- DESCRIPTION
Blacktown is a suburb located in Western Sydney, 37 kilometres away from Sydney’s Central Business District. In the mid-1980’s, drugs, crime and high levels of unemployment were rife in the streets of Blacktown. But it was one particular night that changed everything…

The part that really got to me was the cows congregating around Anita in the field. I grew up working on dairy farms and cows are so curious and they know when something’s out of the ordinary. They were standing vigil next to that poor girl till someone found her.
We had a cattle farm years ago and I can tell you cows have the most gentle caring natures and will trust you with their calves if they know you. They would have understood Anita was in trouble and watched over her.
@@coreencasey5109 Yes, I miss working around them. Gentle, curious and intelligent, in their own way. There’d be 50 head going into the barn at milking time and they each had their own stanchion they’d go to every time.
@@coreencasey5109isn’t a lot of dairy produced by purposely keeping the cows pregnant almost their entire lives and removing everything calf she gives birth to from the mother cow, though? How could they trust dairy farmers or workers? I thought they moo in distress because they miss their calves.
@@Tsumami__🙏. Male calves are surplus. So they usually end up killed or kept for veal, still killed as a baby. So you are spot on. There’s a documentary “dairy is scary”. A lot of cruelty to these poor cows who live a short miserable life. Thank you for pointing out the fact, how can they trust the farmer? As he sends them to their deaths eventually. Cows are loving and trusting. It’s sad.
I find it so ironic to be found by such revered and placid creatures due to the acts of other brutal and sadistic creatures. I bet the cows were crying.
I basically cried through the entirety of this story. You can just feel the pain throughout. Hurts my heart.
"May her light shine forever."
Anita's case was nothing short of devastating. The families went through such horrors and pain. Thank you for presenting it respectfully.
Your thoroughness and intricate details puts the mainstream media to shame. They only gave the public a tenth of the information related to this most horrific crime. Bravo to you! I live not too far from this crime, so somehow it affects me quite deeply.
Fotini Fotini me too. I visit Anita often and lay flowers for her and the family
@@Handleshandler❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is a devastating story, thank you for covering her case so thoroughly, it really brings some justice to see all of the process gone through instead of just the investigation, it helps to see the extensive destruction caused by sick individuals selfish desires, and thankfully some retribution towards the end to see them locked away and the consequences afterwards.
HOORAY !!!!! 22nd Feb 2019 . A man involved in one of Sydney’s most notorious murders has died at Long Bay jail hospital overnight. Michael Murphy, 65,
He was unrepentant to the end apparently. Rot in hell
@@Adrian-ju7cm yeah, I read that too. Murphy had been in an out of hospital for about a year and was recently asked if he would apologise to Cobby's family.
Quote: "Why would I f**king apologise to anyone while you b******s leave me in this f**king [hospital] room and treat me like this?" he responded.
@@MissBizarra yeah you would think after all these years he would have tried to work on himself and understand the wrong he did or maybe psychopaths can't be rehabilitated
@@Adrian-ju7cm I believe psychopaths/evil people can't be rehabilitated. They lack of empathy and emotional feelings.
@@MissBizarra some harp on about there hard upbringing it makes no difference just because you had a hard life is no excuse to treat other people like shit.
One of the BEST podcasts I've ever heard regarding this beautiful young lady, Anita. When I first heard about this case, I couldn't get it out of my head and it really upset me. Well Done, this was absolutely amazing!!! The details were astounding 👏👏👏👏
Dear John Francis, may you find peace in this life, along with the parents and all involved with Anita ❤.
John adored Anita. You can tell he just was so in love with her! I couldn’t even imagine how he went on with his life. Let alone her parents. They were a beautiful loving family. Her death has affected so many lives. It just goes to show you how beautiful a person Anita was. I don’t understand how something like this even happens. How evil can people be.
Sounds more like he was obsessed. Who acts like that at a funeral? That’s absurd behavior.
@@Tsumami__ No it's not. Your picture and everything under your description shows that you Lack Godly Wisdom, Common sense, morality, sanity, purity, and that even as a so called atheist (which is literally impossible to be), you hold no water in your absent research.
