- How I built my Star Wars BB-9E Droid from Star Wars The Last Jedi ,which was used in the video last week with Colin Furze and his life-sized Kylo Ren's TIE Silencer. This video is sponsored by eBay. Check out last week's video to see BB-8E in action: • Epic Stars Wars Projec...
This Star Wars BB-9E builds is similar to my BB-8 Build, but was designed to have enough traction to drive on grass. All the parts were purchased on eBay so I used 3D printing for all of the custom cosmetics and mechanics.

Top job James Top job
Both!
colinfurze
Rydddddd
colinfurze
Haha u both are awesome
both of u are my inspiring me
Nicely done. Your BB designs have improved immensely from the earlier versions.
RollDeBonz2112 Nah, the first one was perfect!
But seriously, I thought the first one was so cool with just the head doing all the work. Now these things are seriously movie-ready. No way I'd second guess this on the Red Carpet.
This has been one of the most educational videos I think I've ever watched from you. Really love the mores struder. Hope some more cost friendly printers get set ups like it.
Astounding James, simply astounding
That drive Wheel is a brillant design, big motor with not that much space used will keep that in mind
It's great to see the improvements in your process over the V1 BB8
Hello, James. I love watching your builds/video. There’s something about them that keeps drawing be back time-after-time. Thanks for your work and sharing you knowledge!
God, I love watching these.
Man, you are amazing! Thanks to such bright guys as you, we might finally start to see robots in everyday life!
Awesome stuff. Nice to see the full power of 3D design and printing being used.
Haven't seen one of your videos for a while so this build is an amazing come back
Beautifully produced video, James! A pleasure to watch with the accelerated shots done expertly.
Excellent work, James! I can really see the progress you’ve made since BB-8. Keep being awesome!
Filament in a Dremel - best tip I've learned all week. Going to try that to fill the back gaps of a couple of my panels.
The effort you put into this is extremely impressing me
This whole thing looks so slick, a really refined mechanism. Great to see!
And it's a BB-9E for real! Loved it.
That jig is such a simple solution to a potentially annoying problem, well done! 3D printing really is the future of prop building, very interesting to see a whole droid's body being made from filament. Fantastic!
So cool. Love the ball design. Really strong.
Wow this droids inside is so tidy its beautiful you've learnt a lot from your other builds.
Wow that internal motor/wheel combination is ingenious. Even this droids mechanics belong in the star wars universe. Amazing work!
Aah, a video like the old days! And very nicely done. Really neat. Well done, James, most enjoyable...
I find it most amazing how each iteration of this "ball droid" you have made so far has a different design of the internal mechanics.
You and Colin never cease to amaze me and make me want to do what you do
Thanks for another extremely thorough and professional how-to walk-through!
Lots of helpful tips here - often applicable too for modelmaking/engineering/crafts more generally.
I love the video. The Dremel filament trick is amazing, never thought about it, WOW.
This is amazing a definite improvement from your last B.B.8
It's almost like a LEGO Technic set, the way everything fits together!
Another brilliant video. Thanks James.
Love the way you filled the gaps with the friction method
so smart to use the batteries that power it as the weight to move it. Super well designed
That is brilliant, well done. Looking forward to the next instalment. 👍🏼😊
Wow James! Your best video yet! So much progress
That's so awesome James! After watching your BB8 series this seems like a cinch... I really like that friction welding trick!!
the friction welding was an awesome idea! I've never seen that done before. I need to try that myself.
That drive motor and gearbox look like something straight out of a FRC robot. I like it!
I'm pretty sure they are both cim motors so Yes
Jayden Gaydosh yeah they are. You can see the andymark label.
Absolutely genius. Well done.
I love pretty much everything about this video! The design of your sphere is awesome, I love the internal mechanics... and the idea of a square axel in a round hole made me smile. Thanks for sharing this!
do you know what motor he used?
Have you thought about how to make this project open source?
I would really like to repeat this project.
Nobody who saw the previous bb 8 videos will doubt that this your original design but rather an evolution of those earlier models. very nice
500k subs!!! Well done James!
this is the first video I ever saw on your channel.
I found collin furze from a video of top 10 inventions on CZcams, then came here from the tie fighter build.
that was a while ago,I thought I'd revisit this build.
brings back memories😊
Good job James I might consider building this
Wow you stepped your game up since I last bb8 droid. Awesome!
