  • Gotta be real here. This stupid little multi effects pedal is RAD. And you know how I feel about multi effects pedals. Well, maybe you don't. Bottom line, I don't like multi effects pedals. I don't even really like bass effects pedals. So it's saying a lot when I say I LOVE this little pedal.

    The Sonicake pedals I’d like to see reviewed are:
    Multi-effects: Rock Stage because they claim it can make you sound like you’re playing through a Marshall Plexi with good sounding delay and chorus, and who on earth doesn’t want THAT?!? And the Twiggy Blues, because sounding like you’re plugged into a Dumble amp, Tube Screamer, and analog-sounding reverb and delay is something every guitar player should aspire to!!
    Finally: ALL of their mini stompboxes! Just because we need to hear them all, why else?! Ever since your reviews on mini stompboxes I’ve grown to love them! The right ones not only sound great, but they take up so little space and are so much lighter and easier to pack, carry, and they allow me to have more room on the stage. But the best part is, when the wasted on alcohol barflies decided to jump up on stage, they’re so small that the lushes usually can’t find them to step on them! 😂

    • @GunsandGuitars
      @GunsandGuitars  Před 4 lety +3

      Yeah I think I will still use my specra comp since it handles all styles with grace, but in a pinch I think I would just shut off the comp when slapping and still use it for fingers or picking because for those it really sounded good.

    Yeah the compression did seem to leave more to be desired on the pedal. But other than that I'm sold, definitely picking one up for the holidays. I've been running the same SansAmp in my kit for about 5 years now, and my old DigiTech anniversary whammy octave broke/stopped working. Currently using a Fender ‘65 Reverb pedal, but planning on using a HOF mini in the future. They don’t want amps because of the small size, so hoping this will cut my stuff carried to minimum. I think the issue is the chain. If preamp goes into fuzz, sounds terrible. If it's inverted, gives another taste because the input is not saturated.
    Octave as layed on the pedal is really used by bass players, is a thing since Boss OC2, used for a thicc sounds. Oct2 is more for sub.
    A big, big issue is (by my standard and experience) the chain. Octave at the end is really bad. Ideally should be Comp-Octave-Fuzz-Preamp, or even delete fuzz and change for a chorus, at the end of the chain.

    Hey I think that any bass pedal should include a built in chorus, and reverb. I would like to see a bass pedal with
    Boost/Compressor>Reverb>Chorus>Preamp>Octaver. But as it has an effects loop its ok.
    I found on mine that the octaver does a weird modulation effect (like this guy shows in his demo). When onlt Oct1 is selected it jumps between the lower octave to one octave higher and back. 5his is not what an octaver should do. Other than that this is a great pedal. I add a chorus and reverb in the effects loop.
    Bass>Comp>Preamp>Chorus>Reverb>Amp/Pa.

    Should have done a back to back on the compressor slap thing.
    I thought it sounded AOK but I don't play slap bass so what do I know?
    BTW, you're a fine guitar player but you totally kill on bass!
    If I was half my age I'd be tracking you down to start a band :)
    aaaaaaaaaaand, hope you have a peaceful Christmas and a blessed prosperous New Year.

    Dan, have to say. You're saving me a lot of bucks and heartache to figure out what cheap clone pedals to stock. For a lil country (NZ) with no direct amazon route, I can be their Amazon 😍 lol.
    I used to just stock Rowin but really the donner and sonicake multis (and let's face it they aren't a zoom 505, we can unhate multis now) are a good future plan right there.

    • @GunsandGuitars
      @GunsandGuitars  Před 4 lety

      I hate multi’s still, but I like Sonicake’s take on it. Only 4 effects with 4 foot switches. No paging through hundreds of effects, blending them together, programming banks, etc. too hard to tweak that stuff on the fly. I like to be able to bend down and tweak a knob a tad to make a small adjustment. That’s all.

    • @valvenator
      @valvenator Před 4 lety

      I won't say I hate multis but I do hate dealing with them and trying to dial in my sound is a total pain.
      But, you mention the Zoom 505. I have a 506 for bass. One thing I have to give it a plus for is the octave generator.
      You can play full chords through this unit, guitar, bass, even CD's and such and it picks the lowest note and harmonizes a perfect octave down.
      No glitches that I could hear. I would love to have that as a separate pedal. None of my more expensive pedals could pull that off.

    I'm not actually in love with my sansamp... It's entirely possible I need to fool with it more but I spent half a practice session trying to fix sound problems I didn't have coming straight off my bassman... I may try this one. But the thing is- having compression 4 stage eq line out pre/post XLR out etc on my amp... Kinda makes it not worth it for me

    I bought this after I saw your video. I agree, there are some minor issues with this pedal, especially when I match it against other pedals. The Pre-Amp is great for my silvertone and bassman because these amps do not have a mid level. This helps give these amps a bit more adjustment, when dialing the mid down and up. I do like the octave settings.
    Overall - I only paid under $70.00 for this pedal and I will use it for my practice travel gear. I still have not matched this against my sans-amp pedal yet. I will have to tryout some of their other pieces, I just wish the guitar pedals had an XLR out as well....might need to break out the drill and soldering iron for those????

      I didn’t have much luck with the preamp on or off using the compressor for slap. But the compressor really complimented the preamp for fingers and picking.

    As a touring/recording musician in a wheelchair for almost 40 yrs, continue to learn from others and constantly look for equipment that makes my stage and studio time run smoothly... you seem to have pointed into the direction of a good tool. Do you know if they ship to Canada? I presently use a GT-1B multi-effect from Boss, but wanted something straight forward. I think how this one is built, the Sonicake could be strapped to the front of my chair on the frame beside my knee so I can operate it with my hand, by use of a wireless.

    I don't want to blow it up, but don't have room for another amp (bass amp for example).
