  • DESCRIPTION
Blacktown is a suburb located in Western Sydney, 37 kilometres away from Sydney’s Central Business District. In the mid-1980’s, drugs, crime and high levels of unemployment were rife in the streets of Blacktown. But it was one particular night that changed everything…

The part that really got to me was the cows congregating around Anita in the field. I grew up working on dairy farms and cows are so curious and they know when something’s out of the ordinary. They were standing vigil next to that poor girl till someone found her.

We had a cattle farm years ago and I can tell you cows have the most gentle caring natures and will trust you with their calves if they know you. They would have understood Anita was in trouble and watched over her.

@@coreencasey5109 Yes, I miss working around them. Gentle, curious and intelligent, in their own way. There’d be 50 head going into the barn at milking time and they each had their own stanchion they’d go to every time.

@@coreencasey5109isn’t a lot of dairy produced by purposely keeping the cows pregnant almost their entire lives and removing everything calf she gives birth to from the mother cow, though? How could they trust dairy farmers or workers? I thought they moo in distress because they miss their calves.

@@Tsumami__🙏. Male calves are surplus. So they usually end up killed or kept for veal, still killed as a baby. So you are spot on. There’s a documentary “dairy is scary”. A lot of cruelty to these poor cows who live a short miserable life. Thank you for pointing out the fact, how can they trust the farmer? As he sends them to their deaths eventually. Cows are loving and trusting. It’s sad.

@@zekejones6976 The book is called "Remembering Anita Cobby: The Case, The Husband, The Aftermath - 30 Years On." You'll find the book available on eBay and/or Amazon. It was written by an Australian journalist who took upon her case in 1986, along with other journalists and detectives. There's one section in the book that he tells the event of a police detective, while on duty, the episodes that followed up to one of the rapists and killers of Anita. If I remember correctly, it was on the hearing of Michael Murphy, the eldest of the gang. He was in court for an appeal with his lawyer and the detective was present during the time. He noticed that the prisoner was standing all along and wouldn't sit down, despite being told to by the judge, but his lawyer said he was suffering from a medical condition and that he was unable to do so. Well, the detective later found out about his so-called medical condition. The officers from the jail, where Murphy was locked in, told him about the assault.

Interesting to see older comments that express the same outrage that the people back then felt about the autopsy report being read on the radio. It was a brilliant move, though. It got her case national coverage and a level of attention it would never have garnered on its own. People do not care about women being attacked or killed. People witness it firsthand and often do nothing. Hear women screaming and pleading for help and can’t even be bothered to roll over in bed much less actually go out and intervene. The entire world is like this. It’s more than just the bystander effect. It’s more than just the western world and Abrahamic religious influence on certain societies. It’s a pervasive fucking problem the whole world has. People collectively have been raised to believe women are lesser beings and second class citizens for centuries. CENTURIES. Violence against women and honestly anything seen as too feminine is so commonplace it’s seen as normal. It’s literally seen as normal in almost every culture on earth, including many indigenous and more isolated cultures.
The reality is, her case NEVER would have gotten the spotlight it did without that radio broadcast reading the details of her autopsy. People heard her screaming, possibly saw her (and if it wasn’t her, it was ANOTHER woman that was being assaulted and kidnapped) being forced into a vehicle, and most ignored it, only one guy actually bothered to call police. There are millions of cases like this worldwide. Thousands of unsolved cases that never get mentioned even by CZcams podcasters like this that cover far more cases and lesser known ones than major media sources. She would have been yet another murdered woman if not for that radio stunt.

It's vitally important to convey to the world that a man can be so totally committed to his partner so as to become so devastated after a forced seperation. His grief is massively compounded since knuckle dragging apes in uniform hauled him in as a suspect. This is horrendous conduct. He would then have been turned inside out when he learnt of the hideous ordeal suffered by the beautiful woman he adored. Anita suffered through a living hell and her suffering ended. John will suffer in absolute agony until the day he dies. There is no proper remedy or cure for John. He has suffered a staggering loss, had insult added to injury, will have staggered on alone, overwhelmed, bewildered, broken inside & even if he goes on to age 100 he'll still hurt. Only those who have found what he found & lost what he lost can even hope to comprehend the bottomless depth of his grief. I disagree with you Greg. John's suffering must be made known so that some of us who have also suffered compararable misery might not feel so alone.
There is a viscious, depraved, uncaring, brutal element to the human race. Our gene pool is flawed. The idea that some tiny children grow up to become rapists, torturors & murderers should make the rest of us more wary & more careful. John would never have allowed such an attack on the woman he was devoted to. She strayed away from him, lost sight of the value of his protection, thought it safe to walk alone at night & was destroyed. She made mistakes, paid a terrible price but those she left behind will pay for the rest of their lives. People need to feel John's grief. Perhaps some might learn.

john brooks “She strayed away from him, lost sight of the value of his protection, thought it safe to walk alone at night & was destroyed. She made mistakes, paid a terrible price but those she left behind will pay for the rest of their lives” - what a ridiculous comment & a load of victim-blaming crap. She didn’t “stray away” from him & “lose sight of the value of his protection” - they had a brief separation to re-assess their relationship, which is hardly an unusual occurrence for a young couple.
Neither did she necessarily think it was “safe” to walk alone at night - it was a combination of factors that caused her to do so, ie the phones were broken so she couldn’t call her father to pick her up, & there were no taxis on the rank. From there she did a quick risk assessment & decided it should be safe to walk the 2 km through a suburban neighborhood to her home (a place she was very familiar with).
As it was, at least 2 to 3 people nearby heard the commotion & realized something had happened & immediately called the police & even went out looking for her (my point being that it was a well populated area & the men were actually quite brazen to kidnap her in that area at that relatively early time in the evening!).
It’s not as though she was hitchhiking across the country ffs. Hardly unreasonable for a woman to do what she did, & it’s not exactly practical for women to always have a male companion to escort them everywhere they go!
She was just incredibly unlucky, plain & simple. She didn’t make ANY mistake & is not to blame in any way for what happened to her (& the resulting pain it caused her loved ones). To suggest so is ludicrous & just adds insult to injury🤦‍♀️
I also highly doubt that John Cobby himself would agree with you!