Great build and nice paced video
So satisfying seeing you spread the Wood fill + paint xD.
GREAT build!! I want to make one now xD
Welding gaps in 3D prints with a dremel and a bit of filament... that's a brilliant idea.
Awesome video James! I love that even though this video is sponsored nothing about the video feels different from your normal content.
amazing as always
great video :) it's fun to see the progress from the first BB-8 to this.
Awesome video as always
You so good at your job, it's very satisfying to watch your's videos ^^
This is a much appreciated early Christmas gift!
Your Iron Man Suit and the use of a LulzBot Taz printer is what brought me to your channel originally,
though the BB-8 series kept me coming back and and got me to subscribe.
It goes without saying, that I am very excited to see you've created another droid!
Keep up the great work James! :-D
Thank you heaps for the friction welding idea its gonna be very helpful
Very nice! Great job, man.
Brilliant James. Well done. I know building a BB style drone is your specialty but you really stepped up on this. I know you cut down quite a bit for brevity but you did a great job of hitting all the major notes.
I love your design of the central wheel. It almost makes me think with your board designs you could build a mono wheel board.
Awesome build and video
I've watched other channels like this one but xrobots is a whole new level 🤓
Spectacular!
Technical, good stuff.
Excellent Work Very Cool
Awesome work.
Inspiring work! :)
Luvly Art Work bro.
This is so cool!!!!!!! In part 2 can you leave a list of the parts bought on ebay and the files to the 3d printed part_
some amazing tips thank you for sharing
So Awesome
it's an awesome project !!!
First time I've seen that "welding" techinique! Very cool! Also, never saw you using that cardboard techinique! Temperature contolled 3d printers might be the next thing
Great job!
Awesome video! This make me so happy :)
Awesome !
Amazing how quickly you’ve made this robot. And you used an andymark cim motor
"Stick welding" with filament = brilliant!
Good job 👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Brilliant!
Fantastic!!
It's beautiful.
Hi James I seen you on Colin's video and thought you Darth ball robot was amazing 👏 I subbed definitely
I really like your videos and explainations in your videos
Amazing!
is the stl file for sale or on the web?
This is awesome! Hey, you got cadfiles for the sphere?
I thought you have used the previous BB-8 motor unit for BB-9E, instead, you have made a better one. Amazing job!
I've been watching your BB-8 videos and was thinking that maybe instead of using the spinning ring of coins, maybe use weights that move side to side to tilt it, but my thoughts were of weights mounted on a rail that would slide left or right to tilt and thus turn, but I think your idea in this video is somewhat more elegant than mine, which I'm a huge fan of.
Also, watching your videos has made me begin to convert my attic into a workspace, within which I'm going to build my first 3d printer and also get more involved in robotics, so thank you
James Bruton I appear to have missed that, although it does make a lot of sense now that you say that, I'll have a look :3 and absolutely, I plan to continue doing so
Hi James what kind of mass do you use for fill the filament gaps? Great Project you are awesome...
Great job! looks very professional. Next thing you know Lucas Films will be asking you to build some for them.
James, superb work, as always.. Are files to print avaliable to the public ???
Love your work can you tell me what software do you use to build designs.
OMG
You’re a master.
Love this style. Unfortunately it means less problem solving week to week and less fan input. But the result is less parts and a more streamlined experience. Really cool to see SOOO much done in just one part. Very much looking forward to the next part!
James Bruton haha no problem, keep the suspense building ;). Awesome content as always. You deserve every sub 👍🏻
Superb
So amaaaaaaaaaaazing
I like the Dremel trick
Question about the circle panels. On the inserts for the circles, why did you align the seams in the same direction as the circles? Wouldn't it be a stronger going perpendicular to each other?
Top job james, very interesting design you have chosen. Are there any plans available? maybe even STl's to print? i might start my own BB9-E if so . Anyways, love your stuff
holy shit this is real engineering omg ! You could work for anyone on the planet !
Great work 👍.
Can I know how much kg of filament was used in printing the whole droid ?
Well damn..I'm watching a video on how to make a Star Wars droid and inadvertently learn how to fix a leaking plastic car radiator with my Dremel tool and some filament :-0..Amazing lol. Great build on the BB-9E Droid btw, you are nothing less than brilliant Sir! :-)
Do you have like patteon, where you have your 3d designs for members?
