Jerry is the ONLY singer I know who could cross between rock, country and gospel.......and was absolutely GREAT at it all. A bit of a genius!!!! One of a kind!!!!!
I like this concert, Jerry Lee is serious, he just lost his last wife, a fews weeks before the concert. His performance on What d I Say is impressive. And No Headstone On My Grave is moving. Thank, Paul.
Yes, it was Austin City Limits-- I was there, too. Brilliant, Lively concert! I didn't realize he'd just lost his wife, but he was sitting backstage with a teenagre perched on his lap, fine with me! He looked happy.@@PaulGaston88
Thanks Paul. I was lucky enough to be there. Tickets for ACL were hard to get. A small intimate venue its a great place to see any act. I saw Willie Nelson there on several occasions. He actually played more songs than are on this tape. The producer asked Jerry Lee to come back, but JLL said he thought he couldn't do it any better.
I was there too. Free, first come, first served. I worked in the Main building at UT. I found out he was there that day. I ran there and the secretary went and asked people in the line if they had an extra ticket. One woman did, so I sat with her. It was the best show!
Was excited to see JLL inn Lafayette, LA not too many years ago. BUT, my granddaughter still in her teens was with me, and they wouldn't let her inside owing to age. They said we could sit outside on the porch tho. Loudspeakers out there. We waited a while but he was late driving down from Memphis. It was very hot and we finally gave up and left cause he didn't get there til 10.00. BIG regret of my life to have missed finally seeing him.
Thanks to You-Tube have been blessed to watch scores of JLL concerts all over the world. Watched and re-watched them all. This one might possibly be my favorite of all of them. Thank you, Paul. Keep digging into your files, please. How I start my day. (I'm a slow awakener in the a.m.. JLL gets me going.)
I was at Austin City Limits 1983.. Jerry Lee said it was his best show.....I think there's a lot of others good too. I am slow to get going in the morning. Maybe I can get some very strong coffee or turn one of the great versions of Whole Lotta Shakin' to get with it 🤣 Thank you for being here!! 🎹🎹🎹💜
@@PaulGaston88 Just saw that concert in Greece that somebody put up who had been there for the concert. (Athens) If you haven't seen it, it's an amateur recording but it is incredible, nevertheless. How that band and JLL can keep that pace for an hour is beyond human understanding. When JLL gets up from the piano and wipes his face with a towel at any of his concerts, he is DONE. No encores ever, and it is easy to see why he always says briefly, "thank you", and strides off with a stage escort to the nearest exit to recuperate in his dressing room. Or maybe he goes directly to the limo and outta there.
I was 21 years old and I worked at the University of Texas in the Office Of Accounting. I got wind of Jerry Lee Lewis a block away at the communications building.. filming the ACL show and I went running over there and after a while I got a ticket and I was there!!!
Thanks for this, Paul. Jerfry Lee was, the same year (1983) in Frankfurt (Germany). I was behind the scene and in backsrage room. Very nice for me. If I not mistake, the bass player is (in Austin City Limits) the great Bob Moore imself. Best wishes from France. Friendly. Jo
I met Bob Moore in Austin at a show in 1983 and 1984.. Also saw him at the Austin City Limits taping. Jerry Lee returned to Austin in December 1983, on the outskirts of Austin in a club that had a nice sized dance floor.. it was called, Double Eagle, then the next December. It was great..
There are many styles in his playing, and the band. I like all; ballroom, jass, blues, country/ gospal, etc. Like the cuffs; very Romeo and Juliet; For me. M.A.Mantle...Fredistar 😉
great concert... one of many "gotta be the best" from the master.. from this concert i have always had a special liking for "In the garden".. find his intonation on this song doing something special to my listening ears.... RIP, Jerry Lee.. rock on.. out there among the stars... we shall keep the many magic music memories alive for generations to come