@Tsumami__ You can't have been to many funerals then or perhaps you are simply missing a heart! Grief takes many forms, but perhaps you are too young to realise this!
Very sad story.....you really brought Anita and her loved ones to life; could really relate to them.
R.i.p Anita 🌹. Just heard about this, absolutely heartbreaking. No words can describe how upset I am for this poor girl and her family 💔 And his auntie was so brave
Another moving true story told with so much detail and thoughtfulness. Feeling sad but thank you
If she wasn't such a thot and had settled down, she would be alive
Fluked onto this site, seriously the best true crime! Love how it’s not about the caster but about the victim everytime! Well done mate! Now struggling to find episodes I have yet to listen too! Aussie made but world wide cases!
No parent deserves to hear about their child's ordeal via the radio. It's absolutely disgusting.
Why were all the cows standing round the body?
@@elmarievallun6884um, her comment wasn’t about the cows. But there are two other commenters in the replies that specifically talked about the cows gathering near her.
It’s terrible in that sense, but the reality is her case would never have received the attention it did if it wasn’t for that autopsy report being read on the air.
@@elmarievallun6884
Cows are sentient beings.
@@elmarievallun6884because cows aren't apathetic assholes and understood the body in the field needed attention. They stood vigil until a human came.
The beginning sounds really eerie. A great audio of this shocking murder. I don’t recall a parallel case in the uk of this nature.
Although this crime took place years ago, I live thousands of miles away, this story had a profound impact and I will pray for Anita Cobby and her husband John today and remember them in my prayers from here on out.
What a sad story. RIP, Anita.
Brilliant work thank you ps Excellent narration.
Very well done.
Travis showed all th signs early on of a psychopath. Surely he's mother would have know her son was a bad egg.
As an american several australian cases stuck with me...lindy chamberlin and jill meager the foremosr....hadnt heard of this till now and this is by far the worst 😢
Good job mate 👍
Remembering the day on the 38th anniversary of; prayers of comfort for John and Catherine.
We must never forget Anita….lessons to be learned right there.
Poor Anita Cobby
Best crime uploads...period
I am honestly amazed that John lived. Poor guy went thru hell and survived.
Anita's killers must NEVER be released.
I’m glad the inmates stuck bare wire up his ass in that jail Michael Murphy was in and couldn’t sit down. I wish more of them got treated like that. I read in this book about Australian prisons that the one Murphy brother was getting raped and other stuff done to him. The author of the book was James Phelps or its in abo henery book can’t remember.
Fucking psyco.
Excellent broadcast, sensitively presented! Thank you for giving the victim, her husband, the families and the police and detectives as well as the prisoners their dignity as human beings. It seems that at least one of the prisoners turned to God. If they had all received the death penalty, that might not have happened.
Thank God John survived. It was the unexpected happy ending. All praise, too, for both families.
Absolutely horrific crimes I've ever heard and watched. The poor family suffered so much pain because of the crime committed by the brutes! Her partner will never be the same man again. They were just starting their lives together and Boom! Shes gone just like that! God bless them all.
Great voice for podcast.
Thanks Karen
True Dat.
I worked for a nurse caring for her children and Anita was a nurse ..i remember when anita was murdered it was such an horrific case .also.Janine Balding was from wagga we lived just up the road from her family in wagga and one the murders was a girl from my town who turned states witness and still walks around our town today free has kids and is alive unlike anita and Janine 😢
Gives me nightmares
That young man and his sister and older brother who tried to help anita were bloody heros ❤ and ifthe idiots who wrecked the phones at the station anita would have rang her father for a lift home 😢
Oh God!!!!!!Why why why why this happened 😢 hope John Cobby is doing good ...no words to say more
He did remarry and have kids. As fate would have it, he was having a medical procedure a few years ago when one of these butchers landed in the hospital after some inmates beat the crap out of him. He didnt kmow he was there but later he said 'if I had I would have killed him and gladly taken life in prison''
Such an awful tragedy. What happens to people that they are able to do this to humans and animals??
