  • Here is my review for the Sonicake Boom Avenue. This bass multi effects pedal runs for only $100 new and has four great effects: Preamp (SVT/Sansamp influenced), Fuzz (Russian Muff influenced), Octave (OC2 influenced), and a Boost/Comp. Watch the full review for my thoughts on this pedal and check out the link below for more info:

      Thanks! Definitely a solid bass package for $100, I think the octave is severely underrated on this pedal

    Man, that's all the effects that I would normally need for most of my gigs. Pretty neat little unit for sure. Super odd to have the octave at the end. When you first read the effects I was sure that was a mistake but nope!

      @MyBassistChris  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes definitely a practical multi-effects unit for bass. The octave at the end of the chain is not optimal, would at least like it to be before the fuzz.

      Good to know, man! I have both units coming along with the Demonfx Harmonic booster. I believe I'm in for some good tone that sounds convincing playing out.

    Useful review!! I heard that there are so many bassist use sansamp on playing. the particles of tone clear. easy to use. it's intuitive. especially I love fuzz sound!!

    Great demo and review, and I totally agree with your conclusions. I haven't tried this pedal yet, but from what I hear, I'd also rather have an octave above and not a second one below. And the compressor is a bit disappointing, it pumps very much. The preamp sounds great, and the fuzz as well, but I'd also prefer an overdrive. I got my first effects pedal around the same time as you, maybe a bit earlier. It was a Zoom 506. Was a nice toy, but the operation was very confusing, and it was hissing like crazy. Now, after I played without any effects for years, I'm considering getting something like the Boom, or maybe a Zoom B1Four or B3n.

    This is about $70 shipped. Should I go with it or get a Caline CP-60 DI Box for $33 shipped and get another cheap pedal to go along with it? Im looking mainly to use for recording in fl studio

    • @MyBassistChris
      @MyBassistChris  Před 2 lety +2

      If you really only need a DI/Preamp then I would just go for the wine cellar, it has more preamp options than this pedal. If you think you're going to use the octave, fuzz, and compressor though then the extra $40 is definitely worth it. These effects will cost you at least $50 alone each so unless you have them with FL Studio then I would get the Boom Ave. For reference when I record my Royal Blood covers I use the Boom Avenue over the wine cellar for the fuzz & compression.

    Hey I think that any bass pedal should include a built in chorus, and reverb. I would like to see a bass pedal with
    Boost/Compressor>Reverb>Chorus>Preamp>Octaver. But as it has an effects loop its ok.
    I found on mine that the octaver does a weird modulation effect (like this guy shows in his demo). When onlt Oct1 is selected it jumps between the lower octave to one octave higher and back. 5his is not what an octaver should do. Other than that this is a great pedal. I add a chorus and reverb in the effects loop.
    Bass>Comp>Preamp>Chorus>Reverb>Amp/Pa.

    When are you gonna demo that green Russian fuzz

    • @MyBassistChris
      @MyBassistChris  Před 2 lety

      Unfortunately I don't own a Green Russian Big Muff. The closest I have is the Way Huge Pork & Pickle which includes the Way Huge Russian Pickle circuit, but I may soon replace that on my pedalboard with the Zvex Mastotron.

      @MyBassistChris  Před 2 lety

      The pedal was sent to me by Sonicake, but they did not specify any requirements. I mention this at 0:37

    • @wolframheldmaier727

      @@MyBassistChris my English is not good. I maybe missed the info at 0:37. okay. Do you get money if I click on the sonicake button in your video? Anyway. The review seems not neutral. I tried gigging with this pedal but the effects have totally different volume. You can’t use them one after the other during gigging. This should be recognised by a competent reviewer. By the way this is also a problem with Tech 21 Bass fly rig. So Sonicake did not only steal and copy the idea and design from Tech 21 - shame on Sonicake - but also the inconvenience. :D

    • @MyBassistChris
      @MyBassistChris  Před 2 lety

      @@wolframheldmaier727 No money, the only compensation I got was the pedal itself. Everything I said in the video is how I felt. Fair I have not used the pedal for gigs, but for unbalanced sound levels you can adjust the fuzz & compressor levels to adjust to your clean level and it should work. For the octave you can lower your dry and wet signal as well to reduce the volume. No pedal goes without criticism though, I think the compressor is pretty bad on this pedal. Overall though it is a great value for $80 and easy to use.

    I had the effect pedal for four weeks and returned it. It is not worth the money. The octaver has the worst tracking I ever heard. Here he plays a short scale bass in upper frets. Please do it again with a normal bass and play the low c and a and g. The compressor is okaaaay. But he changes the volume massively. You cannot switch between compressor and no compressor. So it is useless for live and gigging. The Sonicake cannot replace for real effects. Save your money but don’t buy it. You should better buy a zoom B1 four which offers better sound quality.

    • @MyBassistChris
      @MyBassistChris  Před rokem

      Sorry it didn’t work out for you but I get this pedal isn’t for everyone. However I will say no octave pedal tracks great on bass below the low C. If you’re trying to emulate a 5 string with an octave pedal you can’t. Also the compressor isn’t great on this pedal I agree, but a good compressor will run you at least $150 so hard to complain considering you’re still getting 3 solid effects. The Zoom is a great option too, more versatile but less user friendly than this pedal. Hope you are enjoying the Zoom!

    • @wolframheldmaier727
      @wolframheldmaier727 Před rokem

      I totally agree with you. Cheap pedal means cheap sound. Buying cheap means buying two times. So better save money up and buy better quality. Better no compressor than a bad compressor.
