  • Okay, to confess I'm not 100% sure this is the windiest place in Japan. But all the locals kept telling me it was the windiest place in all of Japan. So I'm going to choose to believe them.
Ryosuke makes a special appearance at the end of the video - so if you want to see him, skip to the end :)
Now that I've been to the Northernmost place of all of Japan (and the Northernmost train station - Wakkanai station)... I want to go to the Southernmost point AND the Southernmost train station in Japan (in Okinawa). Someday soon, I hope.

This brings back memories for me. My dad's from a small town called Esashi a few hours southeast of Wakkanai. I used to spend my summers there, but I'd fly to the airport in Wakkanai and get a ride from there. We'd always stop by Soya Misaki and grab some food there too. Then on the drive down, we'd so all those green fields with the cows and the bails of hey just like in the video.
It's been so many years since I last went and this is bringing back memories for me :)

Even with audio difficulties this is interesting and I was glad to see it. Japan is in such a genre of its own that its surprising to remember that it has neighbors. I should know better though cuz I was in Korea for two years, and people often made the midnight visa run to Fukuyama, which I guess is Japan's closest big city (with a Korean consulate) to their Korean neighbor.

A tip for dealing with wind noise... if your camera has the mic built in with the little holes in a tight group (like most cameras/camcorders do) then you can use one of those circular band-aids to cover it up. You'll still be able to hear your talking and will get rid of most if not all wind noise. Try it out and see what you think of it!

  • @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley

The weather you were in is my FAVORITE! I love gray skies. I love wind, especially when it's not too cold. And while I'm not one for going out much, I would definitely enjoy being outside more if that was the weather I got to have. Even if it's sunny there, all that wind must be amazing. I need to learn Japanese and move there, XD! Or find an equally remote-ish and windy place here in the States...(emphasis on remote...ish. I know Chicago is the "windy city", though I think that has something to do with the politicians. Either way, while the majority of my family lives there, I'd rather not live there myself :)

    Hi Grace,
I have a tip that might help you reduce wind noise. I've seen other CZcamsrs use "dead cats" (windscreens made of furry material) over their mics. This guy was able to make his own by cutting out a piece of furry fabric from his teddy bear rather than having to purchase fabric at the store. He made his own video showing how he made it and also provides a demonstration of how useful it was.
    czcams.com/video/zAZSckWorA0/video.html
You can try making one specifically for your camera. Hopefully you can find furry fabric at home that doesn't come from a teddy bear.
    I hope this helps.
