What other inexpensive yet awesome pedals am I missing out on?🤔
The Joyo California pedal has sound great sounds
I think they're discontinued now but Zoom B2 pedals are pretty rad
Dude, try out the Sonicake Boom Ave from Amazon. I love mine. Replaces a Sansamp, plus an Octive, comp and distortion! All in one.
Tc electronic honey pot fuzz and rusty fuzz
@@CiaranWard nah I have the b2 and the bdi21 in my signal chain beside e/o atm and they are both getting replaced with a EH Battalion
Man I really thought that said "BASS BOI" at first
It should say that.
The BD1-21 BASS BOI EDITION
I read your comment as "Bass BQ" (as in BBQ) 😂
LOL!
@@patrickhunter Hello guys, i need help, is the power supply polatiry center-negative or center-positive also can i use a 9v 1A power supply?
Hey dude, as a bass player whom wns one of the original runs of the sans amp, thank you for doing these videos. People that are just getting into the field need decent equipment so they can sound like how they're trying to, without breaking the bank. I really do appreciate the education you give to these younger cats that are coming in and trying to master this beautiful instrument known as the bass.
He played a 53 dollar modified p bass through a behringer and he still sounds good.
What model/brand is it?
@@rrrafiel There is no name on the headstock.

@@bassistdc Maybe for the first clip...second clip is a $2,000 Sterling LOL.
I've had this pedal for about 4 years and think its holding up Just fine. I also have the sansamp. I can't hear a whole lot of difference when I compare them. Great pedal for an awesome price
Thanks.👍🎸
So impressive how much the quality of gear has improved over the past few years. Oh and that Sterling sounds and looks bad ass
I’ve owned one of these since 2007. Still works and sounds amazing.
It’s weird because you cranked the drive on the Behringer and it sounded okay. I have a Sansamp V2 and when you crank the drive it sounds like trash.
had mine for a couple of years now, still one of the most used pedals I own! didnt even pay £25 for mine brand new. amazed on how well it sounds and performs for such a cheaper pedal. I would love a sansamp but for now I'm happy use this works just as well.
Yeah! I just ordered it two days ago. I'm very happy that you talk about it well.
Now I'm 100% sure that I made the right decision. :D
This is a GREAT pedal!!! I got one for $20 as a DI and was blown away!
I got one of those for my birthday, wife thought it would be a good thing to have and she wasn't wrong. After 8 years of continuous use on live gigs it died 2 months ago and immediately went online and bought another. So yes the plastic enclosure and switch can take a beating.
I've had one of these for a long time. I'll never get rid of it.
I used this pedal for years and always got complimented on my tone and quality of the signal. I eventually upgraded to a Sansamp and more recently, I only use my Darkglass AO900 amp.
*cries in Sansamp*
😂
these are pretty much a must have for a bassist on a budget in my mind. Even if you don't always use it, throw it in your gig bag and you have a super cheap backup option in case your main option craps out on you, and it can run on battery...
Bought this baby a few months ago and no regrets so far. Love the tube sound that it gives!
Tuba sound!!!!!!! Please , what setting gives you that?????
I thought this pedals just for fun a few years ago. I was surprised how good it sounds for the price. I gave it to my bassist to give his tone a bit a more Ampeg character. Since then we use it on our shows.
Pretty cool demo, Patrick. I’ve never tried behringer pedals before, but I have heard how they sound and this one’s not too bad.
I was about to order a DI box for bass to go through an All-In-One Streaming/Live/IEM rig i'm buildnig for this band.... This little review just pushed me over the edge and i've ordered two - one as a spare...just in case that chassis fails on me - Great Video - Thanks a million.
I’ve had this Pedal for 3 years still going strong
I've owned the 3 channel programmable SansAmp for several years now and had the version 1 before that, I think you are correct that at lower gains it sounds very similar but in higher gains it definitely does not sound like the SansAmp. I pretty much steer clear of Behringer bass gear anyway, I've had a couple of their bass devices and they've sounded great but just didn't last very long due to build quality. Now when it come to analog synths they rock! I have the Neutron semi-modular synth and it is very well built and sounds freaking amazing! I have been using it on live gigs as a bass synth for over a year now with no issues. Can't say that for the Behringer bass devices I've owned.
I've had mine since 2005, and with fairly regular use it's held up just fine. I have played through the sansamp version and other really nice preamps that cost much more over the years. While they all offered more features for dialing in, at $30 the Behringer is a steal. It sounds great. It's super simple, compact, and inexpensive. What's not to like?
I love my BDI21 Great pedal all the different tones. Combined with my active 5 string bass I get great tone shaping. I have even put it after other effects pedals which gives a different tone or boost to them too.
