- Leaving Wakkanai. Forgot my rain gear in China. Mailed some extras back, but ran into some frustrating issues. Arrived to Cape Soya, took a dip. A quick review of some new additions to the ride. Japan to ride plan. Thinking about life on a alternative form of transportation. Setting up the new tent.

Just beautiful!!!
i love the tent .
Good to have you back mate. 🤙
SWEET new video's! I am glad you like the Hubba Hubba!
Finally :)
Awesome and I really enjoyed with all wonderful views.... Just ride safely
Didn't get to see if the new hat turns into a pirate hat. Arrr.
Interesting transportation options you are exploring.
Shoutout to Mr Dan, it was an awesome show
Amazing drone footage. Enjoying your videos. Missing Mats Reef Tank Videos.
I love Great Perrineese Dogs. Mine was 15 when he passed away. Most gentle dog with my kids growing up. They would ride him like a horse when little and he didn't care.
UPS the stuff, they will probably take it. Glad you're back!
Glad to see you being on the road again! :D
Didn't even notice it was a really long episode until it was done. ^^
Glad u are back on the road, hope to join the journey with u and can not wait to see u in taiwan !!!
That dip looked very refreshing MATT! Lol....we do eat so unhealthy here in the US. So easy to Pig Out. Your roll will be gone in no time at all!
Man podcasts are ideal when cycle touring, you not only get to see a lot of places but you learn a lot of facts and knowledge from whatever you like. I think when you go to Europe you'll find a lot of traces from the ancient times and you can appreciate that stuff much more because you know some stuff about it
Try to looking for a DHL services near you, S.F Express also offer services in Japan, both of them can taking care battery included items. Post office is more strict and old-fashion in general when comes to this kinda services.
Vlog binge watching you JaYoe Nation from Philippines
So glad to have you back!!!
Can't wait for you to get to Taiwan we're really curious. We're supposed to be there in March April next year.
sifujiefu 62 Taiwan is awesome.
Hope you find a post office that can send back your stuff. Annoying to carry unnecessary weight. The drone shots are amazing 👍
TkyoSam sent me ;-) This is awesome and I'll watch all-the-vids!!
+Eric Timmer cool Eric!
sorry to hear about the post office stuff, hope you can find a way to store it or can find a foreign express service. btw, the subscription has increased more than 10% since the triking pause, cool 😋
Matt, just try to send at the next town thru the Post office. That guy sounds sounds like a bit of a jerk really. Eat lots and lots of green vegetables to help increase your metabolism
lol this tent looks so modern(?) it makes your previous one so ghetto in comparison
in Australia is the same thing in the post office. it shit me a lot and also purfume is the same
Nice, really missed the beats with the drone shots.
And don't you know that the answer on all forms are always no if you want something done, lol. I'm pretty sure a lot of electronics with batteries in them gets shipped all the time without the postal office knowing.
Maybe try a private carrier company, UPS, FedEx or DHL?
your cycling video in Japan is an antidote to the very depressing reality of what's happening in the US. Local news is just filled with news of violence and criminality. love Japan, been there countless times. very civil people, immaculate environment, personal safety is never a concern.
At Japan Post, you can ship up to 4 lithium batteries internationally (but not to countries where batteries import is restricted like Italy, Germany etc) if those are inside the item according to their renewed restriction guide in 2015. i doubt the drone had more than 4 batteries in it. I had no problems sending items outside of Japan with batteries in it before, and I never put the batteries amount in the customs form when I was filling it myself. Probably the guy did not know the new restriction or there was miscommunication. Just try another post office and fill the form yourself, then you will be fine.
i would stick to 80 k in a day. anything more would me pushing it. i just did a long island NY to bellows falls VT. i did a 60 mile day and that was nothing but a coconut water day. my knees are good and they was throbbing. thats with 2 to 3 35/40 milers a week... just be careful bud!
Google maps DHL or KWE and drop off at them and ask them to ship for you.
Either must have an office not to far away.
Japan had major issues with the 787 dreamliner. They already had countless machines in service then the big battery problem came along and all 787's globally were grounded. It was a catastrophe for Japan so I guess they are very sensitive to the issue now.
👍
did you see a message in bottle while swimming in the near seaside !
SWEEEEEEET
Don't know if anyone else mentioned it, but your audio quality is excellent. No wind noises so far. Yes, you are slightly out of shape. ;-)
Great your back on the road!!!!
