Shows how he has come full circle. He owns the choice he made to join Treadstone, but regrets selling his soul to the program. Uses the dying words of the operative he killed in the first film to honor his memory, and in a way implore the man about to shoot him to question his own actions and not be a mindless government tool, fully expecting that he himself will be killed in that moment. Powerful stuff.

@Country of the Blind - the "easter egg" is that I have to travel through that station every day on my way to work, to a near by hospital :)
It was the same with Tomb Rider movie (2018, not the one with Angelina), when she was running through the city, and man... the places that she was running through... I had a lunch time every day on some of those locations, benches, streets and so on. In fact, she was running through one place that I had a lunch time every day, with my co-workers (literally 30 seconds walk from the main office). Talk about "easter egg" ;)

EDIT: Moby remixed his own song for the 2016 release, I consider it the definitive version. Has a darker vibe, brings with it a harder edge, I guess because after all, Bourne is becoming an old man after so many years as an exiled operative.. Beware old men in a profession where men die Young. He's more deadly than ever.

This is the pinnacle of these types of movies and something that set a standard Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible movies and the James Bond franchise has had to follow in order to catch up. The fight scene in Tangier is possibly the best ever scene of its kind and the energy, intensity and physicality throughout the film has, in my view, never been matched by any other film before or since. Only the John Wick films have recently come close. I enjoyed your reaction to the movie and agreed with a lot you said!

    • @kevinexline5392
      @kevinexline5392 Před rokem +1

I know I’m commenting quite late, but yes I agree. I would even venture to say that Damon’s Bourne is the epitome of great, great intelligence mixed with potentially some of the best close quarter combat I’ve ever seen. Wick, to me, is the greatest use of “gun fu” ever put on film, especially with the tactical gun training that Keanu went through to do the wide angle long action sequences. The only other franchise I’d add that relatively competes is The Equalizer series. Denzel’s portrayal of Robert McCall as a former special ops guy is really great. He uses his somewhat small surroundings to get the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible, even timing himself trying to hit certain marks.

Got sucked into it as a "Damon/Greengrass" loyalist and hating it's existence. Ended up leaving really liking the movie a ton, just wishing they had scrapped it being a "Bourne" spinoff because everything else worked really well as is. After the reboot and continued nonsense, Legacy, all that is left to criticize is "there's a really wonky CG shot a couple times". Trilogy is bulletproof is legit a classic now, and Legacy is a great tie in one off. You can feel just fine dropping the whole IP afterwards/apart.

For that chase in Morocco where Bourne leaps from one building to another building through a window, the DVD has a featurette about stunts in the film where they explain how they did that. I didn't realize it the first time I watched the film, but as Bourne makes the jump the camera literally makes the same jump and follows him into the other building. There was a cameraperson (probably a stuntperson) with a camera attached to them who made the same jump, only seconds behind Damon. It's really impressive when you realize how they did that.

Let's look up stuntperson on Meriam Webster - a definitive dictionary source. Oh look, it defines "stuntperson" as "a person who doubles for an actor during the filming of stunts and dangerous scenes : a stuntman or stuntwoman"
You get an F for your effort and an F- for the result. Try harder next time. Or just try at all. 🤣

He laughed and said something like "What would we call it, 'The Bourne Redundancy' ? There's no reason for it, this feels like a good place to end". In 2007 it struck me as one of _the_ most self-aware, grounded things an actor has ever said in interview. Let's just say that after seeing 'Jason Bourne' that opinion did not change :).

Like I've put in the previous two films, this is our "go to" film... to make us amped...like a comfort film. The intricate nature of the story and how the movies are SO tied to each other, like you've said.
We've watched the one with Jeremy Renner...and it didn't work for us. The reason why Matt Damon didn't come back to the franchise...is because they didn't want to work with Paul Greengrass...who directed the second and third movies. He said he'd come back WHEN Paul Greengrass came back.
SO, the movie is what it is.
The last movie, with Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon went through rewrites...plus one trailer showed a scene one way...and in the movie it was different...and people really didn't like what happened. We have NOT seen that one yet.
So, this is months later, but from Marie and I, we'd love to see your reaction to the Bourne movie with Jeremy Renner and then the last one. We ALL love the trilogy, but it would be interesting to see IF your view of the Jeremy Renner movie hits the same way as it did with us...and then we'd get the LAST Bourne movie to watch it, THEN watch your reaction.
SO, hopefully you haven't yet watched these two films without filming it. We've come this far, lets continue the entire way.
That is our hope. Talk to you, later.

There was a brief moment where you saw Jason jumping a wall that had broken glass on top and you questioned what it was for. In my anecdotal experience from being in parts of the middle east, it was used as a deterrent from climbing over the wall, like barbed wire on top of a fence.

The next movie without Jason fills in details of why Jason is so smart and agile from another character's point of view. Also a cool movie. Then the final movie wraps up the storyline of the 1st three movies .. a must watch. Fantastic. Please watch both.. they are worth your time!

Tom M: While The Bourne Legacy wasn't 'my' favorite, it had so much going for it! It was so intense throughout and I really enjoyed it, and how they expanded the world of elite assassins. I didn't understand the negativity concerning this excellent movie, but perhaps the audience was expecting to see Matt Damon. As far as the last film with Matt Damon, it was probably the weakest of the five films, yet I did enjoyed it and it told a very important nugget that most people were probably wondering about (I know I was wondering). And that is why David Webb volunteered in the first place. The last movies shows why.

I really like Legacy, Renner is great in it as is Rachel Weisz. Plus it doesn't try to make itself a copy of the first three movies. It does it's own thing in a really cool way but you can still see how it does all tie together. And little to no shaky cam is a big plus imo.

Yes, as a German viewer it was kinda funny, seeing Daniel Brühl walking into the movie shortly after the beginning and them having no reaction at all. Back at the time he had been one of the most famous and popular young movie actors inside Germany for a couple years already, but I don't think there was any notable international movie production on his resumee yet (and while at least the German "Goodbye Lenin!" had been pretty successful in Europe, I believe it was probably less noted in the US). Tarantino and Marvel came later of course!

@TBRSchmitt the fourth one is not with Jason Bourne but with another operative who was also trained like him but being the next
batch (stage), these operatives were also enhanced, its not a bad movie, the fifth one is with Jason Bourne but not as good as the three previous ones

  • @scottswenson383

Both 'The Bourne Legacy' and 'Jason Bourne' are worth watching. The Bourne Legacy shows some of the other programs under the same umbrella as Treadstone and Blackbriar and stars Jeremy Renner as agent Aaron Cross. Its pretty intense at times and is a good film if you get past it not being Bourne himself. Then Jason Bourne progresses things further and you learn everything about how he ends up in the CIA as an operative in the first place...there is a lot more to the story than we get in the original trilogy and really weaves the tapestry of the story together to form a much more complete picture.