Even the ADI21 Acoustic Preamp DI for acoustic guitar and other acoustic instruments, (copy of the Sansamp Para Di), is a great tool foe bass that gives nice tone shaping. The preset in the manual for bass give a thick bass tone that sounds nice for electric bass too.
While reading around on some bass sites, I found a very informative thread on the Behringer Bass V Amp Pro. I bought one (rack mount) and fiddled with it.
The biggest thing I found is that this Modler/Effects processor has so much that its really a mind bender to use everything, so I just used it for my bass amp!
I have 1 V Amp Pro, 1 AB systems power amp, and a 10" Speaker and a 15" speaker! Best Bi Amp bass amp ever!!!! Kinda like a extra large (you probably won't know this amp) Versatone!!
So Far, so good!
Hey pal, from that tone to boring clear sound, that chepo clone sounds amazing!
I have such pedal for 6 years. It's a very close copy of original sansamp and allows to get fantastic sound even if your bass is plugged into a simple mixer
Use it at my home studio. Not throwing my gear around - pedals, amps anyway. Great review az usual, thank you.
I use the tech 21 sansamp RBI for recording in my home studio, I love the sound of that beast. but for live and rehearsals i use the behringer bdi21. The sound is not quite the same but for live its good enough. As for the build quality, i play in a punk band and the bdi21 has been jumped on by my singer with his size 12s repeatedly and been chucked in gig bags surviving for several years with only a few surface scratches to show for it. The thing i like about the behringer pedal is if it does break or get stolen i really don't care as its incredibly cheap to replace. Oh and for any guitarists the behringer to800, its almost identical to a tube screamer.
I've been thinking about buying a Sansamp. I kind of like the features the real deal V2 has, and also the likely better durability.
I've had a BDI21 for 12? years now. I love the sound of it though it stays at home now. Thinking of a DIY project to put it in a rack enclosure.
I agree on the drive, it sounds crappy when cranked. The blend knob stays on the tube amp side. I don't really like the transistor amp modeling. But the tube side gives a really good, fat, sometimes creamy tone.
Ive read that the DI output is on the low side (qualified that the same was true of the sansamp) and I would probably agree. Some inexperienced sound guys have had a hard time finding my signal.
I have never played through a sansamp anything.
You should make a video using the Behringer as a clean preamp, with an overdrive pedal on the chain.
I think Behringer provides amazing stuff for people that don't have much to spend, yet give you good results. I use a Behringer interface and it delivers.
Been playing one for 3 years now.. good bang for the buck
I had the BDI21. I know a lot of people will hate me but it wasn't bad in my opinion: the clean sound from the XLR output was pretty good. for about 30 € for an active DI box you can't ask for more
Cool to see you demoing it on a Sterling Ray34. That's the same bass I rock, same finish as well just with red tint. Thing rules
cool Demo! can I use this pedal for an upright bass? thank you
Nice review, as always. I have a question: How would you compare this to the Sonicake Boom Ave? I mean, that is budget territoire, i know, but you've said that both sound good enough. What do you think?
Great clip Patrick, what are your thoughts of this BDI21 vs the Joyo American. I am looking for a low mid - boost drive ( nothing too Fuzz Driven as I have a EQD CLoven Hoof for Fuzz ), be interested to hear your thoughts on these two, thx and Happy 4th !
Zoom B3 . I would like to see your take on this one . I use live without the amp sims and just as pedals (99 of them) . some are useless but most , I find are pretty good representations of the real thing ! And can probably find used for under the $80 range , which is far less expensive than a Boss tuner !
I know two major band who plays festivals stages(+30k) with it. Just take backup on the road. It's cheap and in mix sound really good. Nobody give a fuck that's 30$
Who are the bands and bass players?
Having a backup definitely ain't too bad given that you'd have to go through more than 6 of them to equal the price of one Sansamp Bass Driver ($220 vs $210 for six BDI 21s at the Sweetwater price of $35 new).
Alex Lifeson uses Behringer products 👍🏻
I use it for my church gigging and my recording. The switch isn't a problem for me. I think it's an 'always on' pedal for most people. Would the switch last as many stomps as a roland pedal if it weren't always on?...maybe not
Hey Patrick, how did you record it? It's the DI signal? Does it have a cab sim, like the Sansamp? Thanks!
Patrick I think this really sounds great.. and I like the price.. I never use a amp .. I use a line 6 bass pod .. directly to the PA ..
I've done the mid pot mod to this (it's quite easy) and it now is the best sounding overdrive pedal I've ever had for 25 USD
Got a link to a guide for that?

It’s high time you get your own branded and sponsored pick (plectrum). You’ve earned it. Respect.
this is a great little pedal.
