“it’s been worse” is a terrible excuse for any horrible situation. you can’t disregard a bad situation just because there’s something else that’s worse. that’s like telling a grieving person whose grandmother died that there’s people who have been through worse so they shouldn’t feel sad. you have no empathy and it shows.

@@Rose-xe4ct i understand where you're coming from but i think some people find this actually helpful, in terms of the intention and substance, which is about building resilience. I also think (as a woman) there is a bit of a gender gap on such thinking. I know that I've seen situations where a man would complain and other men would basically tell him to man up with no empathy. And I'd think how awful I'd feel if that was me, only to be caught off guard when the man being addressed would say this "tough love" (not that he'd call it that) was exactly what he needed to snap him out of it.
Now I'm not saying that all men are the same.. all generations, regions, individuals etc.. but nevertheless i have seen this dynamic play out enough times to make a note of it.
i agree that in terms of how women are conditioned, this kind of thing is completely unintuitive because we are taught to empathise first and take care of other people's feelings (even if not all women are empathetic). It therefore might come across as very harsh depending on context.
i don't think it needs to be viewed as completely devoid of empathy. It can also be a very generational thing, per the grandfather who had to walk 20 miles tp school in waist high snow and so on. Yes it can be a sort of one upmanship but some people will have grown up hearing this from their elders and aren't without a sense if humour about it. They don't actually want young people to suffer and if encountered with the plight of an individual teen or child would, i believe, be kind and caring. A seemingly gruff attitude can belie significant depths if patience and kindness. People of older generations might take a general view that children are being mollycoddled, and they aren't necessarily wrong in various respects.
So while i do appreciate where you're coming from I don't think the only possible conclusion is a lack of empathy. i do understand though that suffering can be easily dismissed by people not experiencing it directly. i myself increasingly regard my childhood, which certainly had difficult aspects, as being a very lucky one. i cannot even begin to imagine growing up with a combination of social media and plague. i think the more relevant question to ask is who has managed to get through this period with their equilibrium remaining just fine.
OP is not wrong though in some important sense. The point is not to disregard children but try to maintain overall perspective.

Yeah, my middle school went from a relatively normal, run of the mill school, to an insane asylum. The majority of the kids in my school ' joke ' about depression, and it's hard to tell whether this is a way to ask for help, or if they're trying to be funny. We went from having no threats, threats never even use to cross our minds;to having a total of 4 threats and one lockdown. People in my school constantly tell others to 'kill themselves', so much to which I am desensitized to it. They joke about inappropriate things with minors, addiciton, and sometimes complete gibberish. There was this one guy in my Geometry class who started holding an entire interview with another person in the class. This other person had no clue what he was blabbering about. There are a lot fights, and a general hostility in the school. Sometimes I don't belive that I am going to the same school I went to in 6th grade. My friends attempted to make a list of Normal people, and it took a great deal of effort to 10 people on it. I have now acquired anxiety, not due to the pandemic, but due to the aggression, threats, and hostility present at my school. This is most likely due to the repercussions of the pandemic.

At 50, having horrible, socially disruptive and at times crippling bipolar disorder for 40 of the 50yrs…AND being able to get through life without crying about it, just goes to show the generational difference. I’m from a generation where no one was given participation awards, pats on the back and clapping hands for things that all kids should do anyway (cleaning rooms, doing homework, wiping your butt) or living a life through “likes” on social media and our parents actually said “No” or “You can do better if you try” or “it’s ok you didn’t win, just work harder next time”. People have seriously lost the plot. Everyone just HAS TO BE a special snowflake.
And the 20yr old kid on here who said she’s autistic (fun fact, most people with anxiety disorders, mood disorders are generally on the Autism/Asperger’s spectrum, though not enough to be considered actually Autistic) and they made her eat lunch in the basement…please stop lying. You know it’s not true, we all know it’s not true.
For those of us who are actually mentally ill, all of you/your whining little kids are just going through the adolescent experience. ALL adolescents go through anxiety and mood swings. It’s called hormones and discovering yourself as an individual. When people, parents and the media pander to this idea that there is no distinction between mental health and mental illness, all these teens start thinking they’re in some special club (that being the club of First World Problems) and it negates and takes away from those of us who actually struggle day to day.
    Please stop.

and maybe those children developed emotional problems they never dealt with and passed down to their own children. Just saying. Yes, resilience is good and overall survival is what matters but it doesn't mean we need to pretend there aren't negative effects in real terms. Whether or not these effects should be swept under the carpet in a perceived act of courage, I can't say. Certainly there is a generational divide when it comes to "snowflakes", but most of us have survived a teen angst phase and can surely spare at least a kind thought. People who survived those other conflicts or diseases weren't surrounded by social media. Parents didn't have their noses permanently glued to their phones. Frankly there are almost certainly real advantages for anyone who isn't growing up in the current climate. I'd absolutely hate coming of age in the current environment. i haven't been lucky in various ways but i consider myself incredibly fortunate on that account.

      It really won't.
I took Connections Academy which was an online charter school. It wasn't a good effect on my grades as it was harder to get help. It was also the issue of not being able to socialize. I didn't want to go to public school because of the emotional abuse but at the same time, I wasn't having real conversations.
The problem with school choice comes more down to 2 things. The bigger problem is it becomes more about the parent's decision instead of the student and I mean if the student wants to do it then that's fine but my problem also comes down to private schools and the discrimination they can get away with. The other problem is that school choice also puts a toll on public schools by not putting students in public schools the tax dollars also go down for that public school.

Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. He loves humanity very much. So much as to die to save us from Hell fire, if we believe and trust in Him and do His will.
He will make you a new person by washing you in His precious Blood.
His arms are wide open. He will receive you as you are.
Don't die as a wretched sinner when Jesus Christ has paid it all for you. He will take away that evil addiction and give you a new heart. You will become a loving, confident and happy person. Have you been abused, battered and hated?

Most of the time when they refer to that they probably will respect them identifying as female. But LGBTQ they are mostly referring to gays, lesbians, and bisexuals. Yes, quite a number of teens are openly gay with Gen Z having around 11% that identify as such.

    • @t13596
      @t13596 Před 2 lety

But it's not a mindset. When you go on social media you do see people who want to make their opinion known and really LGBTQ teens do see that as well. And also with the political world. Quite literally books are being banned from public schools for saying LGBT people exist. So it is like if they are paying attention to the political world with school board meetings like some schools don't acknowledge their students could be gay and you have people who think those things are being pushed on our students and it just shows how these people literally want to hide their existence. Stuff like this does play on a teen's mental health as well and trust me I live in Indiana and when Mike Pence literally tried so hard to make sure same-sex marriage remains illegal that really did take a really hard toll on me. They are paying attention to the political climate and their rights as human beings and it's not going to stop them just because someone doesn't acknowledge they exist or don't accept them.
