I've only worked with titanium a few times, but one thing i learned quick, is to clean up all the dust around the work area and be careful. Titanium burns white and is almost impossible to put out... You'll burn down your shop if your not careful... Great video, take it easy...

Reminds of the time I discovered that aluminum foil is flammable.
It was one of my more enjoyable kitchen fires.

Hello Chris, titanium needs some oxygene to ignite and no graphite powder (reducer): it's easy to see when the flame blows the powder out of the crucible, in the air the powder burns easily. Perhaps you can blow the powder directly into the torch's flame : you would obtain a sparkle fountain

If you get titanium chips from machining or cutting processes those burn much better. Don't burn em in the shop tho.

Chris, you need to get a hold of some magnesium, preferably chips like off of a milling machine. They will ignite much more readily than titanium and support combustion much more readily. Don't put water on it unless you can be about 50' away. Dashboard/steering column assemblies often have magnesium in them and light up like a christmas tree during a car fire. Especially when the FD hits them with an 1-3/4" hose. Fun stuff.

I've been generating some titanium chips and dust. I also have some magnesium powder/chips on hand. I know you have to be careful maching titanium because an ignited chip can ignite a pile of chips, just like magnesium. So obviously dont let it pile up because if it starts your unlikely to put it out in time. I think one of the first Crew Dragon capsules recovered later exploded on a test stand because of something loosely related. I think the explanation was hypergolics from the thrusters getting into a titanium valve and reacting. Violently. But under more common conditions like using a propane torch, titanium only seems to want to burn while its being blown away by your torch. Figured i'd try mixing ti and mag dust together and seeing what happens, maybe try carfully filing in a ferro rod if the ti and mag dont work. It may require an oxidizer, then that gets into a whole other thing thats just to much trouble. I guess I could just look it up but that feels like cheating, though definitely safer. We dont have wood where I come from so we are forced to burn rocks, bad neighbors, obviously plastic cuz that shits everywhere. Or maybe I do have trees and I'm just trying to discover a reason for why the hell I care about this in the first place. Salt peter maybe? Ughh..... our poor families.... what the hell are they getting into now is frequently uttered around peeps like us. Also lighting camp fires may not require tungsten vaporizing temperatures but it sure looks cool😁