Is that the pos p bass you got off the Amazon?
Very useful video!!!Will you tell me about your connections to the output please? Greetings from Greece!!!
Have you run it through an amp to see how it sounds?
Hi, What do you think if I use BDI-21 and Beq700 behringher (graphic equal.) ? It's an useless solution or can i have more drive ?
Thanks..
Great channel !!
Hey Patrick! Can you make a low cost pedalboard? Thanks!!
It's a great pedal I used one for about 2 years on my 300 watt solid state amp and always kept it on
It wasn't until I used it on my 400 watt Peavey classic valve amp it sounded kind of dull and had great difficulty getting a good tone maybe I'm just fussy but it's a good preamp pedal worth the money
I have BDI-21 for quite some time now and it's a kind of on/off relationship. While it sounds descent I never get it to "sit right" with my basses, other pedals and the whole mix in my band. The SansAmp emulation in my Zoom MS60-B does a better job.
It's the mid scoop that ruins everything, there's a huge drop around 800hz
Gracias por compartir. Una pregunta. ¿Sabes qué pasa si conecto dos amps en la dos salidas? ¿Suenan las dos a l mismo tiempo?
I have a AMPEG amp I like using and I go direct out to PA from the amp I use a compressor pedal in front of amp too. How would I utilize this pedal to maybe improve my sound??
had one of these, swapped it out for the MXR DI bc I just liked the sound better and I didn't like the lack of a mid eq controller. but super faithful to the sansamp sound and if that's what you're going for this is a super cheap alt
the chasis construction may not be an issue. It seems to be an "always on" pedal.
Proud owner of one of these they certainly pack a punch!
Count me in as well! It also works well with my BOD400 and BUF300!!!
@@juancarlosjasa7047 funny enough I have since ordered another one that actually just arrived 😂😂
everything i have purchased of behringer has been excellent sounding and up to date on tech....isnt that the cheap bass you enhanced at some point?..sounding pretty good...great vid
I just bought an NR300 for 15€ including shipping, and it works very well. Now I'm hearing this pedal. What's going on? Did hell freeze over and I missed it?
Does bass knob do anything? It seemed more like an on off switch.
I think the circuit is, if not identical, varies by only a single IC. So how do the pots and switches compare for quality. It's not just the click, but the actual quality. Will it last being stomped on thousands of times?
Im just getting into bass and was looking for a cheap setup until I get good enough to justify better gear.
I just ordered this pedal and plan on plugging into the headrush fr108.
I have helix native, but it's nice to get away from computers.
Great vid, I'm a relative newbie thinking of buying this but I have a quick question if anyone could help please? If I plug my bass into this, what sort of lead do I need to use to plug this into my amp? (I'm using a peavey tnt115 bw amp if that affects anything) could I just use a spare amp lead I have or do I need something particular? Sorry for the really stupid question, I'm still learning the tech side of things. Thanks!
Patrick- May I suggest a review of a cheapish bass pedal? The Caline "Wine Cellar" Driver +DI for bass. IMO it is far superior to the BDi. I am using it for drive & a DI on all small gigs and also using it for my High Side when I bi-amp on larger gigs. Under 50$ USD! Thanks
Thanks For this review,I've been wanting a sans amp for a while but really couldn't justify paying the 200 dollars on one, this is a nice cheap alternative
Well I think it's worth considering the price point, you can still use it as a DI even though you don't use it as a fx pedal for live gigs.
hi ..should i put this preamp in the beginning or in the end of the chain? thank you
Please review the Nux Melvin Lee Davis signature preamp as well.
would this work like a di box for recording into a maschine mk3
I have one. I love it.
Can u review NUX melvine lee davis signature please? It has some interesting feature, it has IR loader.
An expensive one that I think could really work well for bass is the seymour duncan Palladium...that would be awesome if you could get your hands on one!
Cheers Man I really like your channel!
For me, I would go in for 280-or-so dollars and use the SansAmp as my main and this plastic box as a backup. Win-win. It does sound pretty good.
Sounds like your getting Geddy Tone on yours...i bought one....but i cant see where your putting your settings for his tone could you post the settings please.
Great video as per man. Love you're still using the blue P. I've owned 3 sansamps now. Every preamp I buy, I always end up going back! P.S. You've inspired me to start doing my own bass videos, I'd really appreciate your feedback!
👆this…
What have you been using instead of sansamp?
Can we get some distortion sound out of it ? Sorry If I sound stupid , am new to bass.
wait, I thought that high-gain sound was actually pretty sick! I typically don't play with that much gain but I actually liked it quite a bit
Isn't it an equalizer with knobs instead of sliders?
for anyone considering buying, this pedal is great and i’ve been using it for 2 years and it gives you a really rich sound. once you use it, your bass tone will sound so empty without it.