Of course I need to let you know I've missed Anny and Eva - maybe you could edit some vids sent to you by Anny - just thought - you know at the tail end of the vod
check my Instagram... i post lots of eva updates there.
Try to sell your stuff at a pawn shop. I mean if the plugs aren't different from Japan 😅 At least you can get some cash for it. Or you can try Kuroneko delivery service. They might be able to send it over to China. They have a site and good customer service.
I would try an set goals for yourself, and I am not talking doing 100km ever day. I am referring to the fact you are travelling to all these places an which you have never been before. So find or be introduced to 3 or more new things you have never seen before or did not know existed, things that locals know and rarely seen by outsiders. These are life goals that would stay with you forever.
I bring this up cause I have been watching Ed Pratt's Unicycle around the world and his main goal each and every day is not about living life each day, for him is seems to be " I must do X km's today" an he seems to be just missing so much of the journey he is on. To me the journey is more then just distance traveled it's about meeting new people, seeing new things, learning new stuff. In other words Life. So what you will from this and just have fun on your journey no matter what, don't make it about the 100km per day routine
how good dose it feel to be back on the road
Pyreanian mountain dog.:)
Good to see you're on the road again, think about your titles! Cycling Japan | ABCDEFG may not be the best
thanks boss.... yea... i found that there is a huge group of cyclists out there... and if i can tap on that demographic it is good. Cape Soya is a location... but cycling japan i would think would broaden the topic.. what would you have titled this episode?... if it was you?
and the battery shipment issues just got worse 'n' worse 'n' worse....
Bit of The Clash... kool.
I like Sargons history stuff.
Get an USB solar panel, something with battery pack to keep some of the electronics charged, but the cords running from it get to be a hassel...
I have a four panel '20 watt' foldable version that I wrap around backpack, so panels face three different directions/angles....
He's already got one.
Send the battery to China by Drone....
The problem with lithium batteries is not the flying, its that when they get pierced they explode. In shipping containers marked with "lithium batteries" this is no problem, they get special treatment. But a normal international package doesnt get that. It gets thrown around, driven over, pierced by a forklift or shreddered by sorting machine, normal daily accidents in package delivery business. Not compatible.
I discovered recently that it's a myth that lipo batteries spontaneously combust when pierced. They contain no pure lithium only lithium ions so there's no issues with lithium. They do have flammable electrolyte however and can give off Hydrogen when over charged or discharged. Combine that with the Spark given off if you short the positive and negative plates when you puncture it and they can catch fire. They actually work perfectly normally when exposed to air. The only issue you get is loss of electrolyte. I have 3 fully charged and fully functional lipo cells that are exposed to the atmosphere just beside me as I type this.
I never wrote it is the lithium exploding, please dont assume what is not stated explicitly. You are correct in assuming it is the flammable electrolyte and also the carbon electrode that catches fire. You call this a thermal runaway, where increasing temperature also increases the speed of the reaction.
If you read my original comment again you will see that nothing in there contradicts this or says otherwise. Anyway your post still adds good information so i will not be pedantic about that.
Sorry I wasn't questioning what you said. Most people including myself until a few weeks ago believe lipos are literally explosive. In reality discharged to the correct voltage they are pretty resilient. More so than Nickel metal hydride cells, which can combust when exposed to air yet are widely considered to be safer.
Hah, seems i just assumed you were assuming. Sorry for that.
Bears are scary.
Matt I have to disagree with you on this one as you are a guest in their country, and they do whatever they do for reason, even if we disagree with it... I see your point, but it is their country..! Love the videos, and can't wait to see more of it .. Ja Yoe..!
Interesting that a guy that cycles 1000’s of kilometres has concerns about weight....proving you cannot outrun the butter tarts.
jajjajajajjajjaja
that belly
How can loose weight when you keep saying JaYoe. Because JaYoe means add oil (or Fat). JaYoe!
+Sern Huynh lol!
In my experience with japan ... never go in an outdoor supply shop .. its a tariffed ripoff even more than it is a ripoff in the states .. they don't even carry a japanese supplement because nobody in japan would buy it. Basically, its just tax heaven. Most of the stuff is bought at huge discounts overseas or extra surplus. I have seen Japanese people buy 5 years outdated stuff at prices that were 3x the price in the states in Japan.