Their mothers are the type who insist children are born with empathy and spend their time coddling their sons because its easier to hand them shit then actually raise a human being.
Why aren’t more of these animals locked away without chance of parole ???
Because prison is a money making business dear.
R.I.P Anita Lorraine Cobby!, My Eldest brother graduated Evans High!, Year 12!, 1981!, YOUR LIGHT SHINES FOREVER!!!.
I can’t even begin to imagine what that young lady suffered, these evil people should be put to death for what they did and for ruining the lives of her loved ones who have to live with the horrific memories of what she suffered, BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY !!!
Hearing John slowly spiralling into depression and drugs is devo
👏👏👏
What happened to Case 55? I can't find it
Oh I saw this case so sad I Like your channel
If the phones at the train station werent vandalised Anita would have called her father Gary to pick her up she would have been.right .if she had gone on the later train she would have been right if the young brothers had been a bit quicker she'd would have been right .if just one thing had gone Anitas way she would have been right❤ i hope every day in prison was hell and still is hell every single day 😅
💔the cows care more about us than we do them💔🐮💔🐂💔🐄💔
1:26:58 Did that thing with the barbed wire and the plastic tube really happen?
Yes, it did. It is all written in a book.
@@MissBizarra Which book?
@@zekejones6976 The book is called "Remembering Anita Cobby: The Case, The Husband, The Aftermath - 30 Years On." You'll find the book available on eBay and/or Amazon. It was written by an Australian journalist who took upon her case in 1986, along with other journalists and detectives. There's one section in the book that he tells the event of a police detective, while on duty, the episodes that followed up to one of the rapists and killers of Anita. If I remember correctly, it was on the hearing of Michael Murphy, the eldest of the gang. He was in court for an appeal with his lawyer and the detective was present during the time. He noticed that the prisoner was standing all along and wouldn't sit down, despite being told to by the judge, but his lawyer said he was suffering from a medical condition and that he was unable to do so. Well, the detective later found out about his so-called medical condition. The officers from the jail, where Murphy was locked in, told him about the assault.
Love that quote about Murphy from the police officer. ‘The gashes on his face probably happened when I put my boot on his head when arresting him’. Touché!!

God of the Bible condones slavery rape pedos and insest. He hasn't shown up since we nailed him/his kid to a tree but demands constant coddling and praise. For not doing anything. He's "seen it wasn't good" several times and then smites and drowns his own creations rather than teach.
What the fuck kind of psychopath are you worshiping?

Animals
Didn't you listen to the judge?!
That is an insult to animals,no animal commits this type of crime, only human filth.
Nope! Only human beings are capable of this type of sadistic brutality. Animals have got nothing on us. You obviously haven’t been paying attention 🙄
@@enzed6498Just like I thought. I agree with you on that!!! Please don't insult the animal species!!!
Interesting to see older comments that express the same outrage that the people back then felt about the autopsy report being read on the radio. It was a brilliant move, though. It got her case national coverage and a level of attention it would never have garnered on its own. People do not care about women being attacked or killed. People witness it firsthand and often do nothing. Hear women screaming and pleading for help and can’t even be bothered to roll over in bed much less actually go out and intervene. The entire world is like this. It’s more than just the bystander effect. It’s more than just the western world and Abrahamic religious influence on certain societies. It’s a pervasive fucking problem the whole world has. People collectively have been raised to believe women are lesser beings and second class citizens for centuries. CENTURIES. Violence against women and honestly anything seen as too feminine is so commonplace it’s seen as normal. It’s literally seen as normal in almost every culture on earth, including many indigenous and more isolated cultures.
The reality is, her case NEVER would have gotten the spotlight it did without that radio broadcast reading the details of her autopsy. People heard her screaming, possibly saw her (and if it wasn’t her, it was ANOTHER woman that was being assaulted and kidnapped) being forced into a vehicle, and most ignored it, only one guy actually bothered to call police. There are millions of cases like this worldwide. Thousands of unsolved cases that never get mentioned even by CZcams podcasters like this that cover far more cases and lesser known ones than major media sources. She would have been yet another murdered woman if not for that radio stunt.
