Birshmark's city. I placed my units around strategically. I was so focused in taking that city, I didnt noticed that a neighbor empire China had snuck up on me with a large army, with my capital undefended. I knew immediately that I had to retreat because it was a large army. It was a grim moment when you think of it. Rome is being surrounded by China, my retreating army is being bombarded by Germany. I thought it was over. Then I remembered this song and this movie. I started to sing it while playing. My army was moving slowly because of the rough terrain. Rome had already fallen to China. But I didnt gave up. I marched my remaining forces of 2 Bowmen, 2 Legionaires, 2 Ballistas and 2 Great Generals. It was a hard fight. I lost some units. But I was able to turn it around by constructing a Citadel with my 1 General. I was trying to siege the city. But my other Ballista was destroyed by bombardment. One of my Legionaires was killed after my attempt to clear the surrounding guards. At last, one of my cities finished producing another Ballista. I took it to the battle, and lay one more siege to the city's defenders. Finally! Rome was recaptured! After all the hardship. For the glory of Rome!
The legions were set up specifically for that purpose. You trained, fought, worked, slept, and ate all as a small unit and the idea was to build bonds so strong that the unit fights as one. The roman war machine had rather simple weapons and tactics compared to most army's but the brilliant way they utilized them and the multitalented men making up the unit made the difference
This song makes me sad. My ancestors would want me to move forward into progression.... Yet faith stole our memories of the old days. As a wise man once said, "You can kill thousands of us. But when you destroy all of our historical achievements, our texts, statues, art, our way of life. Then you will truly destroy us." What would I give to have my peoples knowledge restored and our way of life still intact.

Mmm, actually, there's a lot of Chinese propaganda too. The 'Silk Road Protection' part alludes to China's 'Belt and Road' plan. In the movie this force supposedly protects all supposed users from 36 supposed nations that it passes through. I doubt this is historically accurate. There's also a dialogue between the Chinese Silk Road Protection leader and the Roman leader where the Chinese guy says 'China just wants to save people'. Again, suggesting China will be a benevolent protector for all nations part of it's 'belt and road' plan. There's probably more, but that's what I noticed on the first view of the movie.

That legacy stretches even to the farthest corners of the Earth - Did the Romans ever think that their language would be spoken, changed only by the passage of time, across the American continent from the Rio Grande River to the Tierra del Fuego?
The World is yet Roman - The Christian Church is yet Roman, with it's Cathedrals, Curias, Basilicas and Diocese. That weight and time of history is shared by all Good men who's blood and tongues mingled with the greatest Empire of Western Civilization.
It is difficult to explain - Something only felt in the heart.

It matters not whether the Roman Empire was the greatest empire in history, what does matter is its people and its legacy. As long as the soul of Rome lives on in the hearts of its people and their descendants, the standard of Rome will one day rise again from the ashes.

The American empire is certainly the single strongest and most influential power in the history of earth, let’s not get it twisted.
@@jeremias-serus What empire? And no, i tend to disagree. The US (that's probably what you meant, not the entirety of america) is a diplomatic mastermind.
In direct conflict it never came close to rome achievements. They never fought a war without allies and also never fought a war on equal terms against another global power. The world wars, with germany as it's enemy, was the closest the US ever fought what you could call an equal enemy. And still the US never fought them alone.
So no, in pure fighting capabilities the US never really showed what it's really capable of. And therefore can't get compared to the roman empire.

One of my favourite song in the movies.. I watched this movie over and over again because of this song... Love from India..
