    I read a great many comments about the "cheap plastic Behringer boxes" yet I have never read of anyone actually breaking one. I have used two Behringers for 20 years or more; tuner and bass chorus. Both used 3 to 6 shows every week for a couple of decades. No breakage, ever.

    I love mine. Paid £17 for it about 4/5 years ago and it’s never let me down. From the studio, to big stages. I love it when people compliment my tone, and they’re amazed at how little it cost.
    I completely get though that going from a SansAmp to one of these is a massive jump with let down points. But, like you say, it’s exceptional value for money for the cheap price!

    I wasn’t sure if I wanted to plop down the gheetus for a Sansamp. I thought this pedal is inexpensive enough to test out, so I bought one. Really enjoyed the sound of it. Nice tones I was looking for, I just wish it had a midrange control. I liked it well enough to purchase a Sansamp v2. A good tip is to add a touch of white paint or glow-in-the-dark paint to the little divots in the knobs so you can see where they are set easier. I’d definitely recommend one. It’s a good pedal.

    Honestly, the first time I saw my BDi21 I thought the same thing: "as soon as it would break, i will house it in an other case". But it is still in good conditions... And I'm 75kg often wearing skate's shoes, but sometimes wears boots.

    Hi Johnny! Thank you for all the good content you make. I have one question. I never had a preamp and never used it. I only use passive basses and I recently bought a POD GO. My signal chain is: bass>compressor pedal>POD GO + Tc Electronic Sub n Up into the fx loop. Since the pod go is limited to only 4 blocks, with the fx loop I am able to use 5 fx instead of 4. The sansamp in the pod go I like it for having a clean slighty dirt tone (like a Justin Chancellor one), but for the really dirt I prefer the Obsidian one. I don't like the obsidian before the sub n up and since the pod go i limited compared to the HX stomp I ask you. Would it make sense buy a sansmap and use it after my compressor pedal using the obsidian as only distortion or it would be better buy a Darkglass and put it after my sub n up into the Fxloop using the sansamp in the Podgo? I don't use D.I., I use the pod go as Audio Interface as well. Hope I have been clear. Thank you so much.

    I've repaired pedals for people and have retrofitted quality pots and stomp switches from more expensive equipment to "favourite" cheaper examples. Perhaps the guts of the BDI21can be used as the basis for a really cool DIY project. Fitting it into a more sturdy customised housing with more robust potentiometers and foot switch.

    I have the version 1 of the original Sansamp that has been with me and has played thousands of shows with me since 1998.
    I picked one of these Behringers up just to see if it was a dead on copy. Pretty much is but plastic and doesn't have the parallel output. It doesn't sound exactly the same but close enough that I don't know how they're not in court for copying Tech21.
    It's what I have to leave at my practice place so I don't have to leave my Sansamp.

    • @JonnyDibble
      @JonnyDibble  Před 4 měsíci

      Hi! Afraid not. Amps have two sections, a preamp and a power amp. The power amp is what powers the cab and preamp pedals are essentially the EQ controls of an amp, without the power amp section to power a cab. You can by separate power amps, check out the Ashdown Ant or Seymour Duncan power stage. Hope this helps!

    I've had a BDI21 for almost a decade. Not a single issue with it (as has been the case with all the Behringer stuff I have bought over the past 15 years). I had a Sansamp for about 2-3 months and got rid of it. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't better than the BDI21 for 5x the cost.

    Behringer make their money as follows:
    1. They make clones. (This is a clone of the Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI.) Most circuits can't be patented so as they copy they don't have to spend money on R&D.
    2. Behringer has a giant factory in China which means that they get parts easily (and without transport costs). They also have a highly skilled workforce and low labour costs.
    3. Behringer is a giant company, but it is part of a larger conglomerate that means it has extensive buying power as well.

    Often times with inexpensive DI boxes, you get great clarity and grit but you lose a lot of the bottom end of the signal. Not sure I can really tell using my headphones or by monitors while listening to a youtube video. Fellow bassists, how does the bottom end of this pedal compare to a much more expensive box (or DI from a head)? Thanks!