"I wish I could say that it is someone else's daughter...". ... WOW.
Read the book … It’s eye opening … gut wrenching … so clearly tragic … and how in the end the human spirit finds its way forward … A testimony of deep Love … Forgiveness … Acceptance … Rip beautiful Anita the girl with the stunning head of hair and heart a big as the sun itself … Shine on sweet girl 🙏🏻💖🌟

I agree with you on that. However, when we die, I am sure these psychopaths will be heading to Hell no matter if they've asked for forgiveness or not. I personally believe in God and that there is the Devil and all of his demons. As well as a heaven and a hell.

@@LeanneFowler-ms5xcgirl are you in for a universe of disappointment
Way too much on John Cobby.
I was thinking the same thing. Spoils it for me.
It's vitally important to convey to the world that a man can be so totally committed to his partner so as to become so devastated after a forced seperation. His grief is massively compounded since knuckle dragging apes in uniform hauled him in as a suspect. This is horrendous conduct. He would then have been turned inside out when he learnt of the hideous ordeal suffered by the beautiful woman he adored. Anita suffered through a living hell and her suffering ended. John will suffer in absolute agony until the day he dies. There is no proper remedy or cure for John. He has suffered a staggering loss, had insult added to injury, will have staggered on alone, overwhelmed, bewildered, broken inside & even if he goes on to age 100 he'll still hurt. Only those who have found what he found & lost what he lost can even hope to comprehend the bottomless depth of his grief. I disagree with you Greg. John's suffering must be made known so that some of us who have also suffered compararable misery might not feel so alone.
There is a viscious, depraved, uncaring, brutal element to the human race. Our gene pool is flawed. The idea that some tiny children grow up to become rapists, torturors & murderers should make the rest of us more wary & more careful. John would never have allowed such an attack on the woman he was devoted to. She strayed away from him, lost sight of the value of his protection, thought it safe to walk alone at night & was destroyed. She made mistakes, paid a terrible price but those she left behind will pay for the rest of their lives. People need to feel John's grief. Perhaps some might learn.
@@johnbrooks9523 Yes, but the video is entitled Anita Cobby not Anita and John Cobby! There was just too much reference to him when a minor portion of the video would suffice, in my view.
@@johnbrooks9523 I can’t believe your victim blaming. 😡
john brooks “She strayed away from him, lost sight of the value of his protection, thought it safe to walk alone at night & was destroyed. She made mistakes, paid a terrible price but those she left behind will pay for the rest of their lives” - what a ridiculous comment & a load of victim-blaming crap. She didn’t “stray away” from him & “lose sight of the value of his protection” - they had a brief separation to re-assess their relationship, which is hardly an unusual occurrence for a young couple.
Neither did she necessarily think it was “safe” to walk alone at night - it was a combination of factors that caused her to do so, ie the phones were broken so she couldn’t call her father to pick her up, & there were no taxis on the rank. From there she did a quick risk assessment & decided it should be safe to walk the 2 km through a suburban neighborhood to her home (a place she was very familiar with).
As it was, at least 2 to 3 people nearby heard the commotion & realized something had happened & immediately called the police & even went out looking for her (my point being that it was a well populated area & the men were actually quite brazen to kidnap her in that area at that relatively early time in the evening!).
It’s not as though she was hitchhiking across the country ffs. Hardly unreasonable for a woman to do what she did, & it’s not exactly practical for women to always have a male companion to escort them everywhere they go!
She was just incredibly unlucky, plain & simple. She didn’t make ANY mistake & is not to blame in any way for what happened to her (& the resulting pain it caused her loved ones). To suggest so is ludicrous & just adds insult to injury🤦♀️
I also highly doubt that John Cobby himself would agree with you!
I used to love dis podcast but to much bs I DNT wanna here 1 episode ever 6 months n rather listen to "this is monster"
Getting betrayed by your own family sucks. 😐
