    I tried Stephen King's routine at one point when I was young. Even 30 years ago I felt aware he started his career at a level of privilege which was becoming scarce. At the same time, the basic lesson of applying the same work ethic as a farmer to each day proved extremely valuable. At the end of each day, it is better to have written something you don't entirely like than to have nothing to work on tomorrow.

    @3:20 I really appreciate this video and your sharing its purpose. I don't think I have a story in me even though I did study writing. It makes me feel like a failure sometimes, but I have so much respect for anyone writing a novel and for artists and creators! Thank-you so much for sharing your journey, inspiration, and encouragement. I also really liked your including the excerpt from the King and Martin interview, and your conclusions regarding developing a positive mindset is encouraging. And the last line is so brilliant. "Don't ever let it be fear that is stopping you. We all want to hear your voice."

      Your comments always make my day, thank you Laura 🥹🙏🏻 please don’t ever feel like a failure. Just because you study something doesn’t mean you have to pursue it. Thank you for being here in my journey 🥰🙌🏻

    Long days and pleasant nights, bookslinger, I see Gan made another one to write the Macroverse, hope the original author Mr. King will be watching this.

    I am still in the process of figuring out HOW I write. I'm pretty sure I'm not a panster, now, tho. Now I'm trying to figure out how to move forward as an outliner.

    • @AlyLourim
      @AlyLourim  Před 8 měsíci +1

      That’s totally fair. I would find an outline that fits your story best whether it’s the hero’s journey or an act structure. It’ll help you key in what your chapters need to be, why and when things happen ☺️🙌🏻

    I have adhd too and I hadn’t wrote anything anything in like almost 1 year and a half…. Because I kept letting my insecurities get the best of me so I never continued my novel and getting to my desk to write on my computer get har at some day…. I think this routine is a good one I might not get up that early though because being outside for a walk at 6 where I am wellll not really great but maybe at 7 am then go on the walk then write …. I will see also I love the whole « do nothing or write » idea but with adhd can be pretty hard

    • @AlyLourim
      @AlyLourim  Před 2 měsíci

      Good luck! I totally understand. I feel like with adhd the hardest part is starting and everyday I make myself sit there and reread what I wrote 9.9/10 I end up writing. You got this 😉 and I always tell myself if I try for 5 mins and I still can’t get a word out I stop. It’s all about training the brain to show up 🙌🏻

    Pretty good video. I'm suprised you can write 1000 words at a time, I can't write as fast as I do anything else.

      I surprise myself as well. Now if I could stick to daily writing vs 2-4 days a week haha

    Maybe the thing that made Stephen King "the Stephen King" is his mindset, driven by nothing but his unbreakable will.
    Tried to do that most of the time, but my mind just want to collect things one isolated piece by one isolated piece every day, until I realized I've wrote enough material to finally build the world, so to speak.
    Still not there though. Still not enough, still not enough. More info. More facts. More idea. Not now, next time maybe.

    • @AlyLourim
      @AlyLourim  Před 8 měsíci +2

      I totally understand this feeling. It is a big feat to write a book let alone create an original world. You got this 💪🏻 I always remind myself of why I’m writing this book and why the main character is who they are and why their arc is important for readers 🙌🏻🥹

    I honestly feel that Stephen King is incredibly overrated as an author, but if anything he demonstrates the power of sheer volume.
    If you crank out an absolute f*ck-ton of writing, then some of it will inevitably be at least decent.
    The less decent writing along the way? That stuff will just become grill for the rumor mills of "controversy" which ironically ends up beneficial as well.

    • @RallyTheTally
      @RallyTheTally Před 8 měsíci +1

      I think King is a great writer, but I see him as a bad person (and that whole pedo thing in IT was really.... Worrysome.) but that doesn't matter either way.

    • @AlyLourim
      @AlyLourim  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Yeah that’s a huge reason why I won’t read that book. But work ethic there is something to learn from him 🙌🏻
