It’s freezing here in the U.S. ❄️
In 1981, I traveled to London with some colleagues from a radio station in San Francisco. We did a week of "remote" broadcasts from the Dorchester Hotel ... what a treat! We had afternoon tea on a couple of occasions, and I found that I'm much fonder of a "savory" tea, than one with cakes, and Petit Fours. In 1998, I went back to London with my Mom, who had always wanted to visit England. We went to the Dorchester for Afternoon Tea. Mom went for the sweets, and I fully enjoyed the finger sandwiches.
What a sweet thing you did for you mother. And you will have that lovely memory of the event.

As a Tourist from Afar (CZcams) the Savoy Tea has the superior look & style IMHO
Please boycott this hotel, it is owned by the dictator of Brunei, where the LGTB community is persecuted. Javi Caballero (Spain).
Congratulations to all chefs who produced the afternoon teas which chronicled the history from when it began.

Somehow I like the small independent tea houses best. Also like the more working class cafes serving breakfast and cheap coffee. Feels more real and the people are nicer. I like to set up a "expensive afternoon tea" at home during the Christmas season.

Totally agree! I'd much rather have afternoon tea in a setting that's cozy, whimsical, or naturally beautiful than a fancy hotel (although if Paul Hollywood creates the menu, I would make an exception : - ). My favorite party I ever hosted was a Halloween-themed afternoon tea, and I would love to do Christmas next! How lovely that you do that for those you love at Christmastime! 🫖❤🎄
WOWW!!!
That's awesome My Love!😲
You must be remembering all the happenings around while you were working in this place before..Looks so amazing place !!! GOOD JOB My Love!!!👍🏻👍🏻..muahh💋💋💋 🥰🤗
Love you more sweetheart 💕 Congrats Love!🎉🎉🎉
As a child afternoon teas at home were a special treat. From delicate sandwiches to home made pastries including brandy snaps.

Just visited London and went to two afternoon teas. I fell in love with the scones at the savoy, they have such soft refined texture. They served clotted cream, jam and fantastic lemon curd. As lemon lover, probably the best topping I had.
Lemon curd is fairly easy to make. You might want to give it a try.

Savoy and Dorchester are more for real customers, the Ritz is the overly busy tourist trap
Paul looks like a little kid. Bless his heart. ❤️
Thank you for the super post. On the 14th of January 1963, leaving the two star Beverley Arms Hotel, I started work at The Dorchester as a Commis d'Etage on the 8th floor. That's when it was a Swiss Hotel: the manager was Swiss as was the head chef, the head floor waiter and loads of other young men escaping Swiss military service. I also worked there as a night waiter, a fish cook and in the bill and control offices. Happy days.

I had High Tea years ago at the Empress Hotel in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Such an incredible experience. The scones and pastries were superb. The waiters wore kilts. They gave us each a box of their special Queen Victoria blend of tea to take home.
Yes! Was on a singing tour with my high school choir and our conductor had connections and arranged for us to do a small concert in the tea room to receive a discount on the high tea for 30 Catholic school girls from California.
you didnt had high tea... but afternoon tea. High tea is just another term for dinner/evening meal.
@@Herr_Flick_of_ze_Gestapo thank you for pointing that out. The Hotel did advertise it however, as High Tea.

I’m visiting London during Coronation Week and have booked an Afternoon Tea at the Dorchester, I’m so looking forward to it, one of my dreams coming true-afternoon tea at a posh London hotel. I know it will be expensive, but I’m sure it’s worth it.

I love the Dorchester Paul. I've never been to London but have heard of this hotel. The HIGH TEA is absolutely delightful. All the desserts and the tea is probably so wonderful. The fruit desserts are in the Victorian area. Queen Victoria. Love history. English history. Queen Elizabeth was a regal woman. I was very interested and loved her. I knew she was ill and she lived a hard life as Queen but she was a graceful and compassionate woman in her later years. Love your shows Paul!

I visited England in 1995 and had a scone with clotted cream for the first time.I ate only one scone with clotted cream and strawberry jam and it prevented me from sleeping till the dawn.My stomach could not digest the fatty cream well.If I could visit there again, I would try savory tea without scones.
My dear chap/Chapess. A savoury tea is not a tea without scones..:))
It's Gorgeous there, My mom told me The Queen was going to have Tea with us .
))))))))))).
I had a Major Brat fit in the Lobby " "You Lied to meeeee"🤣

I'm dying .......
rookie move - scones actually should go towards the end so the true deliciousness of the wee sandwiches and fancy pastries can be fully appreciated on an emptier stomach rather than wearily wedged in on top of a couple scones, ooof....
I indulge in the scones before the pastries ! only because they still have a little wormth from the baking . wrong possibly i know but very enjoyable.
@@stevewilson6390 staaahhhp... that sounds so good... hmmm... OK, I stand by my point for the order during tea, but here's a thought - I'd do it your way hot out of the oven as a separate scones-only Scone-Worshipping Interlude since hot scones are certainly worthy of worship...
Wow wow thanks for your comment on my youtube page . how are you?. I am interested in you. I will love to know more about you!
The Dorchester is magnificent, but whenever this was filmed it had to be a few years ago because Hollywood is quite a bit thinner unless the cameras are working miracles to cover up. Seen him this past Aug 2022 on a street of NYC and I went into shock to see how huge he had gotten. My goodness!
Yes that's right old videos with that name of the series and indeed he is thicker now as he appears in the new season of Bake Off UK
Well to give him due, he's 56 and been making pastries for decades! ...and there's an old saying about 'never trust a thin chef'..
All those cakes he’s scoffing 😂
@@arriesone1 Absolutely correct, the cake, the greasy pub grub, and the booze. Health wise the man is a walking time bomb.
Monica do you realise how offensive your comment sounds? I suppose you are perfect? Best not to make personal comments. He is lovely and he made a nice video.
When worked there in pastry section the baker only done the bakery not the pastries or afternoon tea……..
Jam first.
The reception is dull and dark. Lacks colour. Just change the cushions and add colourful lilies. Change the wall paintings and curtains. And furniture
My great grand Uncle Sir Algood Stickapopple was very fond of the Dorchester's pickled pork pies,he spent an afternoon there shortly after the great war,and guess what ?fifteen Belgians entered, much the worst for wear, shouting and roaring and belching, they were asked to leave by the head chef, they pelted pork pies at one another, no breeding those Belgians, none ! Algood considered the only good Belgian was one who returned home,or maybe better if he take two Dutch with him
❤nächstes Mal würde ich gern mitgenommen werden
Beautiful! I didn't see Paul eat anything though, disappointing..