Dude I got one which I used for 8 years and died 2 months ago, went online and bought another. First one cost me £22, this one £27 best investment ever!!
sounds more like a sansamp with a couple of small mods (couple of resistors and wire jumpers) - not for the faint hearted though - Ive wiped out two as my micro-soldering skills were pretty much zero.
cool pedal if you like no mids and fizzy distortion
Does anybody know what is the bass frequency? 30, 40, 50Hz?
Out of the box it probably sounds great. As for longevity I doubt it would hold up to a Sans Am? If you look inside good made equipment the pots are larger than the Chinese made stuff and the smaller pots get scratchy and dirty sounding fairly fast. Believe it or not most internal components of a good brand name piece of equipment use Panasonic parts. There only a few companies that make these internal parts. The processing chip is somewhat different. Just my opinion. As a closing note I have used several pieces of Behringer equipment and it always sounded great. So there you have that too.
ther is also one for guitar the blue one ,, and they both come in rack version at 100$ , well the guitar rack is discontinued , and i have one of each i use it to record play throw video ,, plug with the xlr in mixer board,, and the backing track in the mixer , and straight to the camera input , sound good enof ,,
Ive used this into a harbinger pa into a 412 for 2 years playing shows. Setup never broke once and everyone was like " sick tone wat you runnin?"
I'm not super tech savvy. Can I go through this into an enclosure? Is this basically aittle bass head?
I’m buying one new in the box today for $15.00. I use to have a Sansamp BDDI and Kind of miss it, maybe this will do.
The MOJOMOJO by Tc electronic is cheap and descent. I have a dg b3k v1 and a rodenberg 808B for my overdriven sound but I bought a used mojomojo for 26 euros too for some different sounds and it's great.
Great videos P. keep up!
Here in Brazil, music gear is VERY expensive, the taxes are huge. The Behringer was the obvious choice for me. I have one of those for 8 years now and it's working great. I also have the wah-wah Hellbabe, for the same 8 years, and it works great too.
Então Jonas.. eu usei bem lá no comecinho da minha vida de músico o azul pra guitarra...ainda tenho ele aqui.. me quebrou altos galhos... o BDI então ainda é uma boa opção? Me indicaram ele agora que eu tô voltando a tocar baixo e eu to vendo alguns vídeos pra conhecer mais.
I had one. I bought it in 2008 or 2009 and it finally died in 2019. Then I got another one just like it.
recently got that pedal and its noisy af when i turn the gain up. at some point of cranking the blend and drive knobs the hum is just too much. anyone else has that experience?
dbi 21 vs bod400? might bod better?
I am not fan of Behringer amps, etc, but their pedals are KILLER. Great dollar for dollar value.
I'm i guitar player since early 90's and started playing bass recently. Being new to bass world I was looking for a cheap pre amp pedal to plug my bass direct to mixer in studio (we have 1800w rms on the mixer using 7 different speakers from active to passive, from 10 inch to 2x15 inch and from usa Makie to old school passive Community usa speakers).
Also, for a live setup, I'm planning on using two 15 inch big cab monitors with a P.A. Amp and a 2x15 band EQ!
That being said, this video really help me decide to really go for this pedal.
As from it's durability because of the plastic Housing and switch, it's actually not a real problem for me because i I'll always leave it on all the time. It's basically my main pre amp and I've done my sound on it and that's it! The only thing i will actually change is hat i have my gain set to minimum to play in rock cover band, and I set it to 9 o'clock to play in a metal band.
Been using this pedal for the last 2 months and I'm very happy with it. It sounds great with my Frankenstein rig setup haha 😂 . I bought it used and i also bought a used Boss Bass Chorus and Sans Amp bass compressor for a good price. Most of my guy tar pedals work well on bass except for the wah obviously, and the Decimator that's not needed. Delay i don't need also but Volume Boost, Bad Monkey overdrive and Zack Wyld phaser work great with bass.
Hi. I own both Sans AMP and Behringer.
In Clean structure as Studio or Play in a DAW its same Same.
BUT, Live the Behringer loose a lot of Output an Power & the DI is mad....
BUT for the Money its phantastic.
Also as a spare parts.
Came for the pedal review. Stayed for the playing. Good stuff man.
Injust bought this pedal a few days ago, although I haven't used the Sansamp, I do however have the MXR M80. Haven't compared the 2 yet, but I will. The Behringer does have a nice signal boost that equalizes pretty easily. I think it is well worth the $36.00 I paid for it.
does the mxr m80 and behringer sound good together?
@@_Majoras I use the MXR at the studio and live, I use the Behringer at home. But I will try it sometime.
