Yeah but the prices would go up because of the software and hardware required to do so.
Whoever says that the price just to get the droid is too much, its not the droid youre paying for, its the experience.
Experience of building an ikea kit... sure it justify the price... For the light saber I could understand a slight bump in price due to the actors and the "light show". But this ? come on. Disney is so greedy and people still buy from them same story with apple.
Ps: for this price point you could have other good robots in the market, maybe not from star wars but still.

$100 for one of those isn’t a bad price, actually. A company by the name of Sphero has made a mini (non-customizable) version of that for $50 more, so the fact that the bigger Disney equivalent is actually cheaper is a HUGE plus! I’d love to go there someday and make my own. But I guess that’ll remain a dream for now.

We are a little freaked out though that everything in the land will interact with them. It’s amazing, but also slightly terrifying. Haha!!

Robert Lively well let’s face it, the rule exists for a reason, there would be so many situations ranging from people being basically harassed to kids losing their droids in the crowds to people kicking and breaking someone’s droid either on accident or on purpose. Long story short, it was probably best just to prevent them from being out in the first place.

They actually do not interact with the other droids. What actually happens is when you get to different parts of the park there are different beacons that send out a signal to the droids to make their sounds activate and it gives the appearance of the droids interacting.

I personally feel the cost for the droid is worth it. You get the experience of choosing your parts, building it and you get to have a remote controlled functioning droid. Not the most complicated of remote systems, but it is something. You get to see it interact with other droids, too, albeit minimal. The plastic is sturdy, too. Certainly a great gift for a fan regardless of age. However I will say that the R2 units are MUCH better and easier to control than the BB8 units. BB8 units are very wobbly.
They need to make the parts more diverse though. From what we saw, there aren't many different designs, it might result in people having the same bb-unit 90% of the time which kind of suck, imo.
