I was at this show with Dad. I lost Dad recently, this is a wonderful memory. Dad and I saw the Killer many times but this was our first time. Dad gave me his tickets to see Jerry Lee at the doomed 1959 Ipswich show.

I was there!!!!! Can’t believe this is on YT - what a find! What a Star - was there really anyone else in RnR that had this man’s talent, this man’s energy and this man’s persona? No one had such capability and real love for his music than Jerry Lee and on top of that he had that edge of a maverick about him - always. What a Star.
Agreed. I’m a woman but I remember when I was 11 and was taking piano lessons I wanted to play Jerry lee Lewis song for my recital (great balls of fire) and I tore that keyboard up too 😂 I could actually play it correctly. Jerry was my inspiration. But my teacher wanted me to play Beethoven. I didn’t want to play Beethoven.. I wanted to play a song by the man who is the entire reason I began playing piano. I saw Jerry on TV at age 4 and was sold - that’s what I wanted to play. Well come time for my recital my piano teacher says “you better play your Beethoven piece and don’t break out in Jerry lee Lewis style or you’ll scare the little old church ladies”. 😂 back in the 80s and 90s in our small town it was still considered out of line or the devils music I guess. Especially for a little lady with a dress and bow in her hair, so poised. I’d get home and kick my shoes off and rip the girly dresses off and play what I wanted on piano. Jerry was such an inspiration to me and always will be, as you see I often just watch his videos it reminds me of why I fell in love with music and piano to begin with. That man REALLY played that piano. And as Bruce said, Jerry didn’t play rock n roll he WAS rock n roll. RIP to the legend.

There will never be anyone even remotely like Jerry Lee Lewis. I missed seeing him live in Lafayette, LA, cause he was two hours late for the show, owing to his driving down from Memphis. My granddaughter was with me, & they wouldn't let us into the dance hall to wait, and we had to leave. One of the biggest regrets of my life to never see this irreplaceable American icon. Thank God for You-Tube so we can watch him perform over & over. & over.Waiting for the boxed sets of all his country, ballads, rock, and vintage gospel like no one else has ever sung better.
I saw one of his last shows...his whole family took up the entire 5 front rows...it was awesome. Had his car out front displayed too.

To me, the early 80's is one of the best JLL's period.
I feel like the early 80s for him was the peak of his potential. Years of playing knowledge and experience, but he's not so old that he is physically or mentally hindered.
In the 60s Jerry was right up there man. At the top. Still is in my book.

Anybody else notice smoke coming from those ivory keys? Jerry Lee didn’t have to worry about someone stealing his stuff... no one could replicate what he does. Even more impressive is how he just plays off the cuff. No way you can memorize all those licks. Unreal!

I have always wanted a time machine to travel back to 1980 and just live out my life watching concerts. I'm mostly a rock, synth, and metal guy, but this is a huge bucket list stop. I had his Sun get ewtest hits original pressing in the 80s as a kid, and wore the damn thing out. Thanks for sharing, watched the on the 100" and was almost like i was there

The best thing about this film of this incredible performance is the concentration on his hands - when I took my heavily pregnant daughter to see Jerry Lee she couldn't see his hands, so she sat on my lap. Ouch ! The best thing about being very old is that apart from Presley I saw all of the original greats live - all unforgettable and all super talented and all affordable on an average wage.
